Estimation of Individual Leaf Area, Fresh and Dry Weights of Cucumber by Regression Model and Neural Network (회귀모델과 신경회로망에 의한 오이 개개 엽면적, 생체중 및 건물중 예측)

  • 작물의 엽면적 등 다양한 생육정보를 간편하고 비파괴적으로 추정할 수 있다면 작물의 생리 생태학적 모델에의 적용을 통하여 다양한 작물 연구에 중요한 공헌을 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 오이 개개 잎의 형태정보를 이용하여 오이의 개개 엽면적, 생체중 및 건물중 예측하는 것을 목적으로 하였고, 이를 위하여 엽면적은 5가지 모델을 사용하였고, 생체중 및 건물중은 6가지의 모델을 사용하여 분석하였다. 또한 신경회로망은 3 layer의 back propagation method를 사용하여 분석하였다. 각 모델들은 독립변수로는 Robinson & Pharr이 사용한 개개 잎의 폭 및 길이를 사용하였다. 회귀모델에 의한 추정 결과, 모델의 정확성 및 정밀성은 엽면적 > 생체중 > 건물중 순 이었지만, 특히 건물중의 경우는 상대적으로 낮은 상관관계를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. 회귀모델을 사용하여 건물중 추정하는 것에는 한계가 있는 것으로 생각되며, 신경회로망도 이와 유사한 관계를 나타냈지만 다양한 변수 수정을 통하여 상관계수를 증가시킬 수 있을 것이라고 생각된다.

  • Trigeminal sensory neuropathy is a clinical diagnosis in which the main feature is facial numbness limited to territory of one or more sensory branches of the trigeminal nerve. We describe a 46-year-old woman who presented with left facial numbness in the territories of maxillary nerve and mandibular nerve. MRI disclosed a lesion in left trigeminal nerve root entry zone. In Blink test stimulating infraorbital foramen, ipsilateral R1 was delayed compared with contralateral R1. Lesion in pons or medulla can present as trigeminal sensory neuropathy.

A case of Idiopathic Bilateral Brachial Neuritis Involving the Bilateral Phrenic Nerves (양측 횡격막신경을 침범한 원인불명의 양측 상완신경염 1예)

  • Bilateral brachial neuritis is clinically uncommon and accidentally involvement of bilateral phrenic nerves is rarely reported. We experienced a 26 year old man who developed subacute onset of asymmetric bilateral shoulder and arm weakness. The weakness slowly aggravated and finally suffered from dyspnea due to bilateral phrenic nerve palsy. Cervical spine MRI and CSF study showed no abnormality. Viral markers and other serological test showed no specific finding. Electromyographic study showed bilateral brachial axonal polyneuropathy with cervical and upper thoracic polyradiculopathy. And bilateral phrenic nerve conduction study showed no resopnse. He showed no improvement for 10 months after treatment and managed with continuous artificial ventilation. We report a case of idiopathic bilateral brachial neuritis accidentally involving bilateral phrenic nerves.

  • 난소의 재형성 과정은 난소 내 여러 조절인자들에 의해 조절되는 성장 및 퇴행 과정을 반복하는 특징을 가지고 있다. 황체는 주기적 성장과 퇴행을 보이며 과립세포의 세포자멸사 (apoptosis)를 통해 황체의 퇴행이 일어나게 된다지. 이러한 세포자멸사 과정은 난소의 정상 생리에 매우 중요하다. ATP 는 자율신경으로부터 세포외 유출을 통해 분비되어 근육 수축, 신경전달체계, 외분비 및 내분비 호르몬의 분비, 면역반응, 염증, 혈소판 응집, 동통 및 심장기능의 조절 등 매우 다양한 생물학적 기능에 영향을 미친다. 이러한 작용은 세포 표변에 존재하는 purinoceptor를 통해 이루어지는 것으로 알려져 있다. ATP는 일반적으로 세포 내에서는 에너지원으로서 작용하나 세포외부에 존재하는 ATP의 경우에는 조절물질로 작용하여 어떤 세포에 있어서는 세포용해를 일으키기도 하며, 어떤 세포에서는 세포자멸사를 유발하기도 한다. 세포 내에 존재하는 ATP는 세포의 주요한 에너지원으로 사용되며 살아있는 세포에서는 세포막을 통과하지 못하는 반면 세포 외에 존재하는 ATP는 말초신경계 혹은 중추신경계에 있어서 매우 중요한 신경전달물질로 작용하고 있다.   • Multiple cranial and peripheral neuropathies as a delayed sequellae of ethylene glycol poisoning is a less well known clinical entity and its information about long-term electrophysiological and clinical outcomes is limited. We report a 45-year-old male who presented with acute renal failure and subsequently developed multiple cranial neuropathy, respiratory failure, and flaccid tetraparesis. Through sequential electrophysiological studies, we would like suggest that the main pathophysiology of ethylene glycol-related neuropathy is a demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy with secondary axonal degeneration.

  • Nerve compression of the suprascapular nerve by a suprascapular notch occasionally occurs, but compression by a ganglion is very rare. We had experienced a case of compression of the suprascapular nerve by ganglionic cyst at the suprascapular notch, which confirmed by electromyographic studies after the diagnosis was suspected. MRI scan showed multilobulated ganglionic cyst at the right suprascapular notch. The patient was treated by excision of the ganglion and had excellent result.

