Multi-fidelity Data-fusion for Improving Strain accuracy using Optical Fiber Sensors (이종 광섬유 센서 데이터 융합을 통한 변형률 정확도 향상 기법)

  • As aging infrastructures increase along with time, the efficient maintenance becomes more significant and accurate responses from the sensors are pre-requisite. Among various responses, strain is commonly used to detect damage such as crack and fatigue. Optical fiber sensor is one of the promising sensing techniques to measure strains with high-durability, immunity for electrical noise, long transmission distance. Fiber Bragg Grating (FBG) is a point sensor to measure the strain based on reflected signals from the grating, while Brillouin Optic Correlation Domain Analysis (BOCDA) is a distributed sensor to measure the strain along with the optical fiber based on scattering signals. Although the FBG provides the signal with high accuracy and reproducibility, the number of sensing points is limited. On the other hand, the BOCDA can measure a quasi-continuous strain along with the optical fiber. However, the measured signals from BOCDA have low accuracy and reproducibility. This paper proposed a multi-fidelity data-fusion method based on Gaussian Process Regression to improve the fidelity of the strain distribution by fusing the advantages of both systems. The proposed method was evaluated by laboratory test. The result shows that the proposed method is promising to improve the fidelity of the strain.

Analysis of the Finishing Failure in the Railway Station Platform and Deduction of Improvement Plans (철도역사 승강장 연단부 마감 탈락에 대한 원인 분석 및 개선 방안)

  • The railway platform is an important facility closely related to the safety of passengers, trains, and images of railway facilities, and requires thorough facility management. However, the problem that the finishing material (plastering mortar) for the joint finishing of dissimilar materials (concrete+granite) falls off in the direction of the track at the platform podium is occurring multiple times across the country. Since these problems threaten the safety of train operation and the safety of passengers, immediate and continuous management is required. This study tried to derive improvement plans through the analysis of the drop-off problem of finishing materials occurring at the platform podium. The status of missing finishing materials for the platform podiums of about 200 railway stations and the related design and construction standards of the Korea National Railway were investigated. After that, the cause of the drop-off of the finishing material was analyzed, and as a result, it was found that the main cause was the boundary between the roadbed and the architectural process that occurred during construction. Subsequently, in connection with the derived causes and design, construction standards, (1) improvement of finishing materials or construction methods, (2) design of finishing materials that are easy to adjust height, (3) design of separate finishing methods, (4) improvement methods and durability were suggested.

  • It is necessary to secure the underwater visibility in order to perform underwater works such as rubble mound leveling or inspection and management of underwater structures. In this study, turbidity data for typical port area in Korea were measured and analyzed according to the region. Underwater monitoring system including underwater camera and sonar system, which can be effectively attached to underwater equipment for various turbidity conditions, was also investigated.

  • Since 1995, One of the NGIS(National Geographic Information System) projects, the underground utilities project has been finished in 2003. The 19 cities in korea for this project will use underground utilities management system using underground utilities database focusing on water and sewage system. However, special expert, technical and experience problem in computer environment has not been had in working department for water and sewage management and maintenance for each local government. The management and maintenance of underground utilities database by manual method is getting lowered a data quality of underground utilities database because of the data omitting, error in writing and securing of the lasted database. Therefore, in this study, Application test for field workers using a mobile tool and environment analysis of wireless communication in Korea and application test of GPS receiver for mobile tools had been processed and made a mobile working environment. The efficient management and maintenance method for underground utilities database has been developed an off- line method for modification and update of database about general work which has a high working frequency because of the limitation of wireless communication environment Also, the emergency working has been applied for on-line method.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a campus facility management system, construct 3D graphic data and attribute data of facilities on the Kumoh National Institute of Technology and then verificate the developed system's practicability. Utilized the existing campus facility data from the existing drawings, images, cadastre records and so forth, 3D position data of underground facilities surveyed with a total station and high-resolution aerial photos, 3D realistic models were produced by means of a XD2D software and a XDWORLD Builder Professional software of GIS engines. We intend to embody not only campus guide service in virtual reality space but visualization of 3D virtual campus by providing 2D and 3D data to web space using XDWORLD server soon after. It is expected that the campus facility management system is able to contribute to the integrated management of 3D facility data service, the support of prompt decision-making related to spatial affairs, the work simplification through data holding in common between the members of the staff and so forth.

  • 하천시설물 설계, 시공 및 관리에 있어서 하상재료는 매우 중요하다. 예를 들어, 재료에따른 호안이나 하안의 보호능력이 떨어지거나 수리적 특성에 의해 쉽게 파손될 수 있으며, 구성물질에 의해 하천환경의 변화를 야기시킬 수 있다. 때문에 본 연구에서는 비독성 자연형 하상재료를 이용하여 홍수시 수리조건을 반영하여 상류에서부터 사류까지 다양한 Froude 수에 따른 저항력에 대한 실험을 진행하였다. 본 연구의 실험진행은 기 개발된 바닥응력을 직접측정하는 장치와 PIV시스템을 이용하여 수리특성을 측정하였다.(Park J.H. et al. 2016, Flow Measurment and instrumentation.) 또한 각각의 조건에 따른 수리학적 특성의 변화를 비교하였다. 하상 재료는 콘크리트를 배제한 자연형 제방이나 하상에 사용되는 재료를 이용하여 비교하였으며 Foude 수는 일반적인 흐름의 상류에서 홍수 시, 고유량에서 발생하는 사류까지 다양한 범위에서 실험을 진행하였으며, 이러한 재료와 Froude 수에 따른 토양 유실에 대한 실험을 진행하였다. 토양 유실율의 측정 장비로는 초음파 변위계를 이용하여 실험 전, 후의 세굴심 변화를 이용하여 토양의 세굴면적을 수치화 시킨 수치로 적용하여 토양 유실율을 산정하였다.

