In this paper a super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm is developed for real-time locating systems (RTLSs) that employ a direct-sequence spread spectrum technique, along with its performance analysis in multipath environments. The classical correlation method provides relatively good performance in line-of-sight (LOS) environments but its performance seriously degrades in multipath environments, especially when signals are spaced closer than a PN chip. Therefore we shall develop a super-resolution time delay estimation algorithm that may estimate the time delays of multipath signals even in closely spaced multipath environments using the MUSIC algorithm for direction-of-arrival estimation and analyze its performance by applying the algorithm to the ISO/IEC 24730-2.1 RTLS system.

The sound signal radiated from an underwater source is received by the hydrophone of the system, including multi-path time-delay and multi-path signal by sea surface and bottom reflection. The system using a time-delay between received signals for the source localization shows performance degradation due to incoherence by the multi-path propagation environment and the disturbance of a marine environment. Various types of array and signal processing have been used for robust source range and bearing estimation in this environment. In this paper, we use a line array composed of doublet array and an estimated time-delay correction method for robust localization performance in a multi-path propagation environment. Three doublet arrays are located on the same line, and the time-delay between signals received on each doublet array is estimated in a two-step procedure. The estimated time-delay value is obtained by the cross-correlation function and corrected by the interaction formula between the center-frequency of received signal and the geometry of the array with respect to aperture. By this proposed procedure, the range and bearing of source from array were calculated. In order to confirm the validity of the proposed method and array, we simulated localization and estimation using the Monte-Carlo method.
The localization of sources has a numerous number of applications. To estimate the position of sources, the relative delay between two or more received signals for the direct signal must be determined. Although the generalized cross-correlation method is the most popular technique, an approach based on eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) is also popular one, which utilizes an eigenvector of the minimum eigenvalue. The performance of the eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) based method degrades in the low SNR and the correlated environments, because it is difficult to select a single eigenvector for the minimum eigenvalue. In this paper, we propose a new adaptive algorithm based on Canonical Correlation Analysis (CCA) in order to extend the operation range to the lower SNR and the correlation environments. The proposed algorithm uses the eigenvector corresponding to the maximum eigenvalue in the generalized eigenvalue decomposition (GEVD). The estimated eigenvector contains all the information that we need for time delay estimation. We have performed simulations with uncorrelated and correlated noise for several SNRs, showing that the CCA based algorithm can estimate the time delays more accurately than the adaptive EVD algorithm.
The oceanic tides have an effect on groundwater levels in coastal fractured rock aquifers. The observed groundwater table fluctuations caused by the effective stress through an aquifer are shown as sine curves similar with tidal fluctuation. To estimate a hydrogeologic parameter, tidal method is utilized with groundwater level fluctuations of two monitoring wells. Cross correlation function is used to calculate time lags between observed groundwater levels and tide, and the deeper well shows longer time lag. The storage coefficients calculated by using tidal efficiency and time lag show large differences. The storage coefficients obtained by using time lags are close to the result of slug test, and that of the deeper well shows closer value by slug test. The tidal efficiency is unsatisfied to apply in the tidal method because of an effect of phreatic aquifer and the vertical flow of groundwater through fractured confining bed. This tidal method can be an economical and effective way to define the parameter by considering the location of observation well and hydrogeologic characteristics of a coastal aquifer.

In this Paper, an adaptive microphone array system with self-delay estimator is proposed. By showing that the adaptive blocking matrix (ABM) of the generalized sidelobe canceller (GSC) can estimate the relative time delay between each sensor, the proposed system utilizes the ABM not only for blocking target components in the blocked signal path, but also for estimating the relative time delay. Therefore, the proposed system requires only the GSC structure while maintaining the system performance similar to the conventional system using an additional time delay estimator as a preprocessor. Simulation results show that the performance of the proposed system is identical to the conventional system that uses an additional time delay estimation module.

This paper proposed a control algorithm to compensate the delay time to improve the signal to noise, and the proposed control algorithm estimate the target information to apply the continuous wave radar equation. The proposed control algorithm improves the output signal of each array element bv multiplying the weight of the receive signal to the signal to noise ratio. Radar radiate a signal in spatial and the target information is estimated by the echoed signal from the target. But the signal in the wireless communication environment occurs the delay time due to the multipath which appear human and natural structures. It is difficult to accurately estimate the desired information because of the degradation for the system performance due to the interference signal and the signal distortion. The target information can be improved by compensating the delay signal to apply the weight to the received signal by using the uniform linear array antenna. As a simulation result, we show that the performance of the proposed control algorithm and the non-compensated delay time are compared. The proposed control algorithm proved that the target distance estimation information is improved.
Many methods have been studied to estimate the time delay between incoming signals to two receivers. In the case of the method based on the channel estimation technique, the relative delay between the input signals of the two receivers is estimated as an impulse response of the channel between the two signals. In this case, the characteristic of the channel has sparsity. Most of the existing methods do not take advantage of the channel sparseness. In this paper, we propose a time delay estimation method using BPD (Basis Pursuit Denoising) optimization technique, which is one of the sparse signal optimization methods, in order to utilize the channel sparseness. Compared with the existing GCC (Generalized Cross Correlation) method, adaptive eigen decomposition method and RZA-LMS (Reweighted Zero-Attracting Least Mean Square), the proposed method shows that it can mitigate the threshold phenomenon even under a white Gaussian source, a colored signal source and oceanic mammal sound source.
In this paper, we propose a Time Delay Traceback Scheme for the TDOA location estimation performance enhancement in NLOS environment and analyze the performance in various conditions. We place multiple readers in a square($300m{\times}300m$) searching area for reuse of received signal. Also, we use more active NLOS reader detection methode for NLOS error mitigation. when NLOS time delay 70 m, the number of the NLOS reader is 3 and the received sub-blinks number 3, proposed time delay trace-back scheme improve the RMSE about 16 m. From these results, we confirm that the proposed time delay traceback scheme is well-suited for the high precision location estimation to offer the location based service.
This paper proposes an algorithm that estimates three dimensional array shape calibration about the bottom-mounted sensor array. under the assumption that the active sources are in the far-field with unknown positions. Under some assumptions. we calculate the sensor positions via an algebraic solutions of a least squares problem that the linear equations are related to the sensor positions and directions or arrival. We give examples of algorithm performance from both computer simulations and sea test. We also illustrate the performance of sensor positions estimation as a function of time delay estimation variance and the distribution of the localizing sources.

This study aims to propose a method for the estimation of operational delay cost using transportation card data in bus accidents. Average operational delay time from bus accidents was surveyed among 12 bus companies through an interview method. Then, the operational delay cost was estimated using actual traffic accident data and transportation card data. Results showed that average loss time per bus accident was found to be 45 minutes. In addition, total occupancy of 659 was estimated for the accidents investigated using transportation card data, resulting a total loss time of 494.25 hours. An estimated operational delay cost was 186.9 thousand won per accident, which was 6.37% of social agency cost. The magnitude of this number implied that operational delay cost may have a significant impact on traffic accident cost if included.
