  • This study investigated the relationship between older driver's safe driving behavior, driving mobility(amount of driving, assessment for driving-related physical ability, confidence for adaptation in driving situation, amount of social activity) and subjective well-being(life satisfaction, positive/negative affect). The data of these variables were collected by questionnaire method based on face-to-face interview. The results can be summarized as followings. First, the older driver who reported higher scores in the self-report safe driving behavior questionnaire tended to show higher level of subjective well-being and driving-based mobility. Second, all the sub-factors in the driving-based mobility questionnaire were positively related to life satisfaction, positive affect but negatively related to negative affect except amount of driving. Finally, it was found that both confidence for adaptation in driving situation and amount of social activity positively mediated the relationship between self-report safe driving behavior and life satisfaction and positive affect, but confidence for adaptation in driving situation negatively mediated the relationship between self-report safe driving behavior and negative affect, Implication and suggestion were discussed.

  • Recently, consumers are showing interest in social and environmental issues. In addition, consumers are increasingly participating in meaning-out that give meaning to their consumption and express moral values. However, unlike the spread of meaning-out, existing studies are lacking. This study approaches meaning out, which has become a recent issue, from an experiential point of view, and aims to study how the experiential characteristics of meaning out affect psychological effects such as improvement of self-esteem and subjective well-being. First, we hypothesized that the experience of meaning out(feel, think, act, relate) had an effect on subjective well-being through improvement of self-esteem. We tested the hypothesis on a total of 197 data using the structural equation model. As a result, it was found that three experiences excluding 'feel' have a positive effect on the improvement of self-esteem, and and improved self-esteem had a positive effect on improving subjective well-being. This study expands existing studies and provides practical implications by confirming that meaning out has a positive psychological effect.

  • This study examines the impact of school violence on South Korean students' psychological well-being. The research is designed to analyze how different types of experiences of school violence-victim, perpetrator, victim-perpetrator, and non-involvement-influence students' suicidal impulse and sense of happiness. Empirical data was gained from a national-scale survey conducted by Social Development Research Institute at Yonsei University in 2013, and was analyzed using binary logistic and multiple regression methods. Findings suggest that any types of experiences of school violence had significant effect on suicidal impulse. In particular, the likelihood of victim-perpetrator to experience suicidal impulse was 7.1 times stronger than non-involvement. However, the effect of experiences of school violence on students' sense of happiness was insignificant. While the impact of school violence on sense of happiness among victims and victim-perpetrators was significant, its impact among perpetrators proved insignificant. Rather, stress factor-in particular, stress from peers-had more significant impact on the level of students' happiness. This study contributes to understanding the multiple effect of school violence by examining both negative and positive dimensions of psychological well-being.

  • Children play a crucial role in the lives of parents, but research on the parent-child relationship has focused mainly on its impact on parents' social relationships and happiness. This study explored how parenting motives affect the association between parents' relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being. Previous studies have suggested that the psychological benefits of achievement or positive experiences in specific life domains are dependent on the perceived importance of such domains. Thus, we hypothesized that a satisfying relationship with children can strongly predict the subjective well-being of parents with elevated parenting motives. The study included Korean (Study 1) and American (Study 2) participants. Results of both studies demonstrated a pronounced positive correlation between parents' relationship satisfaction with children and subjective well-being in individuals with high levels of parenting motives. This moderating effect persisted even after controlling for relevant covariates (e.g., gender, age, and Big 5 personality traits). Notably, this effect was particularly evident in subfactors of subjective well-being, which is negative affect.

