In this study, aesthetic impressions were used for a high-level feature of image retrieval. The term, 'aesthetic' has been studied in psychology, art, and literature. It means unconscious, instantaneous parts of visual perception and emotion. The literatures related to aesthetic impressions were reviewed and four kinds of aesthetic impressions were defined operationally : strong impression, soft impression, courteous impression, and refined impression. 66 image files of paintings were sampled randomly from 1100 paintings and low-level color features were extracted from them by a using perceptual color model(Lai, & Tait, 1998). The high-level features of an image, that is, four kinds of aesthetic impressions of each painting were measured by 4 subjects and averaged. In CBIR, 2 subjects performed image retrievals using example queries. They were asked to retrieve images by using the aesthetic impressions or the keywords. In evaluations, subjects showed that they were satisfied with the aesthetic impression-based image retrieval system on the average. And R-precision of the image retrieval with both color features and aesthetic impressions was higher than that of the image retrieval with color features only. But further studies with larger test collections and query sets should be followed for generalization of the result of this study.

앞에서 임프란트 주변 연조직의 형태를 작업모형에서 재현하기 위한 몇가지 방법을 살펴 보았다. 심미성이 점차 강조되고 있는 추세에 비추어 단순하게 치아의 심미성 보다는 전반적으로 연조직과 경조직이 잘 조화되는 수복물이 요구되고 있다. 잘 만들어진 작업모형은 좀 더 심미적이고 안정된 결과를 얻을 수 있도록 도움이 될 것이다.

When wearing complete dentures, patients want to function naturally within a physiologically stable range. To do this, recovery of esthetics, biologically stable arrangement and contour, and occlusal contacts with denture stability are necessary. In this case report, a complete denture patient of adverse conditions was presented. To increase stability of the dentures, functional impression was made by border molding using the neutral zone. The dentures were checked for physiological centric relations and stable occlusion. The clinical results showed satisfactory results on function and esthetics.

The growing of healthy aged edentulous peoples in these days increases the demands of denture which is excellent in function and aesthetic. The Biofunctional Prosthetic System(BPS) is being introduced as a curriculum in a large number of schools in the United States, Europe and Japan. Each stages of BPS are standardized and systematized, on this account BPS is the system that even less experienced clinicians is able to produce highly satisfactory denture for patients. Additionally, the combination of BPS and suction mechanism of mandibular complete denture would make it possible to produce stabilized mandibular denture during oral function. The purpose of this article is to describe a process of producing fuctionally and aesthetically outstanding denture by using BPS combined with mandibular suction mechanism.

In the case of excessively worn dentition, there is often insufficient space for the prosthesis, and if physiologically acceptable, the prosthesis can be fabricated by increasing the vertical dimension of occlusion. Various methods have been introduced to determine the vertical dimension of occlusion. Clinicians have to choose a method that can comfort the patient among several methods. A removable appliance can be used as a reversible method to ensure that the determined vertical dimension of occlusion does not cause physiological problems. When making impressions of many teeth, it is often difficult to make accurate impressions at once. In this case, after making an accurate impression of the individual teeth, a transfer coping was made and a pickup impression was taken in the oral cavity to create a master cast. In this case, a fixed partial denture was fabricated and full mouth rehabilitation was performed by increasing the vertical dimension of occlusion in a patient with excessively worn dentition and lack of space for restoration. As a result of follow-up of the patient for 7 years, satisfactory results were obtained both esthetically and functionally.

In case with severely atrophied mandibular ridges, it may be difficult to achieve adequate retention and stability of dentures through the normal functional impression process of complete dentures. In these patients, an approach using the neutral zone raising technique may be an effective alternative. The neutral zone is defined as the area where the pressure of the tongue towards the outside of the mouth and the pressure of the cheek and lips towards the inside are balanced during the normal oral function of the muscular-nervous system. Complete dentures made through neutral zone impression not only improve retention and stability, but also provide adequate tongue space in the posterior teeth area. Additionally, food residues are reduced in the area around artificial teeth, and aesthetics are improved through appropriate facial support.

With the increasing demand for aesthetic implant dentistry, the importance of implant restoration is emphasized not only in the functional aspect but also in the aesthetic aspect. The aesthetic restoration of dental implants in the anterior maxilla is a challenge for clinicians because it requires proper harmony in three following conditions; reconstruction of hard tissue, soft tissue, and aesthetic prosthesis. The soft tissue aesthetics are dependent upon the condition of the supporting hard tissue because the osseous structure provides a framework for the development of a healthy and aesthetic soft tissue interface. Therefore, the augmentation of hard tissue is a first step and especially, optimal 3-dimensional position of implant is the most important factor in aesthetic implant restoration. The management of soft tissue is a second step, and the final step is a restoration of harmonic prosthesis using provisional restoration with proper emergence profile. This clinical report describes the procedure of bone augmentation in labial dehiscence defect, Vascularized Interpositional Periosteal-Connective Tissue (VIP-CT) flap for aesthetic anterior soft tissue, and the importance of provisional restoration and impression taking stage with customized impression coping.

치관부 파절이나 치아결손 혹은 치아형태의 이상이나 변색된 치아등으로 보철치료가 요구되는 경우 저작, 연하, 발음등의 회복과 심미적인 회복이 중요한 목적이 되며, 전치부에서는 심미성이, 구치부에서는 기능적인 회복이 더욱 강조된다. 보철치료후 치료목적을 달성하고 건강한 구강내의 상태를 유지하기 위해서는 보철물이 지대치 및 주위조직에 생물학적으로 조화되어 병적상태를 유발시키지 않아야 하며, 이를 위해서는 시술전에 올바른 진단과 적절한 치료계획을 세우고, 지대치 형성, 인상채득 및 임시관 장착, 금속관 및 가공의치 제작, 구강내의 시적(try-in), cementation등 모든 과정을 주위조직과 관련하여 주위 깊게 행하여야 한다.

Flabby ridges adversely affect the stability of complete dentures. For the management it is suggested that soft tissues reconditioned before making definitive dentures, and modified impression techniques used for the flabby ridges. Also, correct record of centric relation is important in complete dentures. This case of 67-year-old edentulous female patient had atrophied ridges on the mandible and the flabby ridge on the maxilla. Treatment dentures were fabricated using gothic arch tracing method and tissue conditioner. Definitive dentures were made using window opening impression technique, the gothic arch tracing method, and lingualized occlusion. The patient was satisfied with the function and esthetic quality of the new prostheses.

The maxillary anteriors play an important role in esthetics. Therefore after extraction, it is crucial to preserve the hard tissue and soft tissue in order to promote esthetics of restoration. There are several challenges when restoring the maxillary anteriors via implant. Some of the challenges are be maintaining consistency with neighboring teeth in terms of shade, form, and texture : as well as having harmonious emergency with the gingival margin. In this case, a traumatized patient with crown-root fracture of the maxillary central and lateral incisors is presented. The cracked teeth were extracted, and implants were inserted with bone grafts to compensate the volume of damaged area of the maxillary anterior. Cantilever implant prosthetics were planned while precise adjustments to the gingival area were made using customized impression coping to perform the esthetic restorations. The final outcome of the treatment was satisfying in both esthetic and utilitarian perspective.
