Experimental Analysis of Fretting Wear Behaviors in Elastic Deformable Contacts (탄성변형 접촉에서 프레팅 마멸거동의 실험적 분석)

  • Fretting wear behavior under elastic deformable contacts was experimentally examined by using a simulated dual cooled fuel rod and its supporting structure. As this fuel rod has larger outer diameter than the typical solid rod to accommodate sufficient internal flow, new supporting structure geometries should be designed and their reliabilities (i.e. vibration characteristics, fretting wear resistance, etc.) are also examined with both analytical and experimental methods. In this study, the supporting structure characteristics and fretting wear behaviors are analyzed and examined by using one of the supporting structure candidates which has an embossing shape. The supporting structure characteristics were examined by using a specially designed test rig and their results were compared with that of analytical method. Based on the test results, the relationship between the supporting structure characteristics and their fretting wear behaviors was discussed in detail.

Fabrication Process and Reliability Evaluation of Shape Memory Alloy Composite (형상기억복합재료의 저조공정 및 신뢰성 평가)

  • Shape memory alloy has been used to improve the tensile strength of composite by the occurrence of compressive residual stress in matrix using its shape memory effect. In order to fabricate shape memory alloy composite, TiNi alloy and A16061 were used as reinforcing material and mix, respectively. In this study, TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy composite was made by using hot press method. However, the specimen fabricated by this method had the bonding problem at the boundary between TiNi fiber and Al matrix when the load was applied to it. A cold rolling was imposed to the specimen to improve the bonding effect. It was found that tensile strength of specimen subjected to cold rolling was more increased than that of specimen which did not underwent cold rolling. In addition, acoustic emission technique was used to quantify the microscopic damage behavior of cold rolled TiNi/A16061 shape memory alloy composite at high temperature.

  • 무전해 니켈도금은 전기 공급 없이 환원재의 화학반응에 의해 도금이 진행되며, 복잡한 형상의 제품에도 균일한 도금 층을 형성시킬 수 있어 널리 적용되는 기술이다. 특히, 전기 니켈도금 층에 비해 무전해 니켈도금 층의 내식성과 내마모성이 우수하여 산업현장에서 가장 많이 사용되고 있다. 그러나 해양환경에서 빠른 유속 변화에 의해 발생되는 캐비테이션-침식 방지를 위한 무전해 니켈도금의 적용은 전무한 실정이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 회주철의 캐비테이션-침식 방지를 위해 최적의 무전해 니켈도금 조건을 규명하고, 그 캐비테이션 저항성을 평가하고자 하였다. 무전해 니켈코팅을 위한 모재는 gray cast iron (FC250)을 $19.5mm{\times}19.5mm{\times}5mm$의 크기로 제작하였다. 회주철의 인장강도는 $330N/mm^2$이며, 그 성분 조성(wt.%)은 3.23 C, 1.64 Si, 0.84 Mn, 0.016 P, 0.013 S 그리고 나머지는 Fe이다. 시험편은 SiC 페이퍼 grit #1200까지 연마하였으며, 시험편의 표면 거칠기(centre line average, Ra)는 $1.6-2.1{\mu}m$ 범위 내로 제작하였다. 연마된 시험편은 증류수(distilled water) 세척 후 hot air로 건조하였다. 무전해 도금 전 시험편은 탈지를 위해 아세톤 용액(room temperature, RT)에서 3분간 초음파 세척하고, $90^{\circ}C$의 알카리 수용액으로 5분간 세척하였다. 그리고 표면활성화를 위한 산세척(acid pickling)은 5% sulfuric acid 용액에서 30초 동안 실시하였다. 무전해 Ni-P(electroless nickel, EN) 도금 전과 모든 과정마다 증류수로 시험편을 철저하게 세척하였다. EN 도금을 위한 도금욕(the bath)은 기존 문헌 연구를 통해 조성성분, 도금조건 및 변수들(the parameters)의 적절한 범위를 결정하였다. 도금조로 500mL 비커를 사용하였으며, 모든 시험편은 2시간 동안 EN deposition을 실시하였다. 캐비테이션 실험 결과 EN 도금의 표면경도가 증가함에 따라 캐비테이션 저항성도 현저하게 향상되었다.

Evaluation of Cutting Characteristics in Bulk Metallic Glasses (벌크비정질합금(BMG)의 절삭특성 평가)

  • In this study, the cutting characteristics of bulk metallic glass (BMG) cut using a computer numerically controlled (CNC) lathe were investigated for different insert tool materials and cutting speeds. The surface roughness, chip morphology, cutting forces, and tool wear during turning of $Zr_{50}Cu_{40}Al_{10}$ BMG alloy were examined. Four kinds of tool materials were used to cut an 8-mm-diameter BMG. The examination of the surface roughnesses of the BMG specimens machined at each cutting speed showed that the surface roughness became better as the cutting speed increased, and the tool materials also influenced the surface roughness. The chip morphology investigations showed that the unoxidized BMG chips had serrated curled chips with adiabatic shear bands, while the oxidized chips exhibited local melting and tangling rather than the usual spiral-shaped chips. The cutting force induced during machining of the Zr-based BMG was the largest for the TiN-WC tool, followed by the polycrystalline diamond (PCD) tool. The cermet tool exerted the smallest cutting force.

