  • Purpose : This study aimed to present the incidence of pressure ulcers and identify different associated factors according to the time of occurrence of pressure ulcers in intensive care unit (ICU) patients. Methods : The participants were 313 patients who reported pressure ulcers among 2,908 patients in ICUs at a large tertiary hospital in Gyeonggi-do. Among them, 220 patients (70.3%) had a pressure ulcer before admission, and 93 patients (29.7%) reported newly developed pressure ulcers after admission to the ICU. Data were collected between August 2018 and April 2019. Along with the time of occurrence and characteristics of pressure ulcers, diverse associated factors were gathered through electronic medical records. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-tests, and 𝑥2-tests. Results : Different risk factors associated with pressure ulcers in ICU patients according to the time of occurrence were main diagnosis, score of acute physiology and chronic health evaluation, score of Richmond agitation sedation scale, level of consciousness, administered sedatives, use of a ventilator, insertion of a feeding tube, and the duration of fasting period. Conclusion : Based on the results of this study, healthcare providers, especially ICU nurses, should try to detect early signs and symptoms of pressure ulcers, taking into account the derived factors associated with pressure ulcers in ICU patients. Practical intervention programs and strategies considering the factors associated with pressure ulcers must be developed to prevent and alleviate such ulcers in ICU patients in the future.

  • Electrochemical oxidation of silicon (p-type Si(100)) at room temperature in ethylene glycol and in aqueous solutions has been performed by applying constant low current densities for the preparation of thin SiO2 layers. In-situ ac impedance spectroscopic methods have been employed to characterize the interfaces of electrolyte/oxide/semiconductor and to estimate the thickness of the oxide layer. The thicknesses of SiO2 layers calculated from the capacitive impedance were in the range of 25-100Å depending on the experimental conditions. The anodic polarization resistance parallel with the oxide layer capacitance increased continuously to a very large value in ethylene glycol solution. However, it decreased above 4 V in aqueous solutions, where oxygen evolved through the oxidation of water. Interstitially dissolved oxygen molecules in SiO2 layer at above the oxygen evolution potential were expected to facilitate the formation of SiO2 at the interfaces. Thin SiO2 films grew efficiently at a controlled rate during the application of low anodization currents in aqueous solutions.

  • We attempted to examine field applicability by manufacturing panels using UHPC and conducting mock-up tests. Mock-up testing was conducted at the Busan location. To observe field applicability over a long period of time, it was produced and installed identically to actual panels.

  • In this study, surface performance evaluation was conducted according to the fiber and surface finishing technique of the exterior material using Ultra High Performance Concrete(UHPC), whitch is spotlighted as a highly durable exterior material. As a result of outdoor exposure, the initial performance of the UHPC Panel using organic fibers was maintained without being affected by the surface finishing technique. In the specimen using steel fiber, the surface performance was maintained when the water repellent treatment was performed in the plain specimen, but fiber corrosion occurred in the specimen to which the surface finishing technique was applied.
