We tried to make clear constant exercise according to exercise intensity would have effect on sleep disorder in elderly using EEG and melatonin. Methods : Thirty subjects were over 65 years old who lived a senior facility in some parts. They were able to communicate and understand the purpose of the study. They also expressed their intension to participate actively in experiment. They should have alert consciousness and orientation about time, place, and people. Sleep disorder was assessed via below 6 hr total sleep time and Pittsburge Sleep Quality Index, which was satisfied with both of criterion at the same time. Exercises composed of low intensity walking, moderate aerobic exercise, and high intensity resistance strength. We used QEEG 8-System (LAXTHA Inc. KOREA) to check wave type and Polysomnograpy (Compumedics, Australia) to test quality of sleep. and Histologic features were observed by TTC (triphenyltetrazolium chloride) staining and H & E (Hematoxylin & Eosin) staining. Results : There was a significant sleep index and change of melatonin after aerobic exercise. There was a significant SOL, S1, S2, and SWS in aerobic exercise, but there was a significant SWS in walking and resistance strength. There was a significant change of delta wave especially in frontal and temporal region between exercises. Conclusion : They had different effects according to type of exercise, when elderly who have chemical, behavioral change of circadian rhythms did exercise consistently. Aerobic exercise had more effect on sleep disorder than other exercise. Therefore, we may supply proper exercise to elderly and high quality of life.

In addition, there were significant differences of safety consciousness between elderly women living alone and elderly women in group homes (t=21.42, p<.001). Conclusion: Since the safety consciousness and health promotion behaviors of the elderly in group homes are significantly higher than that of the elderly living alone, various programs should be developed to improve the safety consciousness and health promotion behaviors in the elderly living alone. Based on local government' acts, continuous support and attention is needed that elderly women in group homes can maintain a healthy life.

  • The purposes of this study were to identify the degree of postprandial blood pressure reduction and the prevalence of postprandial hypotension by 3 different mealtimes of elderly people diagnosed with hypertension in nursing homes. After the informed and written consent, a total of 187 elderly people were recruited in the study. Systolic BP, diastolic BP were measured with ambulatory BP monitor every 15 minutes interval from 30 minutes before a meal until 120 minutes after each meal. The maximum SBP reduction was significantly bigger at breakfast than lunchtime or dinnertime. Among 187 elders, 137(73.4%) showed PPH at breakfast, 103(54.2%) at lunchtime, and 96(50.2%) at dinnertime. The most prevalent time point of PPH was 90 minutes after the initiation of a meal in all of 3 mealtimes. Among 8 measurement times, the prevalence of PPH was significantly higher in breakfast (3.0±2.7 times) than both lunchtime (2.1±2.5 times) and dinnertime (1.9±2.4 times). Although the occurrence of PPH by every mealtime should be taken into account in caring for the elderly, postprandial BP measurements need more attention after breakfast. Nurses should develop appropriate nursing interventions that can prevent postprandial blood pressure reduction in elderly people with hypertension.

Government released that they would try to protect environment for vulnerable people such children and seniors from indoor air pollutants in 2015. But social welfare facilities are exception under current legal systems. • Korea has set up a radiation emergency planning zone based on the 「Act on Physical Protection and Radiological Emergency」 to protect residents living near nuclear power plants in the event of nuclear disasters. Little research has been conducted on the appropriateness of existing nuclear evacuation facilities because of a general lack of interest in nuclear accidents. This research addresses this gap by analyzing the location adequacy of evacuation facilities in Busan's emergency protection planning area based on vulnerable populations and accessibility analyses. The Gijang-gun which has the greatest risk, shows that only 4.05% of the total urban area was included in the evacuation service area within 5 minutes while only 36.93% of Geumjeong-gu and 37.23% of Haeundae-gu were included in the evacuation-enabled area. In addition, evaluation facilities in the elderly population hotspots were lacking, and there was a wide gap between dongs within the same Gu. Thus, additional evacuation facilities need to be designated and installed considering the spatial equity between areas and safety of both the public and vulnerable populations.

Second, the period of the exercise program was mostly applied for more than 12 weeks, and the frequency of exercise per week was 1-2 times and 3-4 times. Most of the preceding literature was applied with a 60-minute exercise program during the one-time exercise period. Third, most of the contents of the exercise program consisted of a aerobic exercise alone and combination of aerobic·anaerobic exercise. Fourth, it was confirmed that the effects of exercise programs were effective in physical fitness factors as well as in depression and cognitive function.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the physical, psychological, and social well-being of elderly women living in rural areas depending on their participation in swimming activities. Study sample consisted of 41 elderly women residing in the G province of C region who participated in swimming activities at least 3 times per week for one or more years, and 43 elderly women of the same area who did not participate in swimming activities. Data was collected over the course of 6 weeks. Analysis of the data showed that there are significant differences between participants and non-participants of swimming activities in their physical well-being(pain, flexibility), psychological well-being(perceived health status, depression), and their social well-being(strengthened interpersonal relations). In other words, participants of swimming activities, compared to non-participants, were in better physical, psychological, and social conditions. Thus, active encouragement and support must be in place for elderly women in rural areas to engage in swimming activities by utilizing local swimming facilities.
