  • while they cannot overcome the limitation that arises in the process of representing the 3D real world to the 2D plane. Also, there exists requirements on performance to support realtime navigation capability.In this paper, therefore, we propose a cell loading algorithm for navigating virtual space that can support realtime visualization according to the multimedia objects in variety and the change of the view point by user, and that can accommodate the capacity imposed in the process of navigation regardless of the number of objects.

  • Most of the virtual space constructed sufficiently realistic need a lot of memory space to navigate smoothly. And this kind of virtual space also requires real-time responsibility for the navigation as well as realism. In the off-line virtual system, real-time responsibility can be resolved by using large scale if secondary memory. In the web-based online virtual system, on the other hand, real-time responsibility is highly related to the latency time of network data communication. This induces the necessity of the algorithm for fast data loading. In this paper, we propose and verify the validity of the two methodology for cell leading algorithm. According to the results of computer simulation, the algorithm using hexagonal type cell promotes the real-time responsibility over 30% than that of the rectangular type.

  • In this study, real-time character navigation using AR lens developed by Nreal is developed. Real-time character navigation is not possible with general marker-based AR because NPC characters must guide while moving in an unspecified space. To replace this, a markerless AR system was developed using Digital Twin technology. Existing markerless AR is operated based on hardware such as GPS, gyroscope, and magnetic sensor, so location accuracy is low and processing time in the system is long, which results low reliability in real-time AR environment. In order to solve this problem, using the SLAM technique to construct a space into a 3D object and to construct a markerless AR based on point location, AR can be implemented without any hardware intervention in a real-time AR environment. This real-time AR environment configuration made it possible to implement a navigation system using characters in tourist attractions such as Suncheon Bay Garden and Suncheon Drama Filming Site.

  • This paper presents algorithms for real-time navigation of a humanoid robot with a stereo vision but no other sensors. Using the algorithms, a robot can recognize its 3D environment by retrieving SIFT features from images, estimate its position through the Kalman filter, and plan its path to reach a destination avoiding obstacles. Our approach focuses on estimating the robot’s central walking path trajectory rather than its actual walking motion by using an approximate model. This strategy makes it possible to apply mobile robot localization approaches to humanoid robot localization. Simple collision free path planning and motion control enable the autonomous robot navigation. Experimental results demonstrate the feasibility of our approach.

  • The paper presents VDR system for efficiency of ocean navigation device and how to output and to save data using this system as well as compressed digital data and analog video output from the camera are utilized at the same time. The compressed digital data is used to store video for VDR device while analog video is used to display on screen in real-time so that VDR system saves the load on SD memory card without navigation terminal and output it with real-time video. Also, the control method using VDR system are proposed for saving and outputting data.

  • 여행자들은 여행 중 지도나 네비게이션 (Navigation) 어플리케이션을 종종 사용한다. 하지만 대부분의 지도 지도나 네비게이션 어플리케이션은 비용을 지불하고 네트워크를 사용하여야 하며 실시간으로 많은 지도 이미지를 보여주게 되어 네트워크 비용이 가중된다는 문제점이 있다. 또한, 이를 화면에 표시하기 위해 많은 배터리를 소모하는 문제를 가진다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 여행자들의 네트워크 비용 부담을 줄이고, 여행 중 충전이 어려운 스마트폰의 배터리 사용을 최소화 하는 방안을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 네트워크가 연결되지 않은 상태에서도 목적지를 안내해주는 안드로이드 기반 응용 프로그램으로, 본 논문에서는 이를 비네트워크 그린 네비게이션(Network-free Green Navi) 라고 명한다. 비네트워크 그린 네비게이션은 최소한의 발광 이미지를 사용하며 오직 GPS 센서만을 사용해 간단하게 목적지를 안내해준다. 이는 여행 중 문제가 되는 요소를 단순하지만 근본적으로 해결하였다는 점에서 큰 의미를 가진다.

  • The roadmap DB update for unknown roads is a very important factor for car navigation systems. In this paper, we propose a cloud computing based roadmap generation method for use between heterogeneous navigation system for unknown roads. While the drivers drive on unknown roads, the proposed method extracts the road attribute information, and then generates the metadata in an XML format that is available for the heterogeneous navigation systems in a cloud environment. The metadata is proposed to be used as a replacement for conventional proprietary roadmap formats which used by roadmap providers, which is efficient for heterogeneous navigation system providers in a cloud computing environment. Then, this metadata is provided to the roadmap DB providers through the cloud computing interfaces. With the proposed method, the roadmap DB providers update the own roadmap DB for navigation systems in real time. Therefore, the proposed method can reduce the costs of an actual traveling test and the maintenance for the roadmap DB provides. Thus, the cloud-oriented road map generation method can more efficiently update the unknown road information.

  • 영상기반 렌더링(image-based rendering)은 적은 비용으로 실시간 영상을 생성할 수 있다는 장점이 있지만, 원시 영상(source image)만으로 가상환경을 생성하기에는 부족하다. 원시 영상과 함께 카메라 정보, 깊이정보, 사용자 입력 등을 이용하는데, 적은 수의 원시 영상과 추가 정보를 이용하여 원하는 장면을 생성하기 위해 다양한 방법이 연구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 영상 기반의 가상환경에서 네비게이션을 위해 필요한 영상을 영상 참조기법을 통해 생성한다. 깊이가 깊지 않은 가상환경에서는 하나의 영상만으로도 이동 표현이 가능하지만 깊이가 깊을 경우 추가적인 영상을 필요로 하게 된다. 이 두 영상간의 새로운 영상을 모핑(morphing)을 통해 생성할 수도 있지만 사용자 입력이 많고 시간이 오래 걸린다는 단점이 있다. 영상 참조 기법은 가상환경에서 적은 사용자 입력으로 빠르게 네비게이션을 위한 영상을 생성할 수 있다.

  • 차량용 네비게이션에 사용되는 지도는 새로운 도로를 추가하거나 폐쇄된 도로를 삭제하는데 어려움을 겪는다. 이는 네비게이션 벤더에 의해 변경된 도로가 업데이트 되기 때문인데 벤더가 변경된 도로를 알아내기 위해서는 실제로 도로를 조사하는 등의 경비가 소모되므로 잦은 업데이트가 어렵다. 이런 문제를 해결하기 위해서 본 논문에서는 블루투스를 이용한 차량간 애드혹 네트워크를 이용해서 실시간으로 주변 도로의 형태를 생성하는 방법을 제안한다.

A Real-time Color Quantization Method for Virtual Environments Navigation System (가상환경 네비게이션 시스템을 위한 실시간 컬러 양자화 기술)

  • A navigation system for virtual environments using low-qualify HMD(head mounted display) must quantize images when the system presents true-color image with restricted number of colors. Such navigation system quantizes an image by using fixed palette. If the system represents an image by using a variable palette which is made considering a region around the viewpoint then user can perceive a virtual environments more vividly because human visual system is sensitive to the colors variation in the region around the viewpoint. In this paper we propose a color quantization algorithm that quantize a region around the viewpoint more finely than other regions at each variation of viewpoint for virtual environments navigation system and compose virtual environments navigation system using proposed algorithm. The system quantizes an image at each variation of viewpoint and shows a quantized image to user through HMD. We tested user preferences for our proposed system and the results show that users preferred our system.
