Separation process of heavy minerals was performed with sand from Dunjang beach of Jaeundo, Shinangun, Chonnam, and the feasibility study separating heavy minerals was carried out, and their properties were studied. Samples were selected in three parts, which were upper part, middle part and lower part, with depth. Samples of heavy mineral groups separated with the spiral separator were chosen as starting materials, and they were separated with 3 times of table separation. Heavy minerals presenting in this area were ilmenite, zircon, rutile, anatase, monazite, and xenotime. In the results of 3 times of table separation, minor content of quartz, orthoclase, albite and muscovite were existed as gangue minerals. Accordingly, we concluded that additional specific gravity separation was needed. In the results of separation of heavy minerals by hand picking, it was confirmed that heavy minerals had various genesis because of their various roundness and color.
A total of 10 islands (Kumodo and Komundo in Yeosu City; Oinarodo in Goheung County; Chongsando, Soando, and Pogildo in Wando County; Chodo in Jindo County; Uido, Huksando, and Hongdo in Shinan County) were surveyed to confirm distribution of naturalized plants from June 2006 to December 2008. A total of 100 naturalized plants taxa from 25 families were recorded. The highest number of naturalized plant species (82 taxa) was recorded on Oinarodo, while the lowest number was recorded on Hongdo (42 taxa) and on Uido (34 taxa). A total of 26 naturalized species taxa (such as Dactylis glomerata, Lolium perenne, Bromus unioloides, Rumex obtusifolius, Chenopodium album, Phytolacca americana, Barbarea vulgaris, Lepidium apetalum, Robinia pseudo-acacia, Trifolium repens, Erigeron annuus, Erigeron canadensis, Senecio vulgaris, Xanthium strumarium) was recorded in all study areas. Distribution of naturalized plants were categorized into 7 habitat types based on ecological traits: afforested land, beach, port, and vacant land, road boundary, road cut and slope area, waste arable land, landfill area, and wetland. Systematic management is required to conserve unique landscape, species diversity, vegetation and ecosystem of Dadohae National Park. In order to manage the naturalized plants in Dadohae National Park, basic surveys are most needed to understand distribution and dispersal of naturalized plants communities based on ecological features of each habitat type.
Shinan-gun in Jeollanam-do has 1,004 islands which is the biggest number in the whole country. As most of the islands in Korea are secluded from the mainland or other islands, biological surveys are very important for the biogeographical perspective. Especially, the species diversity of insecta on an island plays an important role in the food stability of top predators, including birds. This study provides baseline academic resources for the preservation and management of uninhabited islands by providing information about the status of insects on the uninhabited islands in Docho-myeon, Jeollanam-do, Korea. As far as the appearance aspects of the insects in 28 uninhabited islands were 921 individuals, 122 species, 60 families or 12 orders. Ga Island showed the highest appearance as 32 species, 22 families or 9 orders. Appearance of specific insects was investigated unknown species: 1 species, southern characteristic species: 3 species, coastal dune species: 1 species, climate-sensitive indicator species: 1 species.
An epidemiological survey was performed to know the infection status of oysters with Gwmnophclloides seoi metacercariae in 7 islands of the West Sea known as the habitat of paleartic oystercatchers . Hcemntopus ostralegus osculans, in Korea. The surveyed areas were Aphaedo (Shinan-gun. Chollanam-do) Jangiado, Sonyudo and Munyodo (Okdo-myon, Kunsan-shi, Chollabuk-do), Yubudo (Changhang-up, Sochon-gun Chungchongnam-do), and Polumdo and Chumoondo (Sodo-myon, Kangwha-gup, Inchon ski). The oysters collected from Aphaedo, the known endemic focus, were examined monthly from August 1995 to October 1996 for observation of any seasonal variation of the metacercarial density. The average metacercarial burden was 761-2,077 by month, but the seasonal variation of the metacercarial density was not obvious. A total of 54 metacercariae was detected in 63 oysters collected from Yubudo. Out of 30 oysters from Sonyudo, 25 (83.3%) were infected with 1-66 metacercariae (12.6 in average). All of 50 oysters (100%) from Munyodo were infected with 3-162 metacercariae (53.5 in average), Only 4 metacercariae were detected in 100 oysters from Chumoondo. However, no metacercariae were found in 55 oysters from .Tangjado and 50 oysters from Polumdo. From the above results, it was confirmed that G. seoi is still highly prevalent in oysters from Aphaedo, and several islands of the West Sea known as the habitats of paleartic oystercatchers are new endemic areas of this fluke.

