  • Sharing both locations and positions of ships makes it possible to utilize critical item for their safe and efficient navigation in such diversifying meantime environments. AIS is the representative technology for the sharing solutions. The AIS is even used in airspace and ground stations, so that AIS could facilitate the ships' safety navigation and their prevention/rescue from endangers. Due to AIS's many advantages, IMO(International Maritime Organization) made adapting the AIS mandatory for international passenger ships and the ships that are over than 300 tons. AIS uses VHF band areas for transmitting information and the information can be propagated to several hundreds km in range. Due to the large range, AIS monitoring system can acquire huge number of ships, which makes system performance lower and busier. In this paper, we propose the strategy of AIS information extraction for efficient monitoring system. Thus, the monitoring system has higher processing performance and lower network usage. As well as, the proposal affects the monitoring system has more capacity to include other systems' targets, in result.

Designing a smart safe transportation system within a university using object detection algorithm

  • In this paper, we propose a novel traffic safety system designed to reduce pedestrian traffic accidents and enhance safety on university campuses. The system involves real-time detection of vehicle speeds in designated areas and the interaction between vehicles and pedestrians at crosswalks. Utilizing the YOLOv5s model and Deep SORT method, the system performs speed measurement and object tracking within specified zones. Second, a condition-based output system is developed for crosswalk areas using the YOLOv5s object detection model to differentiate between pedestrians and vehicles. The functionality of the system was validated in real-time operation. Our system is cost-effective, allowing installation using ordinary smartphones or surveillance cameras. It is anticipated that the system, applicable not only on university campuses but also in similar problem areas, will serve as a solution to enhance safety for both vehicles and pedestrians.

  • In recent years, image processing technology has played a critical role in the field of autonomous driving. Among them, image recognition technology is essential for the safety and performance of autonomous vehicles. Therefore, this paper aims to develop a hybrid image recognition system to enhance the safety and performance of autonomous vehicles. In this paper, various image recognition technologies are utilized to construct a system that recognizes and tracks objects in the vehicle's surroundings. Machine learning and deep learning algorithms are employed for this purpose, and objects are identified and classified in real-time through image processing and analysis. Furthermore, this study aims to fuse image processing technology with vehicle control systems to improve the safety and performance of autonomous vehicles. To achieve this, the identified object's information is transmitted to the vehicle control system to enable appropriate autonomous driving responses. The developed hybrid image recognition system in this paper is expected to significantly improve the safety and performance of autonomous vehicles. This is expected to accelerate the commercialization of autonomous vehicles.

  • The importance of evaluating the safety of Automated Vehicles (AV) is increasing with the advances in autonomous driving technology. Accordingly, an evaluation scenario that defines in advance the situations AV may face while driving is being used to conduct efficient stability evaluation. On the other hand, the single scenarios currently used in conventional evaluations address limited situations within short segments. As a result, there are limitations in evaluating continuous situations that occur on real roads. Therefore, this study developed a set of multiple scenarios that allow for continuous evaluation across entire sections of roads with diverse geometric structures to assess the safety of AV. In particular, the conditions for connecting individual scenarios were defined, and a methodology was proposed for developing concrete multiple scenarios based on the scenario evaluation procedure of the PEGASUS project. Furthermore, a simulation was performed to validate the practicality of these multiple scenarios.

A Real-Time Detection Method for Side-Channel Attacks to Ensure a Secure Trusted Execution Environment Against Hypervisor-Privileged Adversaries (하이퍼바이저 권한의 공격자로부터 안전한 신뢰 실행 환경을 제공하기 위한 부채널 공격 실시간 탐지 기법)

  • The recent increase in public cloud usage has led to various security issues. In response, CPU manufacturers have introduced Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technology, allowing secure service usage even with potentially untrustworthy cloud service providers. For instance, AMD offers VM-level TEE through SEV(Secure Encrypted Virtualization). However, it has been raised that confidential information can be leaked via page fault-based side-channel attacks on VMs protected by SEV. To address this, this paper proposes a method for real-time detection of such attacks in SEV environments. Nonetheless, since attackers can have hypervisor-level privileges under the SEV threat model, realizing this is challenging. To overcome this, we propose two approaches. First, using VMPL(Virtual Machine Privileged Level) to protect the detection program from untrusted hypervisors. Second, utilizing vPMU(virtual Performance Monitoring Unit) to derive new features for detecting page side-channel attacks. The designed and implemented detection program achieved a 95.38% accuracy in detecting page fault side-channel attacks.

