The present study aimed at investigating how Korean housekeeper in midlife revaluate their lives. For this purpose, 14 housekeepers whose youngest child was at least older than high school students were interviewed in a semi-structured retrospective method. The interview was focused on relational, psychological, and economical aspects of the participants before and after marriage each. The interview usually continued one and a half to two hours. The phenomenological method describing personal meaning of experiences was referred to for data analyses by transforming retrospective life story of participants into key meaningful units. According to main retrospective contents of each stage of development, the participants' childhood and adolescence was characterized by familial circumstances, formation of personality and value, and career choice. Main themes of their early adulthood were spouse selection and marriage, marital adaptation, and family relationships. Their midlife focused on children, economic and emotional stability, family relationships, acceptance of their spouse and themselves, and health and religion. Life styles of the participants were analyzed in terms of turning events, meanings of current life, and cumulative effects of life events. These findings were discussed in terms of developmental pattern in relation to the established theory of development.

Of the 5 food groups, 'meat fish egg bean' decreased from $24.44{\pm}13.27%$ in 2008 to $20.84{\pm}10.59%$ in 2010, but 'vegetables' increased from $44.38{\pm}15.65%$ to $50.64{\pm}14.07%$ significantly(p<0.05). In conclusion, 5th and 6th graders had an ability to select various foods for their health when cooking even if they have some foods they don't like while they lacked cooking skills such as using various cutting methods and proper cooking tools.
Objectives : This study was designed to investigate depression, anxiety, alexithymia, stress res ponses in caregivers of patients with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Methods : The subjects were 38 attention deficit hyperactivity disorder patients caregivers(38 women, mean age $37.5{\pm}6.5$). Patients were diagnosed with DSM-IV ADHD criteria. Korean version of Beck Depression Inventory(BDI), State and Trait Anxiety Inventory(STAI), Toronto Alexithymia Scale(TAS) and Stress Response Inventory(SRI) were used for assessment. Results 1) The BDI scores of ADHD patients caregiver group were significantly higher than control group$(16.4{\pm}7.1\;vs.\;10.9{\pm}5.5)(p=0.011)$. 7 of the 38 caregivers(18.4%) and none of control group(0%) had BDI scores over 20 points(p=0.021). Calculated relative risk for ADHD in the presence of caregivers' depression was 1.516 overall(95% confidence interval, 1.234-1.862). 2) In ADHD patient's caregiver group, the scores of Stress Response Inventory were significantly higher than control group$(44.2{\pm}20.2\;vs.\;26.5{\pm}16.8)(p=0.006)$. 3) No significant differences were found in the score of STAI, SIAIS, SIAI-T, TAS between caregiver and control group. Conclusion : This study suggest that ADHD patients' caregivers are likely to have more depressive symptoms and higher stress response level than control group. We propose that physicians should consider integrated approaches for caregiver's psychopathology in the management of ADHD.
This study aimed to develop and validate the Classroom Problem Behavior Scale - Elementary School Version (CPBS-E) measure which is unique to classroom problem behavior exhibited by Korean elementary school students. The focus was on developing a universal screening instrument designed to identify and provide intervention to students who are at-risk for severe social-emotional and behavioral problems. Items were initially drawn from the literature, interviews with elementary school teachers, common office discipline referral measures used in U.S. elementary schools, penalty point systems used in Korean schools, 'Green Mileage', and the Inventory of Emotional and Behavioral Traits. The content validity of the initially developed items was assessed by six classroom and subject teachers, which resulted in the development of a preliminary scale consisting of 63 two-dimensional items (i.e., Within Classroom Problem Behavior and Outside of Classroom Problem Behavior), each of which consisted of 3 to 4 factors. The Within Classroom Problem Behavior dimension consisted of 4 subscales (not being prepared for class, class disruption, aggression, and withdrawn) and the Outside of Classroom Problem Behavior dimension consisted of 3 subscales (rule-violation, aggression, and withdrawn). The CPBS-E was pilot tested on a sample of 154 elementary school students, which resulted in reducing the scale to 23 items. Following the scale revision, the CPBS-E was validated on a sample population of 209 elementary school students. The validation results indicated that the two-dimensional CPBS-E scale of classroom problem behavior was a reliable and valid measure. The test-retest reliability was stable at above .80 in most of the subscales. The CPBS-E measure demonstrated high internal consistency of .76-.94. In examining the criterion validity, the scale's correlation with the Teacher Observation of Classroom Adaptation-Checklist (TOCA-C) was high and the aggression and withdrawn subscales of the CPBS-E demonstrated high correlations with externalization and internalization, respectively, of the Child Behavior Checklist - Teacher Report Form CBCL-TRF). In addition, the factor structure of the CPBS-E scale was examined using the structural equation model and found to be acceptable. The results are discussed in relation to implications, contributions to the field, and limitations.
