It is commonly estimated that there is a much higher potential for accidents at a crossroads than along a single road due to its plethora of conflicting points. According to the 2006 figures by the National Police Agency, the number of traffic accidents at crossroads is greatly increasing compared to that along single roads. Among others, crossroads installed with traffic signals have more varied influential factors for traffic accidents and leave much more room for improvement than ones without traffic signals; thus, it is expected that a noticeable effect could be achieved in safety if proper counter-measures against the hazards at a crossroads were taken together with an estimate of causes for accidents This research managed to develop models for accident forecasts and accident intensity by applying data on accident history and site inspection of crossroads, targeting four selected downtown crossroads installed with traffic signals. The research was done by roughly dividing the process into four stages: first, analyze the accident model examined before; second, select variables affecting traffic accidents; third, develop a model for traffic accident forecasting by using a statistics-based methodology; and fourth, carry out the verification process of the models.
In the disaster of collapse, an immediate response is needed to prevent the damage from worsening, and damage area calculation, response and recovery plan should be established. This requires accurate detection of the damage affected area. This study performed the detection of the damaged area by using UAV which can respond quickly and in real-time to detect the collapse accident. The study area was selected as B-05 housing redevelopment area in Jung-gu, Ulsan, where the demolition of houses and apartments in progress as the redevelopment project began. This area resembles a collapsed state of the building, which clear changes before and after the demolition. UAV images were acquired on May 17 and July 9, 2019, respectively. The changing area was considered as the damaged area before and after the collapse of the building, and the changing area was detected using CVA (Change Vector Analysis) the Representative Change Detection Technique, and SLIC (Simple Linear Iterative Clustering) based superpixel algorithm. In order to accurately perform the detection of the damaged area, the uninterested area (vegetation) was firstly removed using ExG (Excess Green), Among the objects that were detected by change, objects that had been falsely detected by area were finally removed by calculating the minimum area. As a result, the accuracy of the detection of damaged areas was 95.39%. In the future, it is expected to be used for various data such as response and recovery measures for collapse accidents and damage calculation.

Following the earthquake in Gyeongju (2016) and Pohang (2017), South Korea is no longer a safe place for earthquakes. Accordingly, the need for shelters suitable for disaster environments is increasing. In this study, a lightweight composite panel was used to produce post-disaster housing for refugees to compensate for the disadvantages of existing evacuation facilities. For this purpose, an evaluation of structural performance and thermal environment for post-disaster housing for refugees composed of lightweight composite panels was performed. To assess the structural performance, a lateral loading test was conducted on a system made of lightweight composite panels. The specimens consisted of two types, which differed according to the bonding method, as a variable. In addition, the seismic and wind loads were calculated in accordance with KBC 2016 and compared with the experimental results. Regarding the energy performance, optimization of south-facing window planning and window-wall ratio and solar heat gain coefficient were analyzed to minimize heating, cooling, and lighting energy. As a result, the specimens composed of lightweight composite panels will perform sufficiently safely for lateral loads and the optimized window planning will lead to a low-energy operation.

The improvement project for school zone in Korea is occurring mostly in kindergartens and elementary schools in which children are mainly active, and is being promoted as part of measures to prevent children's traffic accidents. However, since the study on the essential installation facilities and proper level of safety facilities for School zone is lacking, this study relatively evaluated the efficiency of safety facility installation using DEA (Data Envelope Analysis) and suggested improvement plan. We built the facilities and incident data for 28 school zones in Hwaseong City. Six major facilities (Raised intersection, Raised crosswalk, Protective fence, Skid Proof, Speed hump, Speed cameras) that have proven to be effective in the preceding research were analyzed as input factors. As a result of the analysis, only 12 out of 28 showed efficiency and 16 out of efficiency. Effective groups of school zones were found to have fewer installed Protective fences, Skid Proof, and Speed cameras installations than school zones classified as ineffective groups. Protective fences were found to be efficient even if only 47% of the total extension of the school zone was installed, and the number of slip prevention facilities was 8.7 per square km. The number of subjects to be compared is 28, so this study is limited to use as a relative efficiency evaluation index, and it can be grouped into nationwide units and efficiency evaluation can be done for each group.
Edible insects have recently been increasingly promoted as a source of protein. As the number of farms rearing these insect increases, it is important to develop safe and nutritious feed sources to improve their commercial quality. The aim of the current study was to determine the effect of food by-products as feed supplements for the Korean rhinoceros beetle, Allomyrina dichotoma, which has been registered as a general food ingredient in Korea. We compared the effects of waste citrus peel, soybean curd cake, soybean oil meal, and brewers' dried grain on the growth of third instar larvae of A. dichotoma. Groups of larvae were fed with fermented sawdust and nine different combinations of the above by-products and the effects on their growth were measured until pupation. The highest survival rate was with feed supplemented with 10% brewers' dried grain (66.7%, p<0.05), and these larvae were also 26% heavier (p<0.05) than the control group that received no supplementation. In the 10% brewers' dried grain group, the larval period of third instar was shortened by almost 28 days (p<0.01) compared to the control group. Of all the groups, only that which was fed the brewers' dried grain supplement showed more than a 90% pupation rate (p<0.05). Therefore, brewers' dried grain may be useful as a source of feed for A. dichotoma.

