Owing to the recent increase in the frequency of explosion accidents, blast resistive design has garnered attention to reduce the damage of important structural elements. However, domestic research on the blast resistive structures is still insufficient, and domestic design guideline against blast loads are not documented yet. In this study, a numerical study on the RC blast resistive walls, where the test variable was the presence of FRP sheet, was performed using LS-DYNA program. Based on the numerical results, displacement-time hysteretic curve, pressure-impulse diagram, and fragility curve of the test specimens were derived. It was shown that the FRP sheet strengthening method is efficient to improve the blast resistive performance of the RC wall. Also, the strengthening effect of FRP sheet on the RC wall was stronger when the magnitude of the blast load was greater.
A design factor analysis was conducted to reduce the thrust reduction in the off-design, due to the driving of the aerospike pintle nozzle. The close (NPR 100) as well as the open (NPR 11) stroke were fixed, as under-expansion conditions. The pintle contour, pintle head radius (R), cowl angle (θ), and cowl exit length (L) were selected as design factors. The change in thrust was analyzed, using a verified numerical analysis technique. First, the pintle head radius and the length of the cowl exit had little influence on the thrust. The cowl angle changed the mass flow rate by affecting the effective nozzle throat area, and created a reverse pressure gradient at the cowl exit. As a result of applying the dual aerospike contour, it was confirmed that the thrust in the design-off increased by approximately 1.2%, compared to the reference case and by approximately 3.4% compared to the worst case.
To review the appropriateness of current regulations on the simple explosive storage facility, the effects of internal explosion on the structural stability of the standard storage facility were analyzed by means of both FEM analyses and field experiments. As a result, it was found that the explosion-proof performance of the existing storage structure was not sufficient for 15 kg of emulsion-type explosive. Thus, an alternative method of splitting explosives was tested by conducting sympathetic detonation experiments. This method worked properly as expected, and the proper amount of splitted explosive was determined according to the test results. In addition, a storage structure with open ceiling was found to be very effective because explosion pressure was released so rapidly that the damage of the facility could be reduced significantly. Hence, such a structural pattern was proposed as a new design scheme for simple explosive storage facility.

The engineering industry heavily relies on fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum to generate energy through combustion. However, this process emits carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, leading to global warming. To mitigate this issue, researchers have explored various methods to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, one of which is carbon dioxide underground storage technology. This innovative technology involves capturing carbon dioxide from industrial plants and injecting it into the saturated ground layer beneath the earth's surface, storing it securely underground. Despite its potential benefits, carbon dioxide underground storage efficiency needs improvement to optimize storage in a limited space. To address this challenge, our research team has focused on improving storage efficiency by utilizing surfactants. Furthermore, we evaluated how different carbon dioxide states, including gaseous, liquid, and supercritical, impact storage efficiency based on their respective pressures and temperatures within the underground reservoir. Our findings indicate that using surfactants and optimizing the injection rate can effectively enhance storage efficiency across all carbon dioxide states. This research will pave the way for more efficient carbon dioxide underground storage, contributing to mitigating the environmental impact of fossil fuels on the planet.
Purpose and Method: Crowed Events can lead to sudden accidents caused by unpredictable variables. Therefore, focusing on the '10.29 Itaewon accident' among the representative cases, we examined the accident as the process of occurrence. In addition, improvement measures were suggested through analysis of related legal systems. Result: In the Itaewon accident, a "colony wave phenomenon" occurred due to "ultra-high-density cluster stay". In addition, cluster destruction occurred from a weak location in the cluster due to clusters and pressures in different directions to avoid this. Looking at the laws related to the safety management of Crowed Events, the laws and regulations differ depending on the location and type. Due to the complementary nature of the approach to the legal blind spot, the legal system that uses similar terms of the same concept and is not systematic is causing uncertainty in the application and interpretation of the law. Conclusion: Crowd control and on-site management should be carried out for events when the cluster density is expected to reach 8 people/m2 or reached. Consistency should be maintained through the unified application of legislation to related legislation.
The pipping system is widely used in many industries as equipment for transporting fluids over long distances. In high-pressure pipe, as the speed of the fluid increases, a loud noise is generated. Therefore, various studies have been conducted to reduce pipe noise. In this paper, a pipe noise analysis was developed to predict and quantitatively assess the flow-induced vibration and acoustic-induced vibration due to valve flow in high-temperature and high-pressure. To do this, a high-fidelity fluid analysis technique was developed for predicting internal flow in the pipe with valve. In additional, the contribution of compressible/incompressible pressure by frequency band was evaluated using the wavenumber-frequency analysis. To predict a low/middle frequency pipe noise, the vibroacoustic analysis method was developed based on Finite Element Method (FEM). And the pipe noise prediction method for the middle/high frequency was developed based on Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA).
This paper evaluates major issues of Post-Kyoto negotiation of UNFCCC and conducted economic analysis by utilizing a computable general equilibrium(CGE) model(GTEM-KOR). It points three major agendas of the negotiation to be settled : (1) return of the US to GHG abatement commitment; (2) participation of developing countries in GHG abatement commitment; and (3) development of a comprehensive approach for post-Kyoto period. It also emphasizes the differentiation of developing countries and the type and strength of commitment as the negotiation issues for settlement of those agendas. The analysis by using GTEM-KOR shows the differentiation between developing countries based on per capita GDP and/or per capita emissions is inefficient in terms of global GHG emission reduction and it will exposure Korea to strong pressure of commitment relative to other developing countries. It also shows that the participation of developing countries such as China and India is one of the most important factors for the environmental effectiveness of the Post-Kyoto regime. It emphasizes that the relative strength of commitment and the scope of country participation rather than type of commitment are major components determining the economic and environmental effectiveness of the Post-Kyoto regime.
This study aims to improve the flow and noise performances of an axial-flow fan for cooling the machine room in a refrigerator by using airfoil-cascade analysis and surface ridge shape. First, the experimental evaluations using a fan performance tester and an anechoic chamber are performed to analyze the flow and noise performances of the existing fan system. Then, the corresponding flow and noise performances are numerically assessed using the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) techniques and the Ffowcs-Williams and Hawkings (FW-H) equation, and the validity of numerical results are confirmed through their comparisons with the experimental results. The analysis for the flow of a cascade of airfoils constructed from the existing fan blades is performed, and the pitch angles for the maximum lift-to-drag ratio are determined. The improved flow performance of the new fan applied with the optimum pitch angles is confirmed. Then, the fan blades with surface ridges on their pressure sides are devised, and the reduction of aerodynamic noise of the ridged fan is numerically confirmed. Finally, the prototype of the final fan model is manufactured, and improvements in the flow and noise performances of the prototype are experimentally confirmed.
Brake squeal noise has been a challenging problems for a long time. It is very annoying to passengers and residents near tracks. Two methods have been applied to reduce or eliminate brake squeal noise. One is to improve frictional materials; the other is to optimize the topology and structures of brake pads. In this study, we developed two kinds of brake pads; one is a pad whose frictional material is different from the KTX brake pad friction material; the other is a flexible pad that has the same frictional material as that of the KTX brake pad, but a different structure. Squeal noise and friction coefficients were measured and analyzed using a full-scale brake dynamometer. It was found that the dynamometer test can simulate the squeal noise of KTX trains at stations. The squeal frequency of the KTX at 4500Hz was exactly reproduced; this value of 4500Hz was one of the natural frequencies of the KTX brake disc. It was also found that the squeal noise depended on the caliper pressure, initial disc temperature and braking speed. The average friction coefficient was 0.35~0.45. The new pad lowered the squeal noise by 17.3~21.6dB(A).