  • The effects of positive psychology promoting programs for undergraduate nursing students were evaluated. The study was designed using a nonequivalent control group pretest-posttest design; data were collected between June 22 and September 4, 2019. The participants were 37 nursing students, who were assigned to an experimental group (n=18) and a control group (n=19) at two colleges in D and P city. The positive psychology-promoting program was provided for six weeks (12 sessions, 100~120 min.). The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis, t-test, 𝑥2 test, repeated measure ANOVA, and paired t-test with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. After receiving the positive psychology-promoting program, a difference in optimism (F=16.74, p<.001), psychological well-being (F=14.69, p<.001), and stress-coping strategy (problem solving; F=4.35, p=.015, social support; F=3.87, p=.028) was observed between the experimental and control groups. The results indicate that the positive psychology-promoting program was effective in increasing optimism, psychological well-being, and stress coping strategy in undergraduate nursing students. These findings will contribute to the development of a program to improve the mental health of undergraduate nursing students.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationships among network centrality, psychological well-being (PWBS), and intention to exercise maintenance in participants of an aquatic exercise program. Methods: Using a single-experimental design, 17 osteoarthritis patients participated in an aquatic exercise program. The questionnaire to connect the network of members was used to peer nomination by Moreno (1953). Data were analyzed with the UCINET using centrality (degree, closeness, betweenness) and SPSS using descriptive statistics, wilcoxon signed ranked test, and spearman's rho. Results: Closeness centrality, PWBS, and intention to exercise maintenance were significantly different between 4 weeks and 8 weeks. At 4 weeks, PWBS was positively correlated with closeness centrality. Intention to exercise maintenance was positively correlated with degree, closeness, and betweenness centrality. At 8 weeks, PWBS was positively correlated with closeness centrality. Intention to exercise maintenance was positively correlated with closeness centrality. Conclusion: The aquatic exercise program can be effective in increasing closeness centrality, psychological well-being, and intention to exercise maintenance. This was the first study attempted to analyze construction of member relationships in osteoarthritis patients participating an exercise program by using social network analysis.

  • As quickly becoming an ageing society in Korea, this study aims to investigate how family caregivers' burden with demented patients and social supports are related to their health and quality of life, and the interaction of caregiving burden and social supports on caregivers' health and quality of life. The participants were 207 family caregivers (106 females) of demented patients lived in Seoul, Kyunggi, and Chungcheong areas, whose average of age were 51.62 ( SD=9.25). The psychological tests used in this research included the following: Multidimensional Caregiver Burden Inventory, Chon's Physical Symptom Questionnaire, Hahn & Jang's Perceived Health Inventory, Negative Affect Self-Statement Questionnaire, and the Korean Version of Cambell's Subjective Well-being Scale, Social Support Survey in Medical Outcomes Study, and Kwon's Questionnaire for Maladjusted Problems of Demented. Results indicated that caregivers' burden with demented patient related to physical symptoms and depression positively, and perceived health and subjective well-being negatively. Social supports showed moderate effects on influences of caregiving burden in perceived health, depression, and subjective well-being of family caregivers with demented patients. It was identified the possibility of their buffering effect on negative results of caregiving burden with demented patients. Since caregiving burden accounted for the 34% of the variances for family caregivers' physical symptoms and depression, researchers discussed the promotion and intervention of their health and quality of life. Beside of different effects of social supports with level of caregiving burden, with previous studies it was discussed some saliant findings such as family caregivers with patients who showed severe dementia symptoms were perceiving even less supports from others.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors influencing psychosocial well-being in family caregivers of patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Methods: A descriptive correlational design was used. The transactional model of stress and coping was used to investigate the psychosocial well-being of 137 family caregivers of patients with ALS. Data were collected through self-reported questionnaires from January to November 2016. Data were analyzed using an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis with the SPSS WIN 21.0 program. Results: The regression model had an adjusted $R^2$ of .49, which indicated that meaning-focused coping, social support, ALS patient-family caregiver relationship (especially a spousal relationship), and tracheostomy were significant predictors of caregivers' psychosocial well-being. Conclusion: Meaning-focused coping and social support significantly influenced caregivers' psychosocial well-being. Therefore, interventions to improve caregivers' psychosocial well-being must focus on increasing meaning-focused coping and social support resources.
