  • This study shows the effectiveness of mental health by applying the Light of the Mind program to 45 nursing students who applied for the Human Relations class at JS University and showed 90% attendance once a week for a total of 10 sessions and 60 minutes per session. The 'Light of the Heart' program was carried out in the Simsang-Poetry therapy stage and technique, an integrated art and cultural therapy that recognizes the 'light' representing 'inner positivity'. As a result of phenomenological and qualitative analysis of the participants' descriptions, the categories of source, healing power, positive perception, self-realization, positive emotion, potential, and self-awareness were shown, and there was a statistically significant difference in the experimental group compared to the control group when analyzing before and after the resilience scale. This study is significant in that it improved the mental health of nursing students through human relations classes. It is necessary to develop and carry out various programs for the promotion of human relations and mental health of college students, and it will be helpful to the mental health of modern people by expanding this program to the general public.

  • The purpose of this study is to determine the effects of guided imagery activities using music on both mood states and physiological responses of psychiatric inpatients. The experimental group was consisted of 27 psychiatric patients participating in the guided imagery activities using music for 11 minutes. Also, the control group was formed with 27 psychiatric patients with non-musical intervention. Mood states, blood pressure, pulse and skin temperature were checked before and after session. We could see the significant difference in the score of five areas-tension, depression, anger, vigor, fatigue-showed most differences in score. Also, the score of skin temperature of both experimental group and between two groups showed significant differences, too. Therefore, we can conclude that these results were showing that guided imagery activities using music was an effective nursing intervention method for altering mood state of psychiatric patients. Besides, it seemed to have physiological impact to make patients relax tension backed up by change of skin temperature.

The purpose of this study is the deduction of meaning information through analysis in the viewpoint of big data at online social network service(SNS) about 'literary therapy'. Accordingly, the main way of research became content analysis of keyword linked to literary therapy by utilizing opinion mining method related to text mining. The study mainly grasped 'literary therapy' and analyzed 'bibliotherapy' comparatively. The period of study was from Oct. 10th to Nov. 10th, 2014(during 30 days), and SNS such as blog or twitter became the subject of search. Through the result of study analysis, the conclusion that the spread of literary therapeutic prospect, structural harmony of literary therapeutic field, and the solidity of perceptional axis about literary therapy are needed can be drawn. This study is worthwhile because it can investigate popular awareness about literary therapy and can suggest alternative for invigoration of literary therapy.

But there are not many scientific researches on the issue. Therefore, the research of efficacy of singing bowl that helps relax middle-aged women who have sleep disorder is needed to improve their health. This study was conducted with Giorgi's phenomenological method with 4 middle-aged women with sleep disorder, whose Pittsburgh sleeping quality scale marked over 5 points, who took part in singing bowl experience for 40 minutes and did the interview. The study resulted in following conclusions that through participants' singing bowl experience, 518 constructive meanings, 15 meaning units, 7 sub components, and 2 group subjects were drawn up. Firstly, when participants took part in the singing bowl experience, they underwent physical, mental, imagery experiences which are physical pain and muscle relaxation, mental relaxation, and positive mindset and imaginary images and colors. Secondly, physical changes that the participants felt after singing bowl experience was increased physical relaxation, improved physical symptoms and more physical activities, and psychologically participants also felt reduced anxiety, increased happiness and positive mentality. And behavioral changes are relaxed movements, increased activities, and improved sleep is huge benefit through changes of sleep pattern. In this study, singing bowl is confirmed to be effective both physically and psychologically on relaxing the middle-aged women's tensions that are caused by sleep disorders and singing bowl experience is meaningful in that the middle-aged women as well as modern people with the sleep disorders can be helped to have better lives.

  • Purpose : Active perioperative intervention and improvement on surgical technique has decreased the mortality rate of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection (TAPVC); however, when complicated with pulmonary venous obstruction, operative mortality is still high. The purpose of this study was to investigate the clinical course of TAPVC. Methods : Twenty-seven patients who were diagnosed with TAPVC (without other complex heart anomalies) by echocardiogram at Kyungpook National University Hospital from January 1994 to February 2008 were included. Results : Mean age at diagnosis was $28.1{\pm}33.4$ days (1-126 days). Sites of drainage were supracardiac type (15), cardiac (6), infracardiac (5), and mixed (1). Seven patients had pulmonary venous obstruction: 5 with supracardiac type, 1 with cardiac, and 1 with infracardiac. Intraoperative trans-esophageal echocardiograms were performed in 14 patients (58.3%). The operative mortality was 16.7% (4 of 24) and overall hospital mortality (including deaths without operation) was 22.2% (6 of 27). There were 5 postoperative pulmonary venous obstructions. The sites of obstruction were anastomotic in 3 of 5 (60%) patients, and ostial pulmonary vein in the other 2 (40%) patients. Three patients who presented with anastomotic pulmonary venous obstruction underwent reoperation, but all the patients were found to have pulmonary venous anastomotic obstruction. The other 2 patients with ostial pulmonary vein obstruction who had no significant symptoms were diagnosed by routine echocardiographic examination during follow-up. Conclusion : In TAPVC patients, early diagnosis and aggressive surgical management will improve prognosis, and we must pay attention to early and late pulmonary vein restenosis through intraoperative trans-esophageal echocardiogram and peri- and post-operative echocardiographic follow-up examinations.

  • Background: The atrial fibrillation in patients with mitral valvular heart disease is frequently converted to sinus rhythm after the mitral valve surgery. This sinus restoration implies an important meaning in that it not only helps postoperative convalescence in patients with unstable hemodynamics but also reduces the rate of postoperative thromboembolism. Material and Method: We retrospectively analyzed 184 patients who received mitral valve surgery from June 1986 to December 1996 to investigate the trend of rhythm change following mitral valve surgery and thus to clarify the predisposing factors of postoperative sinus rhythm conversion and its maintenance. Result: The sinus rhythm was restored after the operation in 54 out of 139 patients with atrial fibrillation preoperatively(38.8%). However, the atrial fibrillation recurred in 41 patients at the time of discharge showing a recurrence rate of 75.9 percent. The mean duration of sinus rhythm in patients with eventual atrial fibrillation recurrence was 8.2${\pm}$5.9 days. Only 15 patients were in sinus rhythm at the time of late follow-up with the mean follow-up period of 84.4${\pm}$34.7 months. While the age, duration of symptoms, duration of atrial fibrillation, left atral size, and pulmonary artery pressure were thought to be the predisposing factors for sinus conversion after the operation, only the duration of atrial fibrillation and ejection fraction were considered risk factors for the recurrence of the atrial fibrillation following sinus conversion. Conclusion: This study suggests that the early operation is mandatory for the satisfactory result regarding postoperative rhythm. Moreover, additional operative measure in adjunct to the intervention of mitral valve should be considered for the maintenance of restored sinus rhythm as reflected by high postoperative recurrence rate of atrial fibrillation.