Rim1α and Neurexin3 Regulate Synaptosomal Dopamine Release (Rim1α와 neurexin3의 시냅토좀 도파민 분비 조절)

  • Neurotransmitter release is regulated by various proteins of the active zone in the presynaptic nerve terminals. Dopamine (DA) is an essential neurotransmitter associated with the pathophysiology of diverse behavioral and mental illness such as schizophrenia and drug addiction. We measured synaptosomal DA release of knockout (KO) mice which lacked major genes related to neurotransmitter release. Synaptosomal DA uptake and release were performed and measured using [$^3H$]-DA and superfusion experiments. 3 of the 17 KO mice exhibited altered DA release compared to their littermate controls. In $Rim1{\alpha}$ KO, [$^3H$]-DA release evoked by membrane depolarization significantly decreased. Both basal (physiological buffer-evoked) and membrane depolarization-evoked DA release significantly decreased in dopaminergic conditional KO of $Rim1{\alpha}{\beta}$. Dopaminergic conditional KO of neurexin3 demonstrated a significant increase of membrane depolarization-evoked DA release. These data explain the similarities and distinctions between DA and other classical neurotransmitters such as glutamate and GABA ($\gamma$-aminobutyric acid) release. In conclusion, $Rim1{\alpha}$ and neurexin3 may be important regulators of presynaptic DA release and related to disorders of the nervous system.

ELECTROPHYSIOLOGICAL AND MORPHOLOGICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF FACIAL NUCLEUS IN RAT (흰쥐 안면신경핵 세포의 전기생리학적 및 형태학적 특성)

  • This study used in vivo intracellular and extracellular field potential recording to evaluate the intrinsic membrane properties and connection pattern within facial nucleus. 1. There were four subdivisions of medial, intermediate, lateral, and dorsolateral in facial nucleus. 2. Principal cells in the facial nucleus was recorded from and filled with neurobiotin in anesthetized rats. The extent of their dendrites and the characteristics of cell body were examined. 3. Principal cells had a large amplitude action potential and afterhyperpolarization was followed a single action potential. 4. The response from facial motonucleus to electrical stimulation of the facial nerve was mainly a monophasic wave, with a latency of 1 msec, which was assumed to reflect antidromic activation of facial motoneurons. In some of rats the response in addition showed late components at a latency of about 7-8 msec, but its amplitude was small. 5 Most of cells exhibited accommodation of spike discharge upon depolarization of membrane by 0.8 nA for 400 ms. Our results support the hypothesis that there normally are weak connections between different parts of the facial motonucleus to explain pathophysiology of hemifacial spasm and facial naive paralysis.

Temporal and Spatial Characteristics of Visual and Somatosensory Integration in Normal Adult Brain (정상성인의 시각 및 촉각 통합 작용 시 뇌신경세포의 전기생리적활동의 시간 및 공간적 특성: 예비실험)

  • Objective : Multisensory integration (MSI) is the essential process to use diverse sensory information for cognitive task or execution of motor action. Especially, visual and somatosensory integration is critical for motor behavior and coordination. This study was designed to explain spatial and temporal characteristics of visual and somatosensory integration by neurophysiological research method that identifies the time course and brain location of the SI process. Methods : Electroencephalography (EEG) and event-related potential (ERP) is used in this study in order to observe neural activities when integrating visual and tactile input. We calculate the linear summation (SUM) of visual-related potentials (VEPs) and somatosensory-related potentials (SEPs), and compared the SUM with simultaneously presented visual-tactile ERPs(SIM) Results : There were significant differences between the SIM and SUM in later time epochs (about 200-300ms) at contralateral somatosensory areas (C4) and occipital cortices (O1&O2). The amplitude of the SIM was mathematically larger than the summed signals, implying that the integration made some extra neural activities. Conclusion : This study provides some empirical neural evidence of that multisensory integration is more powerful than just combing two unisensory inputs in the brain and ERP data reveals neural signature relating to multisensory integrative process. Since this study is preliminary pilot study, larger population and criteria are needed for level of the significance. Further study is recommended to consider issues including effect of internally-driven attention and laterality of interaction to make the evidence by this study solid.

Development of Healthcare Bathing System for Improving the Multisensory Functions (복합감각 기능증진 개념의 헬스케어 목욕시스템 개발)

  • This paper proposes healthcare bathing system for improving the multisensory function and not washing. We designed various types of bathtub for developing bathing system. This system consists of whirlpool bathtub for multisensory stimulation, a cover of bathtub with visual-auditory stimulation function, a small size PC for main control, touch panel, digital multimedia broadcasting (DMB), color-changeable LED mood lighting system for improving visual sensibility and speaker. We investigate the effects on autonomic nervous system during bathing with healthcare bathing system for improving the multisensory functions. To analysis physiological parameter, body temperature, blood pressure, intraocular pressure and heart rate variability (HRV) were measured before, during and after bath using healthcare bathing system. Experiments were performed on partial immersion bath and the water temperature was kept $39{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$. The body temperature and the heart rate variability of the subject were measured every 5 minutes before, during, and after the bath. In analysis of HRV, the parasympathetic nerve increased from starting bath and decreased after 15 minutes. So the subjects felt comfortable at 15 minutes after starting bath. Blood pressure decreased to 16mmHg maximumly however pulse increased. Bath using healthcare bathing system for improving the multisensory functions affects positively the circulation of the blood. From this results, it leaves something to be desired in evaluation of serviceability and physiological analysis using the healthcare bathing system, however, we expect to analyze more clearly the relationship between the serviceability of product, physiological change and sensibility by various physiological parameters.
