This paper presents an analytic method and a design technique for golf shoes with air-cycled pump in the midsole. The golf shoes are modeled using the finite element method for better design by considering the configuration of the midsole and the outsole, which compose the golf shoes. Also the optimum size and shape of air-cycled pump in the midsole is examined. The values or standard human pressure for boundary conditions are adopted for the FEA(Finite Element Analysis). The unknown constants of the strain energy function of Ogden type are observed in accordance with the axial tension test. By the commercial FEM software for nonlinear analysis, MARC V7.3, the strains and the values of volume change for the midsole and the outsole are obtained, respectively. It can be concluded that results obtained by FEM in the midsole and the outsole are different depending on the characteristic of elastomer The results reported herein provide better understanding of analyzing the golf shoes. Moreover, it is believed that those properties of the results can be utilized in the shoes industry to develop the effective design method.
One of the major factors affecting maneuverability of an athlete is frictional force caused at an outsole of his shoe. The magnitude of the frictional force is closely related to pattern and hardness of outsole and roughness of ground or floor. This study then focuses on the effect of outsole pattern of sports shoes on the frictional force. After surveying outsole patterns of sports shoes in markets, we select 4 types of outsole patterns, such as straight, W, O, and wave as primary outsole patterns of sports shoe and we also select depth, pitch and slope as design parameters of each pattern. Corresponding to those patterns and design parameters, various outsole specimen are prepared for frictional experiments. After performing frictional tests with those specimen, coefficients of friction(COF) are collected and analyzed with a statistical tool to draw useful conclusion.

This paper introduces a measurement system for mechanical properties of sport shoes using an industrial robot. The robot system used in this paper is a commercial Puma type robot system(FARA AT2 made by SAMSUNG Electronics) with 6 joints and the end-effector is modified to produce a human walking motion. After analyzing human walking with a high speed video camera, each joint angle of the robot system is extracted to be used in the robot system. By using this system, ground impact forces were measured during stepping motion with 3 different shoe specimens made of 3 different hardness outsoles, respectively. As other mechanical properties, both bending moments to bend the toe part of the same specimen shoes and pronation quantities during walking motion were measured as well. In the impact test with the same depth of deformation under the ground level, the effect of the outsole hardness was clearly appeared such that the harder outsole produces the higher ground reaction force. The bending test and the pronation test also show proportional increments in the bending stiffness and the moment Mx according to the outsole hardness. Throughout such experiments, the robot system has produced consistent results so that the system could be used in obtaining valuable informations for a shoe designing process.

In recent years, outsourcing of information systems, including decision support systems has become a key method for managing the system portfolio of a corporation. Since the outsourced DSSs provide their own models and solvers, which may be created on the basis of different modeling practices and system platforms, the decision maker wishing to solve business problems using the outsourced DSSs frequently faces a difficulty in selecting and/or applying appropriate models and solvers to the problems on hand. This paper proposes a DSS outsourcing architecture that enables a user to discover and execute appropriate models and solvers, even though the user is not knowledgeable enough about all the details of the models and solvers. Specifically, this paper adopts a Web services approach to integrate the heterogeneous models and solvers by encapsulating individual models and solvers as Web services and hiding all system specific implementation details from the users.

