  • Recently, various after-treatment systems, such as LP-EGR(Low Pressure-Exhaust Gas Recirculation), SCR(Selective Catalytic Reduction) and LNT(Lean NOx Trap), were developed to obey the stringent emission regulations of diesel engine. There are many researches on LP-EGR system because it has advantages of NOx reduction and low fuel consumption. But, condensation water is generated in internal of intercooler tube and it contains various types of anion that cause the corrosion of aluminium tube. In this study, it is examined that the condensation water effects on corrosion of aluminium tube. And method for improvement of corrosion characteristics is investigated using the dipping and electrochemical test.

Axial Crush and Energy Absorption Characteristics of Aluminum/GFRP Hybird Square Tubes (알루미늄/GFRP 혼성 사각튜브의 정적 압축 붕괴 및 에너지 흡수 특성)

  • In this study, static axial crush tests were performed with the new aluminum/GFRP hybrid tube. Glass/Epoxy prepregs were wrapped around an aluminum tube and co-cured. The failure of the hybrid tube was stable and progressive without trigger mechanism, and specific energy absorption was increased to the maximum of 33% in comparison with the aluminum tube. Effective energy absorption is possible for an inner aluminum tube because a wrapped composite tube constrains the deflection of an aluminum tube. The failure of a hybrid composite tube was stable without trigger mechanism because the inner aluminum tube could play the role of the crack initiator and controller. Mean crushing load could be calculated by modifying the plastic hinge collapse model for hybrid materials. The predicted results by this analytical model showed good agreement with the experimental results. It can be said that Aluminum/Glass-Epoxy hybrid tube is suitable for the vehicle front structure because this hybrid tube shows effective energy absorption, easy production, and simple application capability for RTM process.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate the proposed jig for turning process of large-scale aluminum tube of D500mm through Finite Element Analysis (FEA). Also, a machining evaluation is conducted with general heat-treated and cryogenic heat-treated tubes. Dimensions of the specimens are determined to be suitable for collet appearance. The characteristics of equivalent stress and strain according to the expansion of the collet are evaluated by FEA. The aluminum tubes which are heat-treated by T4/T6 condition and cryogenic condition are machined by using a large-scale lathe machine and the roundness of machined tube is evaluated by using a 3D measuring machine. Through the results of this study, effects of each heat treatment and residual stress on the roundness are established.

Sol-Gel Template Synthesis and Characterization of PT, PZ and PZT Nanotubes (PT, PZ와 PZT나노튜브의 졸-겔 형판합성과 특성)

  • We report the synthesis and characterization of the perovskite nanotubes made by sol-gel template syn-thesis.Both lead titanate (PbTiO3 : PT), lead zirconate (PbZrO3 : PZ) and lead zirconium titanate (PbZrO3 -PbTiO3 : PZT) solid solution nanotubes were prepared with a chelate sol-gel of titanium isopropoxide (Ti(OPri)4 ), zirconium tet-rabutoxide (Zr(OBu)4 ) and the respective lead acetate (Pb(OAc)2 -3H2O). WhatmanRanodisc membranes, with a 200nm pore size, served as the template. After the removal of the template in the 6M-NaOH, scanning electron microscopy shows that the shapes formed are 200 nm outer diameter tubes with 50mm lengths. Transmission electron microscopy and electron diffraction reveal that the tubes are polycrystalline. The PT nanotubes so far have shown an anomalous transition temperature, 234.4$^{\circ}C$ as measured by DSC with a small particle size, 15.4 nm determined by X-ray analysis with the aid of Scherrer's equation.

  • This paper describes a development of the extrusion process and estimation of the weldability for multi cell tubes used to cooling system of automobiles. A study on extrusion process is performed through the 3D FE simulation in non-steady state and extrusion experimentation. Also, nano-indentation test is employed to estimate the weldability of tubes. Especially, An evaluation of the weldability using the nano-indentation is accomplished as compared with nano-hardness in welded part and in the others. Finally, the pattern of the mandrel defection is investigated according to shapes of the porthole and/or chamber.

  • A unique process was developed to improve the mechanical properties of a circular tube. In this proposed process, a large amount of strain is applied to the wall of tube, leading to grain refinement in the material. In order to investigate characteristics of microstructural evolution such as the distribution of grain size and misorientation angle during the process, an EBSD OIM analysis was carried out. The analysis confirms that the proposed process can very effectively produce a circular tube with ultrafine-grains.

