To investigate the vegetation structure of mountain region from Wolgagsan to Dogabjae, 14 plots($2000m^2$) set up with random sampling method were surveyed. Two groups of Quercus variabilis-Pinus densiflora community, Quercus mongolica-Quercus acutissima community were classified by cluster analysis. Quercus variabilis, Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica, Quercus acutissima, Quercus dentata and Quercus serrata were found as a major woody plant species in Weolchulsan National Park region. In this area, Quercus variabilis and Pinus densiflora were dominated partially. In the future, the importance percentage of Pinus densiflora might be decreased, but those of Quercus variabilis, Quercus mongolica, Quercus acutissima and Quercus dentata might be increased. High positive correlations was proved between Quercus variabilis and Pinus rigida; Styrax japonica and Quercus dentata, Quercus acutissima; Pinus rigida and Lindera erythrocarpa, Pinus densiflora; Lindera obtusiloba and Rhododendron mucronulatum; Albizzia julibrissin and Styrax obassia, and relatively high negative correlations was proved between Diospyros kaki and Quercus dentata; Platycarya strobilacea and Lindera erythrocarpa; Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa and Quercus acutissima; Styrax japonica and Styrax obassia; Pinus rigida and Lindera obtusiloba, Fraxinus sieboldiana, Rhododendron mucronulatum; Quercus mongolica and Albizzia julibrissin. Species diversity(H') of investigated groups was ranged $1.2430{\sim}1.2892$.
In order to clarify the species composition, distribution and habitat of the Korean wild Pyrus ussuriensis and P. pyrifolia communities, that are so expected as a useful resource plant, an investigation was carried out according to phytosociological method on Mts. Hambaek, Ilwol, Sobaek, Juwang and Gaya in Korea. In the present study, we made an attempt to elucidate the autecological characteristics of the wild Pyrus species by synecological approach. As a result, the forests including the Pyrus species were divided into the two associations and two communities, considering the existing vegetation units for the forest; Syneilesio-Quercetum serratae, Corylo-Quercetum mongozicae, Ainsziaea acerifolia- Quercus mongolica community and Fraxinus rhynchophylla-Pyrus ussuriensis community. Among the units, the Syneilesio-Quercetum serratae and the Corylo-Quercetum mongolicae belong to southern type and middile-northern type, respectively, in their distributional type. It is inferred that the wild Pyrus species are distributed preferably in the deciduous forest zone in Korea, compared to the other forest zones. In particular the Pyrus species are present alone or dominantly in only both the tree layer or subtree layer of the forests, reflecting their shade intolerance ecophysiologically. Thus they usually were distributed in SE or SW of slope aspect. Generally the canopy of the forests including the Pyrus species was so open. Species diversity of the vegetation units was highest in the Syneizesio-Quercetum serratae and lowest in the Ainsliaea acerifolia-Quercus mongolica community. The Corylo-Quercetum mongolicae and the Pyrus ussuriensis-Fraxinus rhynchophylla community are medium between the two.
To investigate the plant community structure of Paekdam-Valley in Soraksan National Park, fifty-two plots have been set up and surveyed. By DCA ordination technique, the plant communities were classified into fkve community types, which were Pinus densiflora community and Q. mongolica community. It was supposed that Q. serrata community change to C. laxiflora community. It seemed that P. densiflora community, deciduous broad-leaved mixed forest and Q. serrata community would not be replace by another woody species. And it seemed that C. laxiflora community succeeded to Q. serrata community, so it was similar to the typical ecological succession of natural forest in the middle temperate regions. The range of Shannon's diversity index was 0.9827~1.2946(Unit area : 400m$^2$) and that was over another Korean National Parks area relatively.
To investigate the structure and the conservation strategy of natural forest at Sangwonsa, Pirobong, Horyongbong area in Odaesan, 23 plots(20*20m) were set up with random sampling method. Three groups were classified by cluster analysis; Quercus mongolica-Abies holophylla community, Acer mandshuricum- Abies nephrolepis community, and A. holophylla-Ulmus laciniata community. High positive correlations were proved betwween Tilia amurensis and Acer mono; Sorbus commixta and Euonymus macropterus, Betula ermanii, and Viburnum sargentii; E. macropterus and V. sargentii; B. ermanii and V. sargentii; A. mephrolepis and Syringa velutina var. kamibayashii; S. velutina var. kamibayashii and Salix hulteni; Pinus densiflora and A. holophylla. High negative correlations were proved between Q. mongolica and Juglans mandhuricum; Sasa vorealis and E. macropterus; Acer mono and Philadelphus schenckii; A. holophylla and E. macropterus, B. ermanii, S. velutina var. kamibayashii, and Salix hulteni. Species diversity(H') of investigated area was 1.2973~1.46331.

This study was conducted to analyze the effect of yearly changes in growing degree days (GDD) on the potential distribution and growth of Quercus mongolica in Korea. Annual tree-ring growth data of Quercus mongolica collected by the $5^{th}$ National Forest Inventory were first organized to identify the range of current distribution for the species. Yearly GDD was calculated based on daily mean temperature data from 1951 to 2010 for counties with current distribution of Q. monglica. When tree-ring growth data were analyzed through cluster analysis based on similarity of climatic conditions, seven clusters were identified. Yearly GDD based on daily mean temperature data of each county were calculated for each of the cluster to predict the change of potential distribution. Temperature effect indices were estimated to predict the effect of GDD on the growth patterns. In addition, RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 of climate change scenarios were adopted to estimate yearly GDD and temperature effect indices from 2011 to 2100. The results indicate that the areas with low latitude and elevation exceed the upper threshold of GDD for the species due to the increase of mean temperature with climate change. It was also predicted that the steep increase of temperature will have negative influences on tree-ring growth, and will move the potential distribution of the species to areas with higher latitude or higher elevation, especially after the year of 2050. The results of this study are expected to provide valuable information necessary for estimating local growth characteristics and for predicting changes in the potential distribution of Q. mongolica caused by climate change.