This study, by grasping the degree of anxiety of Korean mothers and multicultural family mothers because of their hospitalized children, was aimed to arrange the basic data for developing the program to help the mothers of Korea and multicultural family reduce the anxiety happening due to the hospitalization of their children and adapt to their environment. Methods: The subjects of the study were a total of 200 people composed of 100 multicultural family mothers, and 100 Korean mothers respectively whose children were hospitalized in the pediatric department of K university hospital located in Daejeon City. And the period of data collection was from Aug 1, 2010 to Aug 31, 2010.As a study tool, the measuring tool of Kim Jeong Taek(1978), which STAI of Sielberger(1972) was adapted to Koreans, was used.The collected data was analyzed using SPSS WIN 12.0. Results. A result of the state anxiety of the Korean mothers with that of the multicultural family mothers of the inpatient children, Korean mothers 2.11, multicultural family mothers 2.17, result of temperament anxiety showed Korean mothers 2.09, multicultural family mothers 1.94. As a result of comparing the anxiety of the Korean mothers with that of the multicultural family mothers of the inpatient children, there was no difference between groups in both temperament anxiety and state anxiety. In a situation of anxiety, when there was no explanation of the treatment or therapy, both Korean mothers and multicultural family mothers showed the severe anxiety. In the degree of anxiety according to the general characteristics of the mothers of the inpatient children, there was not a statistically significant result in anxiety according to general characteristics of the inpatient children of korean family mothers, there was a significant difference in state anxiety according to the state of average monthly income in Korean mothers(P<.05), however, there was a significant one in temperament anxiety in the course of perceiving a test method in multicultural family mothers(P<.05). In the degree of anxiety according to the general characteristics of the mothers of the inpatient children, there was a significant difference in state anxiety according to the state of average monthly income in Korean mothers(P<.05), however, there was a significant one in temperament anxiety in the course of perceiving a test method in multicultural family mothers(P<.05). Aim:We think that the most important etiology in parent abuse is the psychodynamic and psychopathology in the family. So, we investigated the adolescents being admitted in SNMH, whose chief complaints were parent abuse. We were trying to explore families psychodynamic and psychopathology, especially mother-child interaction and to differentiate them in according to developmental psychopathology. Method:Our objects were the adolescent patients admitted in SNMH from 1987 to 1997 because they attacked parents verbally and physically. We examined 21 adolescents except those with psychosis, organic mental disorder, autism and mental retardation by means of interview or chart review. Result and Conclusion:The number of male patients was 14 and the number of female patients was 7. The most common diagnosis was conduct disorder and borderline personality disorder. The mean age was in the mid-teens. We observed 4 subgroups that were divided developmentally in object relation. 1) Symbiotic group with mother:(1) They did not separate and remain in symbiotic relationships with their mothers based on insecure attachment. Fathers were abscent emotionally and physically, and their mothers were prominent in close relationships with the patients in their family , where as the patients were the only man in the family. Adolescents entered the second separation-individuation. They expressed anger and internal tension involved with the close attachment with their mothers and also attempted separation from their mothers through physically attacking them. (2) These patients had suffered from physical illness and developmental delay since birth. Therefore the parents overprotected their children. The children had persistent infantile omnipotence and fantasies of power, so they could not deal with unrealistic states, adapt to reality, and depended on their parents overtly. They easily acted out unless their demands were fulfilled. 2) Borderline personality disorder:We observed deficiencies in care taking. Their parents had personality problems and immaturity. They coulden’t help their children to be separated in the rapproachment phase. Their conflict about dependence-independence was revived in the second separation-individuation adolescent period. We understand parent abuse as an attempt to overcome the conflict. 3) Conduct disorder:They did not build up basic attachment with their parents. They think of their parents as only a means of fulfilling their needs. When patients’ need were not fulfilled and remained in a conflicted state, they attacked their parents, unable to control their aggressions and impulses.
This study was carried out to study the changing patterns in muscle activities in Angle's II and Class III malocclusion patients following activator therapy, To study the activities of anterior temporal(T.A.), masseter(M.M.), posterior temporal(T.P.), and anterior belly of digastric(D.A.) muscles, surface electrodes were placed on 15 Angle's Class II and 17 Angle's Class III malocclusion patients and following conclusions were obtained after electromyographic recordings were taken at prior to the activator therapy and at some time between 6 -12 month after the start of activator therapy. 1. Class II and Class III malocclusion groups, when compared to normal occlusiongroup, showed no significant differences during resting and swallowing. But significant differences were observed in masseter and posterior temporal muscles during clenching. 2. Most of the muscles studied showed a certain pattern, that is those groups whose pre-treatment E.M.G. were lower than the normal value showed significant increase after activator therapy, whereas those groups whose pre-treatment E.M.G. were higher than the normal value showed significant decrease after activator therapy. This pattern was observed in all of the muscle groups studied except T.A.(swallowing), T.P.(clenching) and D.A.(swallowing, clenching) in Angle's Class III malocclusion group and in Angle's Class II malocclusion group, above tendency were observed only in T.A.(swallowing), M.M.(resting, swallowing) and T.P.(clenching). This pattern was less obvious during clenching. 3. When E.M.G. activity after activator therapy between Angle's Class II and Class III malocclusion group was compared, Class III malocclusion group showed more increase during resting, and Class II malocclusion group showed more increase during swallowing and clenching excepting M.M. and D.A. respectively.

This study adopts an ecological perspective to empirically navigate the issues surrounding the impact of parental abuse on the emotional development of adolescents. The data is used from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey 2011 (KCYPS 2011), which was conducted by the National Youth Policy Institute (n=2,270). Path models were constructed in which adolescents' environmental mediators (i.e., the relationship with parents, friends, and teachers; and school life) control their negative emotions (i.e., aggressiveness, negative physical symptoms, social weakness and depression); in turn to compare the difference between two groups based on parental abuse by using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). As with the non-abused group (n=1,644), all the environmental mediators remained significant to control their negative emotion; whereas, the abused group (n=626) showed no significant pathway from their relationship with teachers and school life to negative emotion. This indicates that the abused group have limited number of the mediators to control their negative emotion than those of the non-abused group. For the non-abused group, the mediator with the highest total effect to control their negative emotion was the relationship with their friends; on the other hand, the abused group's mediator that showed the highest total effect to control their negative emotion was the relationship with their parents. Although the relationship with teachers remained significant as a mediator to affect school life for the both groups, teachers were not significant to control the negative emotion of the abused group. These findings suggest that the negative relationship with teachers in the abused group is a factor to threat the school adaptation of adolescents, which also leads to problems that are related to the emotional development of adolescents.
