  • In the research for driver assistance systems, traffic sign information to the driver must be a very important information. Therefore, the detection system of traffic signs located on the road should be able to handel real-time. To detect the traffic signs, color and shape of traffic signs is to use the information after images obtained using the CCD camera. In the road environment, however, using color information to detect traffic sings will cause many problems due to changes of weather and environmental factors. In this paper, to solve it, the candidate traffic sign regions are detected from road images obtained in a variety of the illumination changes using the HSI eign-color model. And then, using the invariant moment-based SVM classifier to detect traffic signs are proposed. Experimental results show that, traffic sign detection rate is 91%, and the processing time per frame is 0.38sec. Proposed method is useful for real-time intelligent traffic guidance systems can be applied.

  • A next generation video based car navigation is researched to supplement the drawbacks of existed 2D based navigation and to provide the various services for safety driving. The components of this navigation system could be a load object database, identification module for load lines, and crossroad identification module, etc. In this paper, we proposed the traffic lights and road sign recognition method which can be effectively exploited for crossroad recognition in video-based car navigation systems. The method uses object color information and other spatial features in the video image. The results show average 90% recognition rate from 30m to 60m distance for traffic lights and 97% at 40-90m distance for load sign. The algorithm also achieves 46msec/frame processing time which also indicates the appropriateness of the algorithm in real-time processing.

  • KHNP CRI has been developing APR+ nuclear power plant since 2007, which is GEN III+ model with 1500 MWe capacity. To develop safer and more economical nuclear power plant than APR1400, we investigated advanced design features of ALWR(advanced light water reactor) being constructed in Korea and being developed/constructed in foreign countries. We applied the advanced design features and lessons learned from Fukushima accident to develop APR+ standard design suitable for both domestic construction and overseas construction business. Three economic assessments have performed during standard design phase of APR+. The result of the 3th(final) economic analysis for APR+ standard design showed that APR+ N-th plant was about 23% more economical than coal-fired 1,000MW power plant.

  • In recent years, the subject of remaining life assessment has drawn considerable attention in power plants, where various structural components typically operate at high temperature and pressure. Thus a life prediction methodology accounting for high temperature creep fracture is increasingly needed for the components. Critical defects in such structures are generally found in the form of semi-elliptical surface crack, and the analysis of which is consequently an important problem in engineering fracture mechanics. On this background, we first develop an auto mesh generation program for detailed 3-D finite element analyses of axial and circumferential semi-elliptical surface cracks in a piping system. A high temperature creep fracture parameter $C^{\ast}$-integral is obtained from the finite element analyses of generated 3-D models. Post crack growth module is further appended here to calculate the amount of crack growth. Finally the remaining lives of surface cracked pipes for various analytical parameters are assessed using the developed life assessment program.

  • We develop the database program for accident cause analysis which can help to increase domestic safety custom and prevent recurrence of gas accident and analyze accidents easily The program developed in this study consists of two parts. one part uses accident case database applied if than rule, so it finds root causes by inference of some input values. The other uses Root Cause Analysis Map which divided human errors and equipment difficulties and so we get general root cause by reply some proper questions.

  • Hydraulic analysis of the natural gas transmission pipeline is to determine whether adequate flow can be sustained throughout the design life of pipeline under all expected flow conditions. Many factors have to be considered in the hydraulic design of long-distance pipelines, including the nature, volume, temperature and pressure of fluid to be transported, the length and elevation of pipeline and the environment of terrain traversed. This study reviewed the available gas operation data provided by pipeline construction project in the arctic area and discussed the gas properties such as viscosity and compressibility factor that influence gas flow through a pipeline. Pipeline inside diameter was calculated using several flow equations and pipeline wall thickness was calculated from Barlow's equation applying a safety factor and including the yield strength of the pipe material. The AGA flow equation was used to calculate the pressure drop due to friction, gas temperature and pipeline elevation along the pipeline. The hydraulic design in this study was compared with the report of Alaska Pipeline Project.

  • With the improvement of industrial society, the high quality electrical energy, simplification of operation and maintenance, ensuring reliability and safety are being required. This paper compares breakdown characteristics in $SF_6$ gas with $N_2/O_2$ Mixture gas($N_2:O_2=100$ : 0, 79 : 21, 60 : 40, 40 : 60) as using widely in High Voltage insulation equipment with the characteristics in different media which are focused on environmentally friendly gases. As an append result of research the results are fundamental data for electric insulation design of Distribution Power Facilities which will be studied and developed in the future. And we could make an environment friendly gas insulation material with mataining dielectric strength by $N_2/O_2$ Mixture gas which generates a lower lever of the global warming effect.

  • The recognition of current position and road surrounding of car is very important to driver for safe driving. This paper presents the recognition technique of the road traveling environment using position information hiding and viewpoint transform that monitors the information of road furniture and signature and notifies them to driver. The proposed scheme generates the road images into which the position information are hided, from car camera and GPS module and provides the road information to driver through the viewpoint transformation and the road signature detection. The driving tests with camera and GPS module verified that the position information hiding takes about 66.5ms per frame, the detection rate of road signature is about 95.83%, and the road signature detection takes about 227.45ms per frame. Therefore, we know that the proposed scheme can recognize the road traveling environment on the road video with 15 frame rate.

  • A modified VIStA (vortex inertial staged air) burner was developed and used in a once-through-type boiler. For safety, the combustion in this burner is of the non-premixed type. An air damper is installed to control the distribution of air to each combustion chamber. The effects of the air-fuel ratio and air distribution on NOx formation were investigated. The newly modified VIStA burner gives NOx reduction effect by maximum 20% in the combustion chamber of a boiler, while it yields more uniform flame than the conventional burner.

  • We propose a machine learning-based method for proactively detecting faults in LDPE processes and predicting equipment lifespan. It is important to detect and prevent unexpected faults in chemical processes in order to maximize safety and productivity. Since LDPE process is a high-pressure process up to 3,000 kg/㎠g or more, once ESD occurs, it can result in productivity loss due to increased maintenance periods. By collecting key variables operation data of the process and using unsupervised machine leaning methods, we developed a fault detection model which detected 4 ESDs 2.4 days prior to the occurrence. In addition, it was confirmed that the life expectancy of a hyper compressor can be predicted by using the physically significant key variables.