고장력 후판의 굽힘 가공성에 관한 실험적 연구

  • 굽힘 가공(Bending Process)은 원통형의 다이(die)등을 이용하여 평판형 금속 판재에 프레스 하중을 가하여 임의의 굽 힘 형상을 영구적으로 만드는 가공법으로 소성가공을 하고 있는 대부분의 산업현장에서 널리 쓰이는 가공법 중의 하 나이다. 본 연구에서는 특수 목적이 대형구조물 혹은 대형차체에 주로 사용되어지는 고장력 후판을 대상으로 하여 여러종류의 굽힘각도에 따른 가공성 시험을 수행하고, 굽힘가공부위에서 채취한 시험편에 대한 기계적 물성시험을 통하 여 가공전의 모재와 비교, 분석하므로써 적절한 굽힘 가공조건 및 굽힘가공이 가능한 허용각도등을 결정할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • 점용접은 자동차를 제작하는데 사용하는 가장 유용한 용접법이다. 그러나 산업현장에서 직면하고 있는 가장 큰 문제점 중의 하나는 점용접의 용접성에 관한 문제이다. 본 연구에서는 강판의 두께가 1.6mm인 경우와 1.2mm인 경우에 대해 2점 점용접을 실시하여 인장강도를 증가시키고 용접의 흔적을 남기지 않게 하기 위한 조건을 찾는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 용접성에 영향을 미치는 많은 요소들이 있다. 그중에서 용접전극의 형상이 인장강도를 증가시키는 요소로 집중을 하면서 연구를 수행하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 인장강도는 용접전극의 형상 및 팁직경 거리와 전류가 클수록 증가하였다. 시행 착오법을 통해 최적용접조건을 찾았고 그에 따른 최적전류인 9,000A와 전극의 형상 RF형을 찾았다. 경도시험결과는 인장력이 시험편에 작용할 때 열 영향부인 HAZ부에서 왜 파괴가 일어나는지를 설명해 주었다.

Rod Impact Test for the Determination of Dynamic Yield Stress of Metals (금속재료의 동적항복응력 결정을 위한 봉충격시험법)

  • A new theory based on the modified momentum and energy conservation has been proposed in order to overcome the drawbacks included in previous theories which are used for the determination of dynamic yield stresses and the investigation of dynamic behavior of metals. Then the improvements suggested by the new theory have been manifested through the analysis of the error included in the measurement of deformed length and through the comparison between the new theory, existing theories, and experimental results performed by previous workers. Meanwhile rod impact test has been performed which uses a compressed- air system for the acceleration of flat-ended cylindrical free-cutting brass rods. From the geomtrical measurements of deformed length, the dynamic yield stress of free-cutting brass has determined.

  • An accelerated ultrasonic fatigue test(UFT) has been used for analyzing very high cycle fatigue( VHCF, $N_f$ > $10^7$). This study reviews how the test specimen is to be determined. We focus on UFT using a resonance of 20 kHz. The specimen geometry is determined by selecting test materials by using a dynamic Young's modulus and wavelength of 20 kHz. The dynamic Young's modulus is calculated at the resonant frequency. Through a resonant vibration test at 20 kHz, the length of the specimen is calculated. By determining the shape of the specimen, the stress during the UFT is calculated. The UFT results should be comparable at the test frequency and the specimen geometry obtained by the conventional fatigue tests.

Fatigue Strength of In-plane Welded Attachments (면내 거셋 용접연결부의 피로강도)

  • This s paper presented the results of the three phases of fatigue tests to determine the fatigue strength of in-plane welded gusset joints, which are the most common details inevitably existing in the region of high stress range. A total of 57 fatigue specimens with varying thickness and strengths were made and tensile fatigue tests performed. One full-scale beam fatigue test was also performed. The validity of the fatigue strength of those details in the specification was confirmed, with the effects of thickness of flanges and welded attachments, length of attachments, and strength of applied steel examined. The characteristics of crack initiation and propagation were also observed. The test result was evaluated by comparing it with other test data and fatigue criteria of other countries. To determine the degree of stress concentration in the weld toe depending on geometric configuration such as attachment length and transition radius, analyses were performed. Compared to the present specification, analytical results indicate the need to revise and subdivide the detail categories.
