This study investigated the extend to which the facilities satisfactorily accommodate people with different disabilities and their specific needs for improving the facilities. Systematic interviews were conducted with 90 disabled people using the non-propertionate stratified cluster random sampling method. Frequency analysis, Chi-square tests, Duncan tests, and analysis of variance(ANOVA) were employed for data analysis. The findings indicated that the respondents' assessment of accommodations and needs for improving accommodations differed by the type of disabilities. People with physical disabilities were the least satisfied with stairs, followed by seating in stadiums and/or theaters. For people with visual disabilities, the lack of guidance and information facilities was the most difficult problem. People with hearing disabilities often pointed out difficulties in using public telephones. meanwhile, people with physical disabilities asked for easy access to assistive devices and improved mobility-related circumstances. yet people with visual disabilities expected to improve way-finding relevant issues, such as detectable warnings on walking surfaces and guidance and information facilities, whereas people with hearing disabilities desired to develop hearing-aid equipments, such as TDD and assistive listening systems.

The purposes of this study were to identify the needs for ubiquitous home services in residential environment of elderly single or elderly couple households living without children and also to analyze the differences of the needs according to their demographic and housing characteristics. For this study, a literature review and field works on ubiquitous home services for older people were performed. Also, 1 to 1 interview by using the questionnaire which was developed by the researchers in this study was conducted and 270 elderly residents in Seoul and Gyeonggi-Do were responded. Seventy-one ubiquitous service items which were adopted to home electronic appliances and furniture for older people were developed for 1 to 1 interview questionnaire. The major findings of the study were as follows: the elderly residents expressed highest need for ubiquitous home service items related to safety and health issues. Among ubiquitous service items applied to gas stove, vacuum cleaner, TV, telephone, sofa and toilet, the items related to safety and health aspects were most needed. And residents' income level and health status were the two major variables to show group differences in the need of ubiquitous home services. In other words, the elderly residents who were high income and frail tended to have the highest demand for ubiquitous home services adopted to home electronic appliances and furniture.

Most previous studies, in general, related to housing needs have analyzed the data from self-administered survey or interview using questionnaire or simple 2D floor plan. This study was Intended to suggest how to increase the reliability and effectiveness of such survey methods in examining the residents' housing needs. In order to accomplish the purpose, the two kinds of surveys using Web based VR media and typical questionnaire were peformed. The same questions were used for these two surveys, and they included the furniture characteristics, use of each room, adjustment of room size, preferences for interior colors, preferred furniture in living room, space layout of floor plan, housing life style, and preference for housing characteristics. The answer differences between these two were analyzed. The subjects were 402 housewives who lived in apartment houses in Haeundae, Busan. Finding were as follows: first, the media method was more likely to be effective than typical questionnaire survey in explaining housing needs for the adjustment of room size in housing unit plan. Second, the media method was more realistic and reliable than the other in comprehending the needs for the interior colors. Last, the VR media tended to be more effective than the other in understanding the space layout of floor plan. This research sheds light on the utilization of visual instrument for the analysis of needs related to space use.

This study investigates the mutual effects of the physical environment and the characteristics of user's need in the children's libraries of open plan type. The children's library as a flexible space should accept user's diverse needs. Especially, Children express more positive and diverse behaviors than adults in physical environment. As the design information obtained from observation of children's behaviors are put to architectural design, the more affluent environment in which children can do positive behaviors can be made. We used two research methods of the behavior observation and interview for the children's library, and could formulate various using actions through the behavior setting observation for using library. A relational description for reading environment in this study, based on the affordance and the behavior setting theories, provided us with rich accounts for the psychological and sociocultural resources in the children's library. Consequently, the following results can be summarized. First, children need territories for family use and for place and are using library effectively through taking the two territories. Second, the zoning according to age category should be done, as behavior patterns were observed differently according to age. Third, the space composition with openness should be designed, as children need social relation and learning through imitation and observation.

The objective of this paper is to propose rural housing planning guidelines by conducting a survey on the needs of the elderly people engaged in farming activities and looking into complaints about their houses targeting 120 people from 50s to 70s. The method employed was a survey with questionnaires. The survey results showed the needs of the elderly for the rural housing are different from those of general retired elderly people because they still engage in farming activities even if they grow old. The needs are as follows. First, the respondents show high preference for the foyer storage to store equipments and goods related to agriculture. Second, the respondents have needs for enough kitchen area accommodating their house work and rural life. Lastly, the respondents highly prefer well planned storehouses in the exterior. In addition, they also want the storehouses directly connected with the house because this plan can save their workforce. They recognize storehouses are the most poorly planned space in the rural house because of the unsatisfactory space area and interior space planning. These needs should be reflected on the planning of rural housing for the elderly engaged in farming activities.

The recent increase in elderly population poses various problems in the field of social infrastructure and the living environments for the aged. Providing enough housing for the elderly has become one of the fundamental goals in social welfare policies. In light of these current condition, it is necessary to understand the demands of the aged in terms of the standards of living conditions in which they would be satisfied in order to better serve them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to provide basic design data for architects and builders by analysing the demands and characteristics of residents in privately-owned housings for the elderly in Korea and Japav. The method of this research was based on the comparison analysis of polls taken in Korea and Japav. The results of this research are as follows: Because the polls show that the elderly want to continue their current life-style after placed in a elderly-care facility, when designing housing for the elderly, it must not be considered separate from the general society. it must be designed in way so that the residents can fully interact with the general society. Also, in order to achieve above goals, social welfare policies must be reconsidered to meet the needs of the aged populatiov.