A valley and a ridge forest in Mt. Gaya area was studied to investigate forest structure in relation to altitude and part of slope. Sixty-three quadrats were set up in the valley forest along altitude of 600m to 1,000m and part of slope, and thirty-eight quadrats were set up in the ridge forest along altitude of 700m to 1,430m. According to the importance values, the valley forest was Quercus mongolica-Lespedeza maximowiczii community and the ridge forest was Pinus densiflora, Quercus mongolica-Rhododendron mucronulatum community. Similarity index between the valley forest community and the ridge forest community was 37.2%. Shannon's species diversities of the valley forest community and the ridge forest community were 1.3402 and 1.0098, respectively. According to importance values by crown stories and DCA ordination, successional trends of tree species may be from Pinus densiflora and Pinus koraiensis through Quercus mongolica to Quercus serrata and Carpinus laxiflora. As going from the lower part to upper part of the slope in the valley forest, the importance values of Quercus mongolica, Quercus aliena, Rhododendron mucronulatum and Lespedeza maximowiczii increased while those of Carpinus laxiflora and Fraxinus rhynchophylla decreased. With increasing elevation in the valley and ridge forest, the importance value of Pinus densiflora decreased while that of Quercus mongolica increased. In the valley forest, densities of canopy and shrubstratum increased as increasing elevation, and the number of species and species diversity decreased as increasing elevation and going from the lower part to the upper of slope. The range of similarity indices between parts of the slope, and the elevation belts of 100m in the valley forest were 66.6-69.2 and 25.9-79.8%, respectively. In the ridge forest, density and basal area of canopy tended to decreased as increasing elevation, and the range of similarity indices between elevation belts of 100m was 27.9-98.2%.
The valley forests located at the east-facing slope and the west facing slope in Hambaeksan area were studied to investigate forest structure in relation to aspect and altitude of the slope. There was little difference in density. mean DBH and basal area of the tree layer between east-facing slope and west-facing slope. The importance percentages of Tilia amurensis and Betula costata in west-facing slope were higher than those in east-facing slope. However, the importance percentages of Quercus mongilica and Fraxinus rhynchophylla in the west facing slope were lower than those in east-facing slope. Species diversity of the west-facing slope was 1.415 and that of the east-facing slope was 1.328. Elevation trends were also found for forest structure. As elevation Increased basal area and mean height of the tree layer decreased in both of east-facing slope and west-facing slope. There was a tendency that number of species, species diversity and evenness decreased with increasing elevation. The importance percentage of Quercus mongolica increased with increasing elevation while those of Betula costata and Maackia amurensis decreased. The result of cluster analysis for the tree and subtree layer indicated that the studied forests were classified into the mixed forest community of broad-leaved tree species at west-facing slope and the low and middle elevation belts of east-facing slope and Quercus mongolica community at the high elevation belt of east-facing slope. Quercus mongolica was significantly and positively correlated with Symplocos chinensis for. pilosa, Acer tschonoskii var. rubripes and deutzia glabrata. Betula costata was significantly and negatively correlated with Quercus mongolica and Acer pseudo-sieboldianum.
Community classification with TWINSP AN and analysis of forest community structure in Y${\breve{o}}$nkiam and Img${\breve{o}}$lry${\breve{o}}$ng areas were carried out to research forest vegetation. The forest communities in Yonkiam area were classified as Carpinus laxiflora - Quercus serrata community, Pinus densiflora - Styrax japonica community, Quercus aliena - Carpinus laxiflora community, Quercus aliena - Quercus serrata community. The forest communities in Img${\breve{o}}$lry${\breve{o}}$ng area were classified as Quercus mongolica - Carpinus laxiflora community, Quercus mongolica - Acer pseudosieboldianum community, Quercus mongolica - Abies koreana community, Quercus mongolica - Rhododendron schlippenbachii community. The dominant species in Y${\breve{o}}$nkiam area were Pinus densiflora, Carpinus laxiflora, Quercus serrata. Quercus aliena and Quercus variabilis. The dominant species in Img${\breve{o}}$lry${\breve{o}}$ng area were Quercus mongolica, Abies koreana, Acer pseudosieboldianum, Rhododendron schlippenbachii and Tilia amurensis.

To investigate the structure of the plant community of Soribong area in Kwangnung forest, forty-six plots were set up by the clumped sampling method. The classification by TWINSPAN and four kinds of multivariate ordination(PO, PCA, RA, DCA) were applied to the study area in order to classify them into several groups based on woody plants and environmental variables. The classification had been successfully overlayed on an ordination of the same data using DCA. The plots can be classified into four groups by TWINSPAN and DCA. The successional trends of tree species by both techniques seem to be from Pinus densiflora through Quercus mongolica, Q. serrata, Q. aliena, Carpinus laxiflora, Sorbus alnifolia to C. cordata, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Cornus controversa in the canopy layer, and from Rhododendron mucronulatum, Rhus triohocarpa, Lespeoleza cyrtobotrya, Weigela subsessilis through Corylus sieboldiana, Lindera obtusiloba to Slaphylea bumalda, Callicarpa japonica, Lonicera maackii in the understory layer. As a result of the analysis for the relationship between the stand scores of DCA and environmental variables, they had a tendancy to increase significantly from the P. densiflora community to C. cordata community that was soil pH and the amount of humus, total nitrogen and exchangeable cations.