A Study on Improvement of Evacuation Safety at Daycare Center (어린이집 피난안전 향상에 관한 연구)

  • As more and more the number of a couple working together for living has increased and an interest in early education has risen, daycare centers have made an effort to provide effective and good service beyond 'nursery care'. The most important thing in building in the event of disasters is safe evacuation of occupants. Having 'safe evacuation route' is required to reduce damage caused by disasters, It is necessary to give continuous and repeated training for right evacuation to infant and children so that they can evacuation successfully. This study examined problems that need improvement so that evacuation instrument installed in daycare centers can be used better by analyzing a survey of evacuation related facilities on daycare centers. This study found that laws and regulations on safety should be improved, evacuation facilities prepared against should be maintained regularly by relevant authorities, training for coping with disasters should be provied and evacuation instruments which are suitable for children.

  • Recently, the paradigm shift of new construction into efficient operation and maintenance of infrastructure is seen. Also, concerns about infrastructure safety, especially the aged infrastructure, are on the increase. This study evaluates the current status of infrastructure safety and maintenance using data from 1994 to 2014 in Facility Management System operated by Korea Infrastructure Safety Corporation. Also, a quantitative analysis of safety performance of infrastructure is conducted to find out the enhancement of infrastructure safety in Korea. It was found that safety of facilities in Korea have been enhanced for the past decades. Improvement of safety performance of facilities is attributed to periodic safety inspection and repair and reinforcement. The result of the study can be used as a basic material for efficient and effective facility maintenance policies and strategies.

WSN Safety Monitoring using RSSI-based Ranging Technique in a Construction Site (무선센서 네트워크를 이용한 건설현장 안전관리 모니터링 시스템)

  • High incident of accidents in construction jobsite became a social problem. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), more than 60,000 fatal accidents occur each year in construction workplace worldwide. This number of accidents accounts for about 17 percent of all fatal workplace accidents. Especially, accidents from struck-by and falls comprise of over 60 percent of construction fatalities. This paper introduces a prototype of a received signal strength index (RSSI)-based safety monitoring to mitigate the potential accidents caused by falls and struck-by. Correlation between signal strength and noise index is examined to create the distance profile between a transmitter and a receiver. Throughout the distributed sensor nodes attached on potential hazardous objects, the proposed prototype envisions that construction workers with a tracker-tag can identify and monitor their current working environment in construction workplace, and early warning system can reduce the incidents of fatal accident in construction job site.

  • The Ministry of Public Safety and Security plans to expand fire safety education infrastructure to provide customized fire safety education, spread fire safety culture and develop a tailored fire safety education system as a part of the 2016 Citizens' Safety Improvement Policy. This study has also been designed to improve safety problems in the Republic of Korea. Even though safety education has been given, citizens aren't still able to experience a close-to-real situation. In addition, their understanding and satisfaction with the curriculum are very low. Therefore, this study offers VR fire-extinguishing experience education contents as an effective alternative. With a goal of having the participants experience fire extinguishing and evacuation drill in a virtual space, this program has the following advantages: i) safe fire-extinguishing experience; ii) UI to create fun ; iii) useful in fire-extinguishing education; iv) budget saving. we configure the VR fire experience system structure and hardware by applying UX design methodology. We also develop for VR-specific motion recognition plug-in and controller that can be feeling in HMD environment.

  • It have been known that the probability of accidental happening in towing-barge is higher than that of other merchant vessels. Because the towing-barge is restricted in thier manoeuvring ability due to its towingline. A report from ministry maritime affairs and fisheries said that the rate of collision accident for towing-barge is $40\%$ high tlnn other transport system in sea. A number of researches have been carried out to improve the safety policy in the towing-barge sea transportation system by the gorvernment. This study examined the safety status in domestic towing-barge sea transportation system The registration status, safety operational policy and post accidental data were also examined A survey research of experts relating to towing-barge operation also was carried out to find the detailed of safety status. This study would be applicable to set up safety policy for towing-barge marine transportation system.