Tourism projects through islands in the waters of Sinan-gun became active, and as a result, a total of 13 marine bridges connecting islands were completed. However, the marine bridge constructed in the fairway is dangerous for traffic. Particularly, in the case of the marine bridge connecting two islands, the width of the fairway is extremely narrow, therefore the risk is higher. In this study, we evaluated the risk of collision between marine bridge piers and ships using the IALA Waterway Risk Assessment Program (IWRAP), a risk assessment model for port waterways, based on a maritime traffic survey on the coastal bridge in Sinan-gun. The results, indicated that No.1 Sinan bridge had the highest probability of collision and most of the transit ships were coastal passenger ships. In addition, No.1 Sinan bridge was the place where the most collision accidents occurred among the marine bridge piers in the target sea, and the cause this study was analyzed. An analysis of the satellite images of the sea environment of No.1 Sinan bridge using an image processing method, confirmed that obstacles that could not be seen in the chart existed nearby the bridge. As a result, traffic was observed to be concentrated in one direction, unlike two-way traffic, which is a method of inducing traffic of bridges to avoid obstacles. The risk cause analysis method using the image processing technique of this study is expected to be used as a basic research method for analyzing the risk factors of island bridge in the future.
We report a unrecorded species, Da-do-sae-u-nan-cho (Calanthe ${\times}$ kibanakirishima F. Maek). It was discovered on Heuksan Island in Jeollanam Province. The species differs from C. aristulifera in the corolla color and the short, wide spur. It is also easily distinguished from the other species of Calanthe by the simple trichomes on the abaxial surface of its leaves and spur.
We investigated butterfly species diversity on nineteen uninhabited islands around Imja-myeon, Shinan-gun, Jeonnam, Korea. A total of 14 species belong to 5 families were identified. Species of Papilionidae were the most abundant with 5 species, followed by Lycaenidae (4 species). A Lycaenid butterfly, Pseudozizeeria maha (Kollar), was the most dominant species on the surveyed islands. The total number of species was the highest at island Daenorokdo (6 species). To investigate the factors that determine butterfly diversity, we analyzed the relationships between number of species and island area, distance from the largest island nearby, and maximum elevation. We found that island area ($R^2$=0.413, p=0.003) was significantly correlated with butterfly diversity, but other variables such as distance from the largest island nearby and maximum elevation were not correlated.
This study investigated the flora and the main vegetation of naturalized plants in order to compare the change of distribution in Limja Island, South Korea from 1999 to July, 2005. Flora of naturalized plants in surveyed site were the 1st survey 1999 year, 14 families 45 taxa, the 2nd survey 2005 year, total 14 families 54 taxa including 53 species 1 variety. which new 9 taxa included as Eragrostis curvula, Festuca myuros, Panicum dichotomiflorum, Atriplex hastata, Abutilon avicennae, Aster subulatus, Coreopsis lanceolata, Cosmos sulphureus, Cerastium glomeratum, etc. By the community table, the main vegetation communities in the surveyed sites were classified as Phytolacca americana, Rumux crispus, Bromus catharticus, Erigeron annuus - Erigeron canadensis, Oenothera odorata, Paspalum distichum, Festuca myuros, Cosmos sulphureus community. it is believed that the species of naturalized plants have increased compared to other areas due to their close location to the living habitation.
We surveyed the moth fauna on Is. Aphae-do, Sinan-gun, Jeollanam-do from March to September 2006 to investigate moth diversity and basic faunal data for ecosystem change on the Island. Three hundred thirty-nine moth species, which comprised 16 families and 241 genera, were recognized. The most dominant species was a pyralid moth, Endotricha olivacealis (116 indivs.). Common species included Chiasmia hebesata, Agnidra scabiosa, and Sophta ruficeps. Two hundred-one species (59.2%) were collected only once during investigation period. The family Noctuidae with 129 species was dominant in the area followed by Geometridae (81 species) and Pyralidae (38 species). Based on number of collected individuals, Geometridae was highest and followed by Noctuidae, Pyralidae and Sphingidae.
The flora of Is. Gageodo (N $34^{\circ}02^{\prime}{\sim}34^{\circ}05^{\prime}$, E $125^{\circ}05^{\prime}{\sim}125^{\circ}08^{\prime}$) in Sinangun (Province Jeollanamdo) was surveyed from April 2010 to October 2011. The vascular plants from the results of 23 field surveys were revealed as 385 taxa; in total 98 families, 258 genera, 348 species, three subspecies, 31 varieties and four forms. Fifty taxa were the first records in this region. The plants in various categories were discovered in this study. The number of Korean endemic plants were 7 taxa, and 8 taxa designated by Korean Forest Service as rare plants were investigated in this region. The plants above the third degree among the floristic regional indicator plants designated by Korean Ministry of Environment were 30 taxa. In addition, 28 taxa of the naturalized plants were recorded.
