  • This paper is concerned with development of system to detect an obstructive vehicle which is an essential prerequisite for autonomous driving system of ASV(Advanced Safety Vehicle). First, the boundary of driving lanes is detected by a Kalman filter through the front image obtained by a CCD camera. Then, lanes are recognized by regression analysis of the detected boundary. Second, parameters of road curvature within the detected lane are used as input in error-BP algorithm to recognize the driving direction. Finally, an obstructive vehicle that enters into the detection region can be detected through setting detection fields of the front and lateral side. The experimental results showed that the proposed system has high accuracy more than 90% in the recognition rate of driving direction and the detection rate of an obstructive vehicle.

  • The model ice is created at KRISO (Korea Research Institute for Ships and Ocean Engineering) ice basin where model ship is tested to obtain the necessary data in order to design the ice breaking vessels and ocean structures operating in the northern pole sea area. Through the model ship test, ice breaking, clearing, ice-ship and ice-propeller interaction behavior can be obtained. Since mechanical properties of ice plate are required for the model test, some tests are performed to obtain the properties in this paper. First, ultrasonic devide is used to measure the thickness of the model ice plate and the results show the possibility of using ultrasonic method, yet more sophisticated device or special sensors are required to measure the ice thickness completely. And the defection of ice plate is measured using LVDT to compute the characteristic length of ice plate on the fluid, which is used to get the effective Young's modulus of model ice.

  • Explosive bolt is one of separation device that uses high explosive charge, and is separated by pressure formed by an explosion and the resulting shock waves. Explosive bolt having such a mechanism would have to be designed to minimize shock and debris formation generated during separation. In this study, separation tests were carried out with distance as variable for restraining the explosive bolt (Air Gap). Bolt release and its separating shape with variation of air gap is observed, and we used accelerometer to measure the shock wave transmitted through a bound object. In addition, separation behavior of explosive bolt is analyzed using ANSYS AUOTODYN program. By comparing the results of previously performed experiments and analysis, we could confirm the effects of air gap to the release behavior of explosive bolt, and decide optimum constraining environment for specific separation bolts.

  • EBS started 2HD MMS experimental broadcasting for the first time in Korea on Feb. 11, 2015. It uses the picture compression technique based on MPEG-2 CODEC, and applies the result of the experiment about variable bit rates and changes according to the scanning types, 1080i and 720p. But when changing channels, the delay in displaying picture occurs because of the operation of the variable GOP on MMS broadcasting, which optimizes image quality by application variable bit rates. In this study, verified the relationship between the decoding time of I frames and the GOP set in the encoding step by experimenting and analyzing ON-AIR TS. By using the verification data and adjusts the Encoder GOP parameters, improved the different video display time delays according to the scanning mode 1080i and 720p.

  • Supersonic jet technology using high pressures has been popularly utilized in diverse industrial and engineering areas related to working fluids. In this study, to consider the effects of a shock wave caused by supersonic jet flow from a high pressure pipe, the SST turbulent flow model provided in the ANSYS FLUENT v.16 was applied and the flow characteristics of the pressure ratio and Mach number were analyzed in accordance with the working fluids (air, oxygen, and hydrogen). Before carrying out CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis, it was presumed that the inlet gas temperature was 300 K and pressure ratio was 5 : 1 as the boundary conditions. The density function was derived from the ideal gas law and the viscosity function was derived from Sutherland viscosity law. The pressure ratio along the ejection distance decreased more in the lower density working fluids. In the case of the higher density working fluids, however, the Mach number was lower. This shows that the density of the working fluids has a considerable effect on the shock wave. Therefore, the reliability of the analysis results were improved by experiments and CFD analysis showed that supersonic jet flow affects the shock wave by changing shape and diameter of the jet, pressure ratio, etc. according to working fluids.

  • In this paper, we propose accurate classification method of an EEG signals during a mental tasks. In the experimental task, subjects achieved through the process of responding to visual stimulus, understanding the given problem, controlling hand motions, and select a key. To recognize the subjects' selection time, we analyzed with 4 types feature from the filtered brain waves at frequency bands of $\alpha$, $\beta$, $\theta$, $\gamma$ waves. From the analysed features, we construct specific rules for each subject meta rules including common factors in all subjects. In this system, the architecture of the neural network is a three layered feedforward networks with one hidden layer which implements the error back propagation learning algorithm. Applying the algorithms to 4 subjects show 87% classification success rates. In this paper, the proposed detection method can be a basic technology for brain-computer-interface by combining with discrimination methods.

  • A numerical analysis has been conducted to determine the pitch thrust vectoring characteristics of a two-dimensional convergent divergent exhaust nozzle for supersonic aircraft application. The numerical analysis was done by using Fluent and verified by the experimental test results. Analysis was performed with pitch angle of $0^{\circ}$ and $20^{\circ}$ each at the ambient temperature condition. To see the effect of a ratio of pitch flap length and pitch flap height, the ratio was varied from 0.5 to 2.5. The numerical analysis shows that pitch thrust is changed greatly with pitch flap length. The big difference of the pitch thrust with pitch flap length is due to the shock interactions in the nozzle.

  • This paper proposes the way of improving learning speed in Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm using the principal submatrix of Jacobian matrix. The Levenberg-Marquardt learning uses Jacobian matrix for Hessian matrix to get the second derivative of an error function. To make the Jacobian matrix an invertible matrix. the Levenberg-Marquardt learning must increase or decrease ${\mu}$ and recalculate the inverse matrix of the Jacobian matrix due to these changes of ${\mu}$. Therefore, to have the proper ${\mu}$, we create the principal submatrix of Jacobian matrix and set the ${\mu}$ as the eigenvalues sum of the principal submatrix. which can make learning speed improve without calculating an additional inverse matrix. We also showed that our method was able to improve learning speed in both a generalized XOR problem and a handwritten digit recognition problem.

  • A new time adapted threshold using the standard deviations of Wavelet coefficients after Wavelet transform by frame scale is proposed. The time adapted threshold is set up using the sum of standard deviations of Wavelet coefficient in level 3 approximation and weighted level 1 detail. Level 3 approximation coefficients represent the voiced sound with low frequency and level 1 detail coefficients represent the unvoiced sound with high frequency. After reducing noise by soft thresholding with the proposed time adapted threshold, there are still residual noises in silent interval. To reduce residual noises in silent interval, a detection algorithm of silent interval is proposed. From simulation results, it can be noticed that SNR and MSE of the proposed algorithm are improved than those of Wavelet transform and than those of Wavelet packet transform.