To solve environmental problems, research and efforts are required to reduce leather waste that is generated in large quantities during the leather manufacturing process. Leatherboard is a plate-like material that is made by crushing leather waste, such as trimming or shaving scraps and mixing fibers, pulp, rubber, and adhesives. The aim of this study is to provide basic data on the localization of leatherboard manufacturing technology for outsoles, which are increasingly in demand due to their excellent performance and price competitiveness. Interviews with experts and related organizations were conducted to investigate the related global technology trends. Also, the performance of three products that can be used as reference materials were evaluated and compared. As part of the research and efforts to reduce the amount of leather waste generated, high-performance materials using leather waste were developed and commercialized by major western companies. In Korea, various efforts have been made since 2000, and some companies have produced leatherboard for interior uses. However, the amount of waste recycled relative to that generated is not large due to the limited demand. Natural leather soles perform better than leatherboard soles in all evaluation aspects. In the case of leatherboard, performance varied by manufacturer. German products showed flexibility resistance and dimensional stability, thereby meeting performance requirements. However, abrasion resistance and cleavage resistance were slightly below the required performance standards, and research and development is needed to improve performance in those areas. Currently, it is impossible to evaluate the performance of domestic products due to underdevelopment. However, if the development of process technology continues based on the performance evaluation results of the best leatherboard in the shoe industry, materials for outsoles will be able to be produced domestically with prices competitiveness while realizing natural leather materials performance to some extent.
This paper presents the analyzing method of golf shoes and shows design technique including air-cycled pump in the midsole. The golf shoes are analyzed by using the finite element method for the optimization in design by considering the configuration of midsole and outsole, which compose the golf shoes. Also the optimum size of air-cycled pump in the midsole is examined. Standard human pressure values for boundary conditions are adoped for the finite element analysis. The unknown constants of the strain energy function of Ogden type are observed in accordance with the axial tension test. By using the commercial FEM software for nonlinear analysis, MARC V7.3, the strains and the values of volume change for midsole and outsole are obtained, respectively. As a result, it can be concluded that these values in the midsole and the outsole are different depending on the characteristic of elastomer. More precise investigation about the assembly of two parts, which represent midsole and outsole, is under studying.
This paper presents an analytic method and a design technique for golf shoes with coolant in the insole. The golf shoes are modeled using the finite element method for precision by considering the configuration by the insole, the midsole and the outsole, which compose the golf shoes. The values of standard human foot temperature for heat transfer boundary conditions are adopted for the FEA(Finite Element Analysis). By the commercial FEM software for heat transfer analysis, MARC V7.3, the temperature and the amounts of heat flux change for the insole are obtained, respectively. It can be concluded that results obtained by FEM in the insole are different depending on the characteristic of heat transfer. The results reported herein provide better understanding of analyzing the golf shoes. Moreover, it is believed that those properties of the results can be utilized in the shoes industry to develop the effective design method.
The purpose of this study was to compare biomechanical factors on badminton shoes between anti-slip outsole and non anti-slip outsole. Six subjects participated in this experiment. For three-dimensional analysis, eight cameras (Oqus 3series, Qualisys) were used to acquire raw data, and then the parameters were calculated and analyzed with Visual-3D. In conclusion, the patterns of spent time during side step, and maximum velocities of CoGs were consistent without joint angles of lower extremities in spite of small differences. Those of GRFs, and moment of lower extremities were absolutely consistent. This trend of biomechanical factors was that Y shoe (ante-treatment) was much greater and PS shoe (treatment) was greater than Y shoe (treatment). (That was, Y shoe (ante-treatment) > PS shoe (treatment) >Y shoe (treatment)). The findings of this study showed that anti-slip outsole was effective and brought increasing performance and decreasing injuries. It is suggested that further study of these phenomena will help understand many aspects of human locomotion, including work, performance, fatigue and possible injuries.
Purpose: This study attempts to find out the optimum condition of the rotary cutter making pellet in the footwear outsole process. The pellets are used in the process of outsole rubber fabrication to reduce cycle time and save raw material. Methods: Computer simulations are used to analyze the maximum stress in the rotary cutter after designing a variety of cutter shapes. Taguchi method is used to identify the robust condition of the cutter. In $L_{18}$ orthogonal array, the control factors such as knife width, twisted angle, number of knives, diameter, knife depth and supported angle are considered and noise factors like assembly tolerance and amount of antifriction are allocated. Results: It is found that the most important factors to reduce maximum stress in the cutter are supported angle and diameter. Using Tacuchi's results, we can reduce 70% cycle time and 9% raw material compared to the traditional method using cutting die. Conclusion: When designing the rotary cutter, the best conditions are the diameter at its maximum allowable value and supported angle in the boundary of machine inner space.
This study was conducted to improve the use experience of elderly people in fast food kiosks which are actively utilizing 'un-tact' technology. First, the Kiosk design analysis criteria were discussed through literature research. Then, the UI screens of McDonald's, Lotteria and Burger King, which are currently serving kiosks in Korea, were divided into colors, layouts and buttons. Next, the usability evaluation and survey of the elderly revealed problems with the interface design of the current kiosk. As a result, older people do not recognize buttons without an outline as buttons, and errors occur when layout changes or when viewing is complicated. In addition, horizontal navigation and vertical layout menus were error-free, and the design of buttons was error-free with the same color for the same function. Research shows that the Kiosk UI design is preferred by older people. First, buttons in the form of outline or solid are recommended. Second, vertical binding of buttons combined with images and text is recommended. Third, the screen layout should be consistent with the direction of view flow and manipulation, and should avoid increasing the number of menus and information. Fourth, page navigation is recommended in horizontal form and menu arrangement is vertical form. Finally, buttons that perform the same function are efficient for buttons to use the same color, and for different functions, applying a complementary colors can reduce confusion.