Considerations for Developing a SLAM System for Real-time Remote Scanning of Building Facilities (건축물 실시간 원격 스캔을 위한 SLAM 시스템 개발 시 고려사항)

  • In managing building facilities, spatial information is the basic data for decision making. However, the method of acquiring spatial information is not easy. In many cases, the site and drawings are often different due to changes in facilities and time after construction. In this case, the site data should be scanned to obtain spatial information. The scan data actually contains spatial information, which is a great help in making space related decisions. However, to obtain scan data, an expensive LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) device must be purchased, and special software for processing data obtained from the device must be available.Recently, SLAM (Simultaneous localization and mapping), an advanced map generation technology, has been spreading in the field of robotics. Using SLAM, 3D spatial information can be obtained quickly in real time without a separate matching process. This study develops and tests whether SLAM technology can be used to obtain spatial information for facility management. This draws considerations for developing a SLAM device for real-time remote scanning for facility management. However, this study focuses on the system development method that acquires spatial information necessary for facility management through SLAM technology. To this end, we develop a prototype, analyze the pros and cons, and then suggest considerations for developing a SLAM system.

Application Method of Remote Site Monitoring in Public Road Construction Projects (공공 도로건설사업에서의 원격 현장모니터링 적용방안에 관한 연구)

  • The public road construction projects awarded by the regional construction and management office, which is an affiliate of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, are managed by construction supervision officers. These officials frequently visit a large number of construction sites to conduct inspections and supervision tasks. Therefore, the site management efficiency is essential in terms of the time and money spent in travelling to the sites. The introduction of a site monitoring management system is considered necessary to minimize the number of site visits and enable remote monitoring of the construction progress to enhance the business efficiency of the construction supervision officers. In this study, a remote site monitoring system was constructed using web cameras for public road construction works. The trial applications were implemented by selecting ten constructions sites. The effectiveness of the system was analyzed to assess its applicability. In an assessment of the applicability of the verification results, remote site monitoring showed cost savings of approximately 35% compared to the existing site management. The guidelines for applying the site monitoring management system were provided, the introduction plan was investigated, and the improvement method was presented. The results showed that the system is likely to minimize the unnecessary site visits, remove the risk factors at vulnerable areas in the sites beforehand, and prevent a range of disasters and accidents. In addition, the quality of the infrastructures is likely to improve through the prevention of accidents and the elimination of substandard and faulty construction work.

Valuation of highway O&M contract using real option (실물옵션을 활용한 고속 도로 유지관리 계약의 가치산정)

  • The recent budget planning for highway infrastructure implied that the investments for Operation & Maintenance(O&M) became greater than that for new construction. This circumstance made many stakeholders pay attention to the O&M of road infrastructure and adopt other countries' policies and system for effective management. In other countries, most O&M for road infrastructure have been done by private entities using long-term contract and Korea is about to shift from one year contract to long-term contract. The most important parts for the expansion of the long-term O&M contract for road infrastructure are valuation of the O&M contract based on accurate prediction of O&M costs and instrument for proper risk sharing between contracting parties. Thus, this study provides a methodology to estimate a reasonable O&M contract price and a framework to share contract risk between contracting parties using real option. The analysis results showed that the contract price and ceiling and floor conditions for the 20 year-contract of 20 km-highway project were 45.7, 60 and 42.3 billion won, respectively.

Research on the Construction of an Automation Model for Maintenance Managers Based on Smart Devices (스마트 디바이스 기반 유지보수 관리자용 자동화 모델 구축에 관한 연구)

  • Based on the previous year's statistics, 37% of buildings in South Korea are aged over 30 years. As the number of the aging buildings increases, so does the need for maintenance. Building maintenance involves a significant number of works; the work of 'maintenance manager' accounting for the largest part. Currently, the maintenance history record is mostly in drawing or handwritten form which makes reviewing the data highly time consuming. Therefore, to improve the convenience of maintenance works and optimize historical data management, the existing maintenance process was analyzed. Problems were derived and a smart device-based automation model was established. In order to establish a smart device-based automation model, ① general flow of facility management process was analyzed and related articles were reviewed, ② current maintenance process was optimized, ③ functional block diagram of BIM Data, COBie Data, IoT, and AR-based automated maintenance management model was created, ④ a smart device-based automated maintenance management model was constructed, ⑤ finally, the above system was verified by testing the aforementioned model in the field site, evaluating the time required for the maintenance process and reviewing maintenance history data against the current one.
