Impatiens violascens (Balsaminaceae): A new species from Korea (꼬마물봉선: 한국에서 발견된 물봉선속(봉선화과)의 1신종)

  • Herein is described a new species of Impatiens violascens B.U. Oh & Y.Y. Kim (Balsaminaceae) discovered on Bohyeon Mountain in Yeongcheon-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Korea. The new species is distinct from a closely-related species, I. textorii, by having a flower half the size that of I. textorii, sharply narrowed lower sepal, one half- to one time-coiled spur, and distal lobes of elliptical type laterally united petals. The key to these two species is provided.

  • A new species of Halacaridae, Copidognathus koreanus is recorded from the Korean coast mostly among intertidal coralline algae. The present new species comes close with C.auroroe Newell, C.curtus (Hall), C.richardi (Trouessart) and C.unolaskensis Newell. Morphological similarities and dissimilarities among them are discussed. This is the first report on the marine halacarid mite from Korea.

  • A new species of Corydalis sect. Corydalis (Fumariaceae), C. namdoensis B.U. Oh et J.G. Kim, is described from the central and southern part of Korea. The new species is distinct from its close relative C. albipetala in having very variable leaf shapes, broadly flattened fusiform fruits, seed arrangement nearly in two rows in capsule, V-shaped inner petal apex and limited distribution area.

  • A new species of Eranthis (Ranunculaceae), E. pungdoensis B.U. Oh is described from Pung-do, Ansan-si, Gyeonggi-do in Korea. The new species is distinct from E. byunsanensis, its closely relative species, in having broad funnelform petals, 2.5-3.7 mm long, 2.4-3.5 mm wide and restricted distributional area.

  • A new species, Euseius ulleungensis sp. nov. is described from Korea. The new species was collected on Aster glehni Fr. Schm. at Jeodong, Ulleung-up, Ulleung-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do.

  • A new taxon, Viola ramiflora K. O. Yoo (Violaceae), from Jeju-do is described and illustrated. V. ramiflora shares several characteristics (pale purple flowers; triangular-ovate, ovate, or oblong leaf blades; winged petioles) with the related species V. hirtipes, V. japonica, V. phalacrocarpa, and V. seoulensis. However, this new species has branched cleistogamous and chasmogamous peduncles and oblong-ovate cleistogamous bracteoles.

  • An oribatid mite, Incabates barbatus sp. nov. in the family Haplozetidae is described herein from Korea. This new species is very similar to 1. major reported in Japan. However, prodorsal setae (ro & la) and head of sensillus are smooth in 1. major while barbs are found on the outer margin in the middle of rostral seta (ro) and lamellar seta (la) in addition to the presence of spinulae making the surface of head of sensillus rough in the new species. There are altogether 9 species described in the genus Incubates at present including the new species reported herein and keys to these 9 species are presented.

  • Eight species of the water mites of the genus Aturus are described from Korea. Five are new to science, and these are: A. multiclovus n. sp., A. kumariensis n. sp., A. multisetus n. sp., A. pilosus n. sp. and A parapilosus n. sp. In addition, A. caudatus and A. miyozakii are reported for the first time from this country. One unnamed species is also included. All the species are described on the basis of males.
