취학전 아동을 둔 어머니의 양육효능감 관련 변인 연구 (Predictors of Parenting Efficacy)

  • Predictors of parenting efficacy were examined in 448 college-educated mothers of kindergarten children. The mothers completed measures of maternal self-efficacy, child temperament, and father's child-rearing involvement. Higher parenting self-efficacy was observed in mothers of daughters, older siblings, less emotional, more active, and more sociable children, and among mothers who perceived higher levels of father's child-rearing involvement. Of the father's child-rearing involvement variables, guidance of socially appropriate language and behavior was the best predictor of mothers' parenting efficacy.

유아의 기질, 어머니의 양육역량, 유아의 외현화 문제행동 간의 관계 (A Structural Relationship between Preschoolers's Temperament, Mothers' Parenting Competency, and Externalizing Behavior Problems)

  • 본 연구에서는 유아의 개인변인인 기질요인과 환경 변인으로 어머니의 자신의 능력에 대한 지각 및 양육실제를 함께 고려하여 유아의 외현화 문제행동을 이해하고, 이를 기초로 문제행동 중재 방안을 제언하고자 한다. 본 연구의 목적을 위해 5차년도(2012년) 한국아동패널데이터를 분석자료로 사용하였으며, 유아 1703명과 그의 어머니가 대상이 되었다. 본 연구에서 나타난 결과를 요약하고 논의하면 다음과 같다. 첫째, 유아의 기질요인 중 정서성기질은 어머니 양육역량에 부정적 영향을, 활동성기질과 사회성기질은 어머니의 양육역량에 긍정적 영향을 주었다. 둘째, 유아의 기질요인 중 정서성기질은 유아의 외현화 문제행동에 직접적으로 부정적 영향을 미쳤으나, 유아의 기질요인 중 활동성기질과 사회성기질은 유아의 외현화 문제행동에는 직접 영향을 미치지 않았다. 셋째, 어머니의 양육역량이 높을수록 외현화 문제행동이 덜 나타났다. 넷째, 어머니의 양육역량은 자녀의 기질이 외현화 문제행동에 미치는 영향을 매개하였다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 자녀의 문제행동을 중재하기 위한 어머니 교육은 자녀의 기질에 대한 올바른 이해 및 양육역량을 높일 수 있는 방향으로 이루어져야 함을 제언한다.

걸음마기 영아의 기질적 특성에 관한 어머니의 신념과 반응 (Korean Mothers' Beliefs Regarding Toddlers' Temperament, and their Reactions to What they View as Desirable and Undesirable Behavior)

  • The purpose of this study was to explore Korean mothers' beliefs regarding their toddlers' temperament, including what they believe constitutes desirable and undesirable behavior, and their resulting reactions. Data were collected int the process of interviewing 50 Korean mothers of toddlers (whose average age was 34.1 Months, and of which 54% were boys). Results revealed that mothers considered 'High-Sociality', 'Positive Affect' and 'High-Effortful Control' as desirable temperaments, whereas 'Negative Affect', 'Under-Effortful Control' and 'Low Sociality' were considered to be undesirable temperaments for toddlers. Mothers cited the importance of child 'Sociality' and 'Development', 'Easiness of Parenting' and 'Child Happiness' as the reasons for their beliefs. While, they considered 'Negative Affect', 'Under-Effortful Control' and 'Low Sociality' to be undesirable temperaments, citing 'Sociality', 'Difficulty of Parenting', 'Development' and 'Child Safety' as the reasons. Finally, mothers were more likely to give verbal encouragement or physical encouragement such as hugging, in responding to desirable behavior on the part of their child, whereas they were more likely to give firm inhibition, reasoning or inconsistent reaction to their child's undesirable behavior. Many of the mothers' beliefs varied depending on the child's gender. Results were discussed in relation to cultural perspectives.

연변 지역의 조선족과 한족 및 한국 아동의 기질 비교 (Cross-Cultural Differences in Temperament Among Korean-Chinese, Chinese in Yanji and Korean Children)

  • This study investigated the cross-cultural differences in temperament among Chinese, Korean-Chinese, and Korean children. Subjects were 1,046(258 Korean-Chinese, 290 Chinese, and 498 Korean) 4th graders from Yanji in China and Seoul and Ulsan in Korea. The short form of the Early Adolescent Temperament Questionnaire Scale-Revised containing 10 scales of 54 items was translated into Korean for Korean and Korean-Chinese children and into Chinese for Chinese children and was administered to children via home-room teachers. Chinese children rated themselves higher on activation control, attention, and pleasure- and perceptual-sensitivity subscales than other groups. On the contrary, Chinese-Korean children rated themselves higher on the affiliation subscale and Korean children rated themselves higher on the aggression subscale than other groups. There were larger gender differences among Chinese and Korean-Chinese than among Korean children: Gender difference was found in activation control, aggression, and attention subscales among Chinese children and in affiliation, aggression, attention and fear subscales among Korean-Chinese. There was only significant difference in pleasure sensitivity among Korean. Rapid westernization in Korea seems to be responsible for this result. Since there were significant differences of temperament between Korean and Korean-Chinese, and between Chinese and Korean-Chinese, it was interpreted that children's temperament is influenced by both their environment and genetic endowment.

