  • The rapid increases in global energy demand and global warming need renewable energy sources such as solar thermal energy, biomass energy and waste heat. A ORC-based micro-CHP system(< 10 kWe) is one of the effective means to use renewable energy and solve energy problems because of its compactness, flexibilities and lower cost compared to other systems. The most important core components of the ORC is the expander which has a strong effect on the cycle efficiency. In the range of power output from 1 to 10 kW, the scroll expander is a good choice due to its performance and reliability. In this study, we have carried out an experimental study on an ORC equipped with oil-free scroll expander working with refrigerant R134a. We have measured power output and thermal efficiencies of the ORC and analyzed correlation between volumetric efficiencies of the expander and thermal efficiencies of the ORC.

  • In this study, energy performance analysis of houses in zero energy demonstration town(ZeT) was carried out using the monitoring results. This ZeT was composed 29 zero energy individual houses(ZeH) which were applied passive as well as active technologies. The results are as follows. (1) Residents are generally considered to have been lacking basic mind to save energy, (2) In particular, average yearly total energy consumption per house is 12,834 kWh and specific heating energy is $53.2kWh/m^2{\cdot}yr$ which is higher than that of passive house. This is because of one of the reason just pointed out in subsection (1). (3) Most part of the residual energy load are supplied with only renewable energy, but not operating energy for geothermal heat pump which is use of cheap electricity.

  • The increasingly high prices for oil, the exhaustion of fossil fuels as well as concern about global warming are driving rapid growth of alternative sources of energy in the world. The active solution for global environment and exhaustion of energy sources is to develop and popularize the technologies to use natural energy such as sunlight, wind, and water. PV(Photovoltaic) modules are efficient devices that has been considered a logical material for use in buildings. Recent advanced BIPV(Building Integrated PV) technology have rapidly made PVs suitable for direct integration into construction in the world. Recently, building has been higher and higher. Tall buildings have many advantages for BIPV such as wide facade area and no shading effect by the surrounding buildings. However. BIPV has not been applied for tall building facade yet. Therefore, the purpose of the research is to develop suitable BIPV for tall buildings and to put these technologies to practical use. Therefore, the purpose of the study is to investigate unification of BIPV to curtain wall to apply BIPV on tall building through research into advanced application of overseas BIPV cases.

  • As our government is actively introducing the RPS (Renewable Portfolio Standards) as a national renewable energy obligation policy, power producers are using the various renewable energy to meet the RPS supply quota since 2012. Recently, it is appling to use power bio-fuel oil in bio-fuel oil demonstration project with power companies. In general, power bio-fuel oils are composed of mixture products of vegetable oil, animal fat, fatty acid ester and waste oil. It is already developing for a power plant as a renewable energy abroad. In Korea, it is studying a 100% combustion and blended combustion of heavy fuel oil and bio-fuel oil. In this study, we investigated fuel characteristics of mixed power bio-fuel oil and its emission performance. Especially, it was reduced emissions of bio-oil in industrial boilers due to bio-fuel properties as compare with fuel oil.

  • Power system for renewable energy is composed of module, transform DC power into AC power inverter, control power flow and device for a charge of the grid-connected. Power system for renewable energy produce the most DC power, when this system is much insolation in summer and daytime. But if the certain temperature rises above, the essential grid-connected power inverter is take a nose dive. There, in this paper, we propose an improved reduction of heating system. In addition, selection of the most serious heat region and through analysis of temperature characteristics according to location and distance derive the optimal model.

  • In order to increase the generation of renewable energy, it is necessary to increase or decrease the generation amount of existing generators. The generators that respond rapidly to increase / decrease the generation amount generally have high generation cost. Therefore, Cost effectiveness is affected. In this paper, we propose a PV remote control system with big data to minimize the uncertainty of solar power generation prediction.

  • Since the characteristics of Renewable Energy Sources like wind turbine generators are very different from those of existing thermal power generators and their response to the sudden change of the frequency are not as good as that from thermal power generators. Especially when the penetration level of the wind power generation is substantially high, the output from the WTG would be possibly limited to keep the stability of power systems. For this, this paper implements the process for calculating the dynamic penetration limit of WTG and analyze the potential application of BESS for increasing the dynamic penetration limit of WTG.

  • Robust optimal operation of a microgrid is required since the increase of the penetration level of renewable generators in the microgrid raises uncertainty due to their intermittent power output. In this paper, an application of probabilistic optimization method to economical operation of a microgrid is studied. To simplify the treatment of the uncertainties of renewable generations and load, the new 'band of virtual equivalent load variation' is introduced considering their uncertainties. A simplified robust optimization methodology to generate the scenarios within the band of virtual equivalent load variation and to obtain the optimal solution for the worst scenario is presented based on Monte Carlo method. The microgrid to be studied here is composed of distributed generation system(DGs), battery systems and loads. The distributed generation systems include combined heat and power(CHP) and small generators such as diesel generators and the renewable energy generators such as photovoltaic(PV) systems and wind power systems. The modeling of the objective function for considering interruption cost by the penalty function is presented. Through the case study for a microgrid with uncertainties, the validity of proposed robust optimization methodology is evaluated.

  • As the interest in environmental pollution increases acknowledging that interrelated energy and environment problem, the use of renewable energy is uprising. Among the renewable energy resource, Wind and Solar energy has no environmental impact and use unlimited resource. Solar power is not available during the night time, the wind power can be used as a natural supplement Data of irradiance and wind speed recorded in average day for years are used. These data are used to obtain the probability average power of wind and solar systems. In this paper, A technique that can lay the foundation fot building the wind and solar power systems of a southwest area in a optimal way.

  • In recent years, many researchers and developers have been interested in renewable energy all over the world. Particularly, the development of wind power is being processed actively due to its high economic efficiency. A few years ago, Korean government has started the research for building a large-scale offshore wind farm in domestic west-southern area. Current domestic SCADA technology level for operating wind farm is very low compared with foreign SCADA technology level. In this paper, we found IT issues and solutions for developing SCADA system. Based on these solutions, we designed SCADA system for a large-scale offshore wind farm.
