Setting time of cement-based materials can represent a developing strength in early-age mixture, and it can be used a significant parameter of high-performance concrete having various mix-proportions. Generally, initial and final setting time of concrete is measured by penetration resistance method that used a wet-sieving mortar mixture, therefore, it hardly represents the setting time of sound concrete including coarse aggregate. Recently, several nondestructive methods, such as ultrasonic velocity and impendence measurement, are proposed to evaluate the setting time of fresh concrete. This study attempts to measure an electrical resistivity using four-electrode method for evaluation of setting time in early-age cement-based materials. For this purpose, total 10 mixtures are prepared as different mix-proportions including chemical admixture. Based on the experimental results, two electrical parameters, such as initial electrical resistivity and rising time, are proposed to reflect a microstructure development by hydration of cement-based materials. As a result, proposed parameter is also discussed with the measured setting time by penetration resistance method.

In order to strengthen the disaster prevention phase and the management of social disasters, we will examine the plan of To-Be disaster management system interconnected by using intelligent information technologies such as IoT, Cloud, Big Data, Mobile and AI. The disaster management system can be upgraded by constructing an intelligent infrastructure based on Big Data analysis of the disaster signals before and after the disasters generated by private mobile and IoT. Big Data of disaster Signals can be customized to users in a timely manner through AI methodologies of supervised and unsupervised learning and reinforcement training. In the long term, it is expected that not only will the capacity of disaster response be improved, but the management ability centering on prevention will be enhanced as well.

In this paper, in order to utilize new and renewable energy a grid-connected parasol-type solar power generation system is presented. The proposed power system combining with commercial electric power system is designed to meet the need fur maximum power consumption and parasols for the people staying at beach during hot summer. Solar electric power can be charged in rechargeable batteries during day time and used to provide charged electric power to loads like lamps and fans during night time, A battery charge-discharge controller is required for the good performance of batteries to be charged. The presented battery controller is designed based on high performance microprocessor for precise charge-discharge operations. An alarm circuit to give notice of battery exchange time and other convenient functions are installed in the system. We implemented the proposed solar power generation system at East Sea beach during peak summer season to verify its productivity and performance by experiments.

The soy bean oil cakes and perillar oil cakes are phosphorylated and sulfonated to be used as ion exchangers. There 40-60mesh cations exchanges have bean tested on the capacity of ion exchange, the adsorption and distribution coefficients of several metal ions in various concentrations of binary solution mixture, hydrochloric acid and alcohol. From there experiments, the following results are concluded. The ion exchange capacity of ion exchangers are higher than 4 meq/g. The adsorption of metal ions on ion exchangers are increased generally as pH is increased, especially Co(II) on sulfonated soy bean oil cake. The distribution coefficients of various metal ions are decreased as the number of branches of carbon and hydroxyl groups are increased. There show that the stereo-isomerism of alkyl group or attraction of ligand have influenced upon various metal ions. Consequently it is deduced that there ion exchanges from soy bean oil cake and perillar oil cake resemble in properties to current ion exchangers.

In this study we examined the antioxidant activity and fermentation characteristics of black rice wine. The antioxidant activity of black rice wine was higher than the control, and DPPH radical scavenging activity showed a correlation with the anthocyanin content of rice wine. The pH remarkably decreased until 3 days of fermentation, and the gradually decreased. The reducing sugar and free sugar content reached a maximum at 1 day of fermentation due to enzyme activity. The amount of organic acids, especially lactic acid, increased during the fermentation period. Lactic acid bacteria and yeast count increased with time and amount of black rice. The L color value increased during fermentation regardless of treatments, and the a color value increased with ratio of black rice due to anthocyanin. For this reason, color was given a high score in black rice wine. But overall preference was high in rice wine made with less than 20% of black rice.

This study was conducted to evaluate several physiological activities of 4 sweet persimmon cultivar leaf water extracts. One new cultivar ('Hongchu' (HC)]) and three traditional cultivars ('Sangseojosaeng' (UW), Japanese Uenishiwase; 'Seochonjosaeng' (NW), Japanese Nishimurawase; and 'Buyu' (FY), Japanese Fuyu) were used in this study. The HC extract showed significantly higher DPPH and ABTS radical scavenging activities, tyrosinase inhibitory activity, and acetaldehyde dehydrogenase activity than the other extracts, while the FY extract exhibited a relatively higher alcohol dehydrogenase activity. The HC extract contained higher amount of phenolics and ascorbic acid. These results suggest the possibility of high-quality persimmon leaf tea development using the new sweet persimmon cultivar, HC.

Influenza-associated encephalopathy is regarded as one of the major neurologic disease entities along with those of Reye syndrome, acute necrotizing encephalopathy, and myelitis which are known to be related to influenza virus, mostly type A. And it is being actively researched in Japan as it has caused a tremendous increase in the number of deaths from 1997 to 2002, but it has not been yet reported in the Korean pediatric medical community. It attacks those previously healthy children, who have not been vaccinated. Patients start with such symptoms as fever and common respiratory problems, but within 24 to 48 hours they suffer from seizures with acute mental deterioration, become worse, and suffer multiple organ failures including marked elevated transaminase levels as well as coagulopathy. It induces deaths in a couple of days after the symptoms appear or remains a serious neurologic sequelae. Confirmative diagnosis is used to demonstrate influenza viral infection. We report here a 37 month aged boy who was admitted to our hospital during the last influenza season under the diagnosis of influenza associated encephalopathy on the basis of serologic testing by hemagglutinin inhibition(HI). This is the first report confirmed by increased antibody titer of the influenza A virus in Korea.

This is a report of a successful, rapid two-stage arterial switch operation in an infant with dextrotransposition of great arteries with an intact ventricular septum beyond the appropriate time for arterial switch operation.'A 4-month-old female infant was admitted due to severe cyanosis, respiratory insufficiency, and frequent dia rhea secondary to ischemic colitis. Echocardiographic examination presented marked leftward deviation of the interventricular septum, and left and right ventricular pressures as measured by cardiac catheterization were 40/4 mmHg and 85/2 mmHg, respectively. Fifteen days after a preparatory operation (pulmonary artery band with modified right Blalock-Taussig shunt), left ventricular-right ventricular systolic pressure ratio increased to 105/90. Arterial switch operation associated with the division of the right Blalock-Taussig shunt and the removal of pulmonary artery band was performed. A(leer the operation, the infant showed normal cardiac function with no postoperative complication.

Methylmalonic acidemia is an autosomal recessive disorder caused by complete (mut0) or partial (mut-) deficiency of methylmalonyl-CoA mutase (MUT) or by defects in the synthesis of adenosylcobalamin (cblA, cblB, cblD variant 2). Long term complications of methylmalonic acidemia include tubulointerstitial nephritis with progressive renal failure, intellectual impairment, pancreatitis, and growth failure. We report a case of methylmalonic acidemia in a girl who diagnosed at 6 days after birth. She has developed recurrent metabolic crises with hyperammonemia and metabolic acidosis. In addition, she suffered from the chronic complications including tubulointerstitial nephritis, electrolyte imbalance associated with renal dysfunction, growth failure and fracture of femur shaft. At the age of 10 years, hypercalcemia and severe osteoporosis were noted, and pamidronate therapy was given for two years, which relieved hypercalcemia and osteoporosis.