현대 소비자들은 물질적 풍요와 함께 자신의 취향과 기호에 맞는 소비 제품을 선호하게 되었다. 따라서 이제는 기능, 품질, 가격만으로는 소비자들의 감성을 만족 시켜 줄 수 없으므로 소비자의 필요욕구(Needs), 또는 내재욕구(Seed)를 충족시킬 수 있는 제품 개발 기법이 요구되었다. 이에 대한 해결 방법의 하나의 대안으로 감성공학이라 할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서 선정된 제품은 자동차용 방향제 용기로 경제가 풍요로워짐에 따라 여유로운 생활을 하게 되면서 생겨난 신 자동차 문화 속에 자신의 내부를 '안락한' '쾌적한' 실내 환경을 요구하는 소비자들의 욕구 충족 기능으로서 실용품이자 액세서리로 등장한 제품이기 때문이다. 따라서 자동차용 방향제 용기 제품에 대하여 감성공학 방법에 의해 소비자가 제품에 대해 가지고 있는 감성 이미지를 추출함으로써 소비자에게 만족시킬 수 있는 디자인 방향 제시를 가능케 하였다.

Nurses in a children's hospital have to meet a special condition with their younger patients who need continuous supervision and cares. The planning of the ward where the nurse as well as the patient and his/her caregivers stay all day long should cover all the users need. This study focused on the nurse's need for the ward in children's hospital. The nurse stay longer than any users in hospital and their treatment have to be based on deep understanding of their patients. The survey research followed the literature review on the children's hospital and the nurses' task and behavior. 119 nurses answered the structural questionnaire and their answers were analyzed using the statistical process such as basic descriptive statistics, ANOVA, and actor analysis. Results and conclusions are as follows. (1) The subjects least satisfied with the accessibility for the children and the nature-and child-friendly design features among physical environment design factors of the hospital. (2) The Subject regarded the patients' room to a private place of the patients and their caregivers not to the work places. (3) The design factors of the nursing station were classified into four: the functionality-, the privacy-, the supervision-and the restfulness-factor. The functionality and supervision factor were highly required as a workplace, the privacy factor between the patients, their caregivers and subject were also represented high score, but the restfulness factor were least required.

현대의 문화시설은 건축물과 도시 환경을 근거로 한 디자인 접근과 관련 공연 프로그램의 다양화 및 세계화를 지향한다. 이러한 문화시설은 지역 문화 홍보와 국가의 특징적 문화형태를 보존 발전시키는데 중요한 역할을 한다. 따라서 도시 및 지역 환경과 문화적 특성을 반영하는 문화공간의 제공은 현대 도시 환경에서 필수적 조건이다. 또한 현대의 문화시설은 관객의 능동적이고 자발적인 문화 참여와 관객과 공연인의 상호교류의 기회와 공간을 제공하여야 한다. 이러한 기능 제공을 위해서는 문화시설을 형성하는 공간 기능의 차별화 정책이 필요하다. 간 공간들의 철저한 기능 분리, 차별화 된 문화 컨텐츠와 프로그램의 기획으로 자체적 관객층을 형성하며 기능성과 환경 조건을 반영한 시각적으로 특색 있는 건물디자인 계획의 실행이 요구된다. 이러한 디자인 계획은 결과적으로 대중들에게 중복되지 않는 내용의 문화프로그램을 접촉할 수 있는 기회론 증진시키며 단순한 집객 기능을 넘어선, 다양한 문화의 광범위한 공유를 위한 문화공간의 역할의 수행이라는 디자인 원리와 철학이 문화시설의 디자인에 실질적으로 반영됨을 의미한다. 즉, 문화시설의 디자인 과정에서는 무엇보다 도시 환경에 대한 적극적인 반영 및 문화시설 디자인에 대한 전문적인 검토과정이 요구된다. 실내 광장이나 야외 광장을 축으로 각기 다른 기능의 문화공간들이 자체적 기능을 수행함과 동시에 갈 공간의 상호교류, 무대시설, 조명, 및 음향 등 각 분야의 전문가들과의 자문을 거침으로써 공연 공간 및 무대시설의 다양하고 복잡한 기능성이 보다 효과적으로 구현될 것이다.

2000년 공공도서관에 대한 정보화 사업의 일환으로 디지털자료 전용공간이 대다수의 도서관에 마련되었지만 획일적인 디자인으로 인해 이용자의 다양한 행위를 수용하기에는 부족한 실정이다. 본 연구는 공공도서관 디지털공간의 공간계획요소에 대한 문헌 및 설문조사를 통하여 디지털 세대 이용자의 새로운 요구에 대응하기 위하여 공공도서관 이용자가 정보활동 시 중요하다고 생각하는 공간계획요소에 대한 중요도평가를 실시하였다. 중요도 평가를 위하여 1차적으로 각 기관의 도서관 기준 및 평가지표, 선행연구를 분석하여 50개의 요소가 도출되었고 이를 이용자 150명에게 설문조사 하였다. 중요도의 평균값 이상 도출된 요소를 중심으로 요인분석을 실시하였으며 비슷한 성격의 요소들 간의 상관성을 파악하여 요인별 공간계획요소를 분류하고자 하였다. 연구결과 계획적요인, 디자인적요인, 심리적요인, 기술적요인 총 4개의 요인으로 분류되었다. 이와 같은 요인별 디지털공간계획요소들을 평가도구로 하여 차후 공공도서관 공간평가와 이용자 만족도 조사를 실시함으로서 구체적인 공간계획방안 마련에 기초자료가 될 수 있을 것이다.