부부갈등과 유아의 기질 및 정서조절능력이 유아의 문제행동에 미치는 영향 (Problem Behavior of Preschool Children : The Influence of Marital Conflict and of Children's Temperament and Emotion Regulation)

  • In this study of the influence of marital conflict and of children's temperament and emotion regulation on problem behavior, 194 mothers of 3- to 5-year-old children responded to the O'Leary- Poter Scale(1980), the Emotionality, Activity and Shyness scale(Buss & Plomin, 1984) and the Emotion Regulation Checklist(Shields & Cicchetti, 1997); teachers rated children's behavior on the Problem Behavior Questionnaire(Behar & Stringfield, 1974). Data were analyzed by independent t-tests, correlations, and multiple regressions. Results demonstrated that shyness, activity, and emotion regulation had direct effects on hostile-aggressive behaviors. Shy temperament had a direct effect on fearful-anxious behavior. Both marital conflict and temperament influenced hostile-aggressive behaviors indirectly through emotion regulation, implying a crucial role of emotion regulation in preschoolers' social development.

유아의 놀이와 기질 및 다중지능간의 관계 (Relationships among Temperament, Multiple Intelligences and Play of Preschool Children)

  • This study explored relationships among temperament, multiple intelligences and play characteristics of preschool children. Participants were 150 mothers of preschool children and 10 preschool teachers in Seoul. They responded to questionnaires; data were analyzed by correlation and multiple-regression major results showed there were positive correlations between emotionality sub-areas of children's temperament and play and between multiple intelligences and play as follows : (1) Cognitive play was predicted by linguistic intelligence and response of temperament, (2) Language play was predicted by interpersonal intelligence and physiology-regulation of temperament, (3) Social play was predicted by interpersonal intelligence and response of temperament, (4) Emotional play was predicted by logical-mathematical intelligence and emotions of temperament, and (5) Movement play was predicted by logical-mathematical intelligence.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate which variables predicted preschoolers' pro-social behavior. Subjects consisted of 250 preschooler-mother pairs; children were 3 to 6 years of age Children's emotional intelligence and pro-social behavior were assessed by classroom teachers. Data on the mothers' socialization beliefs and strategies as well as children's temperament were gathered through maternal self-reported questionnaires. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlation and regression analyses. Results showed that children's temperament (withdrawal predisposition) and emotional intelligence (self emotional expression) predicted children's pro-social behavior. Mothers' perceptions of the importance of pro-social behavior correlated negatively with children's pro-social behavior.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate relationships between adolescent's behavioral inhibition and social anxiety focused on the moderating effects of perceived parental rearing behaviors. Subjects were 749 7th through 9th grade students attending schools in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Major findings were that (1) boys' and girls' behavioral inhibition was an important factor predicting social anxiety; and (2) perceived parental rearing behaviors played the role of moderating variables on the influence of behavioral inhibition of boys' and girls' social anxiety. In the boys' group, perceived intrusion had a moderating effect on the relationships between behavioral inhibition and social anxiety; in the girls' group, perceived warmth and perceived granting of autonomy acted as moderating variables on social anxiety.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate which variables predicted parenting efficacy. The variables of interest were demographic variables regarding both the infants and mothers, infant temperament and development, maternal parenting knowledge, parenting belief, and parenting stress. The subjects consisted of 260 infants and mothers. Data on infant's temperament, parenting knowledge, parenting belief, parenting stress and parenting efficacy were gathered through maternal self-reported questionnaires. Furthermore, infant development was assessed by classroom teacher. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, correlation and regression analyses. Our results indicated that infant's sociability and activity, parenting knowledge about emotional development, parenting beliefs emphasizing the role of nature in infant development, low parenting stress all predicted parenting efficacy.

출생순위, 형제 성구성, 형제기질조합에 따른 형제 상호작용 (Sibling Interaction by Birth Order, Sibling Sex Composition, and Sibling Temperament Combination)

  • The sample of this study on sibling relationships consisted of 40 pairs of preschool siblings and their mothers. Results were that elder siblings initiated more behavior, initiated more negative behavior, and responded with more negative or no response to affirmative behavior initiated by the younger siblings. Younger siblings exhibited more responsive behavior, initiated more affirmative behavior, showed more affirmative responses to or imitation of affirmative behavior, and imitation of negative behavior than elder siblings. Male pairs exhibited more physical affirmative interaction than female or male-female pairs. Female pairs exhibited more lingual affirmative interaction than male or male-female pairs. Siblings with similar temperaments showed more boastful or no response to negative behaviors than siblings with differing temperaments. Siblings with differing temperaments exhibited more affirmative behaviors than siblings with similar temperaments.
