  • This paper presents an efficient joint disparity-motion estimation algorithm for stereo sequence CODEC. Disparity vectors are estimated by the left and right motion vectors and previous disparity vectors for every frame. In order to obtain more accurate disparity vectors. we include a spatial prediction Process after the feint estimation. From joint estimation and spatial prediction, we can obtain accurate disparity vectors and then Increase coding efficiency. Finally, we proposed the backward quadtree decomposition. which helps the encoder to have a more detailed disparity vector map without transmitting additional coding bits for quadtree information. We confirmed superior performance of the proposed method through computer simulation.

  • In 3D video compression, a disparity vector (DV) pointing a corresponding block position in an adjacent view is a key coding tool to exploit statistical correlation in multi-view videos. In this paper, neighboring block-based disparity vector (NBDV) is shown with detail algorithm descriptions and coding performance analysis. The proposed method derives a DV from disparity motion vector information, obtained from spatially and temporally neighboring blocks, and provides a significant coding gain about 20% BD-rate saving in a texture-video-first-coding scheme. The proposed DV derivation method is adopted into the recent 3D video coding standards such as 3D-AVC and 3D-HEVC as the state-of-the-art DV derivation method.

  • Although Motion estimation (ME) plays an important role in digital video compression, it requires a complicated search procedure to find an optimal motion vector. Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. The computational complexity of motion estimation for Multi-view video coding increases in proportion to the number of cameras. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, a low complexity motion estimation search method is proposed in this paper. The proposed search method consists of four-grid diamond search patten, two-gird diamond search pattern and TZ 2 Point search pattern. These search patterns exploit the characteristics of the distribution of motion vectors to place the search points. Experiment results show that the speedup improvement of the proposed method over TZ search method (JMVC) can be up to 1.8~4.5 times faster by reducing the computational complexity and the image quality degradation is about to 0.01~0.24 (dB).

  • Motion Estimation(ME) has been developed to reduce the redundant data in digital video signal. ME is an important part of video encoding system, However, it requires huge computational complexity of the encoder part, and fast motion search methods have been proposed to reduce huge complexity. Multi- view video is obtained by capturing on a three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions and its complexity increases in proportion to the number of cameras. In this paper, we proposed an efficient motion method which chooses a search pattern adaptively by using the temporal-spatial correlation of the block and the characteristics of the block. Experiment results show that the computational complexity reduction of the proposed method over TZ search method and FS method can be up to 70~75% and 99% respectively while keeping similar image quality and bit rates.

  • A multiview sequence CODEC with view scaiability is proposed in this paper. We define a GGOP (Group of GOP) structure as a basic coding unit to efficiently code multiview sequences. 7he proposed CODEC provides flexible GGOP structures based on the number of views and baseline distances among cameras. Multiview sequences encode consists of disparity estimation/compensation, motion estimation/compensation, residual coding and rate control and generates multiview sequence bitstream. The main bitstream is the same as an MPEG-2 mono-sequence bitstream for MPEG-2 compatibility. The auxiliary bitstream contains information concerning the remaining multiview sequences except for the reference sequences. The proposed CODEC with view scalability provides that a number of view flints are selectively determined at the receiver according to the type of display modes. The proposed multiview sequence CODEC is tested with several multiview sequences to determine its flexibility. compatibility with MPEG-2 and view scaiability. In addition, we subjectively confirm that the decoded bitstreams with view scaiability can be Properly displayed by several types of display modes. including 3D monitors.

  • This paper considers robust estimation of the sparse vector autoregressive model (sVAR) useful in high-dimensional time series analysis. First, we generalize the result of Xu et al. (2008) that the adaptive lasso indeed has robustness in sVAR as well. However, adaptive lasso method in sVAR performs poorly as the number and sizes of outliers increases. Therefore, we propose new robust estimation methods for sVAR based on least absolute deviation (LAD) and Huber estimation. Our simulation results show that our proposed methods provide more accurate estimation in turn showed better forecasting performance when outliers exist. In addition, we applied our proposed methods to power usage data and confirmed that there are unignorable outliers and robust estimation taking such outliers into account improves forecasting.

To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, an effective early termination motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method exploiting the characteristic of motion vector distribution uses a hierarchical search strategy. • To enhance the performance of multi-view sequence CODEC, an efficient disparity vector coding method fur multiview sequences is proposed herein. For higher coding efficiency, we encode the differential vectors acquired by subtracting the original vectors from the predicted ones. To enhance the performance of disparity vector coding, it is essential to predict the disparity vectors accurately. The prediction by this proposed method utilizes the correlation among the multiview images, while conventional methods exploit the correlation among the causal blocks. Experiments were performed fur three different 5 view sequences. We were able to confirm that the proposed method predicts disparity vectors accurately by comparing the entropy and the mean absolute values for differential vectors with conventional methods. Its performance is superior to vector coding methods used in MPEG-4 which uses only a spatial correlation. The proposed method increases the coding efficiency by a factor of $30{\~}45\%$ while preserving image quality.

  • This paper is related to a new technology allowing a user to have a 360 degree viewpoint of the virtual wearing object, and to an object VR(Virtual Reality)-based 2D virtual textile wearing system using viewpoint vector estimation and textile texture mapping. The proposed system is characterized as capable of virtually wearing a new textile pattern selected by the user to the clothing shape section segmented from multiview 2D images of clothes model for object VR, and three-dimensionally viewing its virtual wearing appearance at a 360 degree viewpoint of the object. Regardless of color or intensity of model clothes, the proposed system is possible to virtually change the textile pattern with holding the illumination and shading properties of the selected clothing shape section, and also to quickly and easily simulate, compare, and select multiple textile pattern combinations for individual styles or entire outfits. The proposed system can provide higher practicality and easy-to-use interface, as it makes real-time processing possible in various digital environment, and creates comparatively natural and realistic virtual wearing styles, and also makes semi -automatic processing possible to reduce the manual works to a minimum. According to the proposed system, it can motivate the creative activity of the designers with simulation results on the effect of textile pattern design on the appearance of clothes without manufacturing physical clothes and, as it can help the purchasers for decision-making with them, promote B2B or B2C e-commerce.

  • Motion estimation (ME) that limits the performance of image quality and encoding speed has been developed to reduce temporal redundancy in video sequences and plays an important role in digital video compression. But it is computational demanding part of the encoder. Multi-view video is obtained by capturing one three-dimensional scene with many cameras at different positions. ME for Multi-view video requires high computational complexity. To reduce computational complexity and maintain the image quality, a fast motion estimation method is proposed in this paper. The proposed method uses a hierarchical search strategy. This strategy method consists of modified diamond search patten, multi gird diamond search pattern, and raster search pattern. These search patterns place search points symmetrically and evenly that can cover the overall search area not to fall into the local minimum or exploits the characteristics of the distribution of motion vectors to place the search points. Experiment results show that the speedup improvement of the proposed method over TZ search method (JMVC) can be up to 1.2 ~3 times faster while maintaining similar video quality and bit rates.