  • 탄소나노튜브(CNTs)의 비강도는 철합금에 비해 30~50배 높으며, 알루미늄 밀도($2.7g/cm^3$)보다 낮은 $1.3{\sim}1.4g/cm^3$의 값을 갖는 고강도 고경량의 탄소소재이다. 이러한 CNT를 금속기지에 복합화 하면 비강도가 매우 우수하고 고경량화 소재의 제조가 가능하다. 하지만, CNT는 반데르발스(Van der waals) 힘에 의해 서로 뭉쳐서 존재하며, 젖음성이 나쁘기 때문에 금속과 부상 분리되는 단점이 있다. 따라서, 이러한 문제점을 보완하기 위하여 무전해 도금법, 전해도금법 등으로 Cu, Ni등을 코팅하여 문제점을 해결하려는 연구가 진행되어 왔지만, 복합소재를 제조하기 위해 필요한 CNT를 대량으로 코팅하기엔 적합하지 않다. 본 연구에서는 CNT표면에 Cu를 대량으로 형성시킬 수 있는 시멘테이션법을 이용하여, 공정조건에 따른 CNT/Cu의 석출되는 형상 및 성분의 변화를 조사하였다.

Development of automatic inspection system of defects on inner surface of pneumatic cylinder-tubes by electronic endoscope (전자내시경을 활용한 공압실린더 튜브 내면의 결함 자동검사시스템 개발)

  • The system developed inspects automatically defects existing on an inner surface of anodically treated aluminum cylinder-tubes. This system consists of automatic inspection software, and electronic endoscope and a conveyor moving device. By applying the optimal brightness conditions to searching for various defects on the inner surface of cylinder tube, the recognition rate of major defects, such as scratch, oxide and weld line reached 99%. If the present visual inspection process is replaced with the automatic defects inspection system, the physical fatigue of the operator could be reduced and the productivity could be increased. The automatic inspection system developed could also improve the quality of the products.

PEFP 빔라인의 진공 펌프 설계를 위한 압력 프로파일 계산

  • 양성자기반공학기술개발단에서는 100MeV와 20MeV의 가속기를 개발하고 있으며 빔 이용을 위하여 각 에너지에 5개의 빔라인을 구축 할 계획이다. 빔라인에는 각 마그넷과 빔 계측, 진공 등의 부품이 포함되어 있다. 본 연구에서는 빔라인의 기초 구성품인 진공 부품의 설계를 위한 압력의 계산을 수행하였다. 각 빔라인 재질에 따른 gas load는 표면의 아웃게싱이 주요하게 고려되었으며 고진공용 Cu gasket의 진공 leak는 거의 없다고 가정하였다. 재질은 스테인레스스틸과 알루미늄의 두 가지 경우를 사용하였으며 주 배기 펌프는 이온펌프로 펌핑 스피드 125L/s의 diode 타입이다. 빔튜브의 사이즈는 CF6"의 규격 플랜지를 기본으로 빔 사이즈가 고려된 여러 플랜지의 조합으로 내부 부피를 구할 수 있었다. 빔라인 뿐만 아니라 타겟룸에 위치되어지는 튜브를 합한 경우와 펌프의 개수를 다르게 하였을 때에도 길이에 따른 압력의 프로파일을 계산하였다. 빔을 분배해 주는 AC 마그넷 이전에 이온펌프 한 개를 위치하였을 때 스테인레스스틸 빔 튜브의 경우에 최대값은 1.3E-6 torr, 최소값은 1.7E-6 torr 으로 계산 되었다. 이 결과는 가속기의 아래쪽 3개의 빔라인을 동시에 배기하고 빔 조사가 가능하도록 운영되는 조건이며 운영 마진 2배를 고려한다고 하여도 최소 진공도는 3.4E-6 torr 이다. 이온펌프는 일반적으로 9.0E-6 torr 이하에서 사용이 가능하므로 이온펌프 1개의 진공도로도 운영에 무리가 없으며 이온펌프의 수가 증가됨에 따라서 최대 도달 압력이 낮아짐을 알 수 있다.

  • Recently social demands of fuel economy and environmental regulations require the development of lightweight components and new manufacturing technologies. The aluminum tube hydroforming is a manufacturing process which can provide lightweight components as automotive parts. In this paper, the hydroformability of aluminium tube in different condition of bending process is presented. An investigation has been conducted on how to control the deformed shape and its effect on thinning distribution after hydroforming by using finite element simulation. Finite element simulation of tube hydroforming for automotive trailing arm is carried out to explore the effect of 2-dimensional and 3-dimensional bending.