This study has focused on analysis factors affecting safety monitoring system at tailings sites, and the evaluation equipment to monitor the factors. Twenty sites at eighteen mines with unsafe conditions were selected to examine the equipment. There were three main factors influenced safety in the sites including surface erosion, piping, and slope instability. In detail, the surface erosion was divided into three sub-factors (planting, soil-topping layer, and tailings), piping into three sub-factors (liner, rain protection facility and leachate), and slop instability was also divided into three sub-factors (slop, concrete wall, and reinforcing wall). As results of in-field measurement, a CCTV was the most effective facility, and electrical resistivity survey, acoustic sensing, thermal liner sensor, structure inclinometer, rainfall meter, and flowmeter were also highly effective. According to applications of the facilities in the unstable tailings, structural defects were mainly found in the piping, which was the most important monitoring factor for safety management of tailings sites.

In this paper, we propose a training algorithm of support vector machine (SVM) with a sensitive variable. Although machine learning models enable automatic decision making in the real world applications, regulations prohibit sensitive information from being used to protect privacy. In particular, the privacy protection of the legally protected attributes such as race, gender, and disability is compulsory. We present an efficient least square SVM (LSSVM) training algorithm using a fully homomorphic encryption (FHE) to protect a partial sensitive attribute. Our framework posits that data owner has both non-sensitive attributes and a sensitive attribute while machine learning service provider (MLSP) can get non-sensitive attributes and an encrypted sensitive attribute. As a result, data owner can obtain the encrypted model parameters without exposing their sensitive information to MLSP. In the inference phase, both non-sensitive attributes and a sensitive attribute are encrypted, and all computations should be conducted on encrypted domain. Through the experiments on real data, we identify that our proposed method enables to implement privacy-preserving sensitive LSSVM with FHE that has comparable performance with the original LSSVM algorithm. In addition, we demonstrate that the efficient sensitive LSSVM with FHE significantly improves the computational cost with a small degradation of performance.

The Under Space Integrated Map has been constructed consistently from '15 construction projects until the present time in an effort to implement the "ground sinking prevention method" for the purpose of strengthening underground safety management. The constructed Under Space Integrated Map is utilized to provide information to the person in charge at local government through application of the system of underground information based on the administrative network and to deliver this to specialized underground-safety-effects -evaluation organizations through map extraction based on a floor plan. It suffers from a limitation in its practical use, however, since information is only provided, without promoting a separate renewal project. Although in Section 1 of Article 42 in the Special Law Concerning Underground Safety Management the content pertaining to submission obligations of completion drawings related to underground information including change and renewal are stated explicitly in order to solve this problem, submission is not sufficient since a submission window based only on the administrative network is operated. Accordingly, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport constructed an online system for submitting completion drawings, in an attempt to change the method by which entities involved in underground development directly submitted completion drawings. In this study, a DB standard relating to submitting completion drawings was designed and applied in order to construct an auto-renewal system based on submitted completion drawings, which will be extended to cover the range to underground structures hereafter.

Recently, the demand for liquefied gas has been increasing for various reasons, including environmental problems, and as a result, transportation of liquefied gas through a ship is increasing, and several terminals are also being constructed to accommodate it. The size of the terminal to be constructed shall follow the result if the target ship is clearly determined. Otherwise, the size of the vessel that the terminal intends to accept shall be determined, and then, the dimensions of the vessel given in the regulations or standards shall be used. In this regard, it was found that the main dimensions of the proposed vessels are substantially different from those actually operating and the standard for large-sized vessels has not been established in the process of determining the size of the target vessel by using the "Port and Fishing Port Design Standards" and commentary(2017), which recently is most commonly used as port design criteria in order to construct the liquefied gas terminal. Because of these problems, a revision of the standard for the major dimensions of liquefied gas carriers was proposed through an analysis of the current status of ships in service, as there could be many differences between interested parties in determining the size of the target ships and terminals and evaluating the safety of terminals. It is expected that the proposed revision will be used as a more appropriate and realistic criterion for determining the size of ships and terminals in the future and will prevent unnecessary terminal construction costs.

The accident data attributes of the traffic accident report are used not only in traditional traffic safety-related research to identify the cause of traffic accidents, but also as basis data for the development of the automated vehicle driving performance verification scenarios. However, since the data attributes of the traffic accident report are limited for the purpose of reconstructing the traffic situation and developing scenarios, this study aims to provide the directions for improvement of traffic accident report, ultimately for its expanded usability for the automated vehicle test scenarios. The directions for improvement of the traffic accident report are provided by categorizing the traffic situation before the accident (pre-crash), the situation immediately before or during the accident (on-crash), and the situation after the accident (post-crash), respectively. Additional data items or data processing methods are presented. Furthermore, data elements that can be extracted from the traffic accident process data in the unstructured narrative form are explored and provided.
