  • In this thesis, a new measurement system is implemented for depth data extraction based on the camera calibration of the known pattern. The relation between 3D world coordinate and 2D image coordinate is analyzed. A new camera calibration algorithm is established from the analysis and then, the internal variables and external variables of the CCD camera are obtained. Suppose that the measurement plane is horizontal plane, from the 2D plane equation and coordinate transformation equation the approximation values corresponding minimum values using Newton-Rabbson method is obtained and they are stored into the look-up table for real time processing . A slit laser light is projected onto the object, and a 2D image obtained on the x-z plane in the measurement system. A 3D shape image can be obtained as the 2D (x-z)images are continuously acquired, during the object is moving to the y direction. The 3D shape images are displayed on computer monitor by use of OpenGL software. In a measuremental result, we found that the resolution of pixels have $\pm$ 1% of error in depth data. It seems that the error components are due to the vibration of mechanic and optical system. We expect that the measurement system need some of mechanic stability and precision optical system in order to improve the system.

  • This paper presents the 3-D profile measurement system of live human faces, which was developed specially for 'KUMDORI sculptor robot' of the '93 Taejon Exposition. '93 Taejon EXPO. The basic principle for measurement adopts the slit beam projection which is a method of measuring 3-D surface profiles using geometric optics between the slit beam and the CCD camera. Since the slit beam projection consumes long measuring time, it is unfit to measure the 3-D profiles of living objects as human. Therefore, the projection type slit beam method which consumes short measuring time is newly suggested. And an algorithm to reconstruct the 3-D profile from the deformed images using finite approximated calibration is suggested and practically implemented. The projection type slit beam method was applied to spectators in a period of '93 Taejon EXPO. The measurement results show that the technique is suitable for 3-D face profile measurement on a living body.

  • A method of measuring the length of defects on the wall and restructuring the defect image is proposed based on the estimation algorithm of a camera orientation, which uses the declination angle of a laser slit beam. The estimation algorithm of the horizontally inclined angle of CCD camera adopts a 3-dimensional coordinate transformation of the image plane where both the laser beam and the original image of the defects exist. The estimation equation is obtained by using the information of the beam projected on the wall and the parameters of this equation are experimentally obtained. With this algorithm, the original image of the defect can be reconstructed as an image normal to the wall. From the result of a series of experiments, the measuring accuracy of the defect is measured within 0.5% error bound of real defect size under 30 degree of the horizontally inclined angle. The proposed algorithm provides the method of reconstructing the image taken at any arbitrary horizontally inclined angle as the image normal as the wall and thus, it enables the accurate measurement of the defect lengths by using a single camera and a laser slit beam.

  • An experimental study was performed to investigate the chemiluminescence characteristics in the spray combustion of ultransonically atomized kerosene. The radical intensity of the spray flame was measured using an ICCD camera and the amount of fuel consumed was obtained by a precise flow-rate measurement technique during combustion. Fuel consumption increased linearly with the increase in carrier-gas flow rate, and typical group combustion, which is a characteristic of spray combustion, was observed. It was found from the analysis of chemiluminescence that the maximum emission intensities of OH and CH radicals decrease, and they move downstream resulting in the increase in a vivid reaction zone as the spray flow rate increases.

  • A study was conducted to analyze the behavioral change of the kerosene flame ultrasonically-atomized under an ultrasonic standing-wave. Combustion region was visualized through DSLR, ICCD camera and the Schlieren photography with high-speed camera. The fuel consumption was measured by a precise scale. As a result, in the case of ultrasonic standing-wave excitation, it was observed that the intensity of OH radical(OH*) was enhanced and optimal combustion condition was formed around the upper edge of the standing-wave field.

  • A study was conducted to scrutinize the behavior of the ultrasonically-atomized kerosene lifted-flame according to the carrier gas flow-rate and position of ultrasonic standing wave (USW). The combustion region of the kerosene-aerosol generated through a slit-jet nozzle was visualized using a DSLR, ICCD, high-speed camera, and Schlieren technique, and the fuel consumption was measured by using a precision balance. As a result, the flame was confined within the region bounded by the USW-field, and the fuel consumption decreased as the position of the USW field increased.

  • A Compton X-ray backscatter technique has been developed to quantitatively assess impact damage in quasi-isotropic laminated composites made by a drop-weight tester. X-ray backscatter imaging system with a slit-type camera is constructed to obtain a cross-sectional profile of impact-damaged laminated composites from the electron-density variation of the cross section. A nonlinear scattering model based on Boltsman equation is introduced to compute Compton X-ray backscattering field for the defect assessment. An adaptive filter is also used to reduce noises from many sources including quantum noise and irregular distributions of fibers and matrix in composites. Delaminations masked or distorted by the first delamination are detected and characterized effectively by the Compton X-ray backscatter technique, both in width and location, by application of error minimization algorithm.

  • Purpose: The present study aimed to investigate the effects of corneal eccentricity and shape on the rotational pattern of toric soft lens by the postural change of lens wearers. Methods: The corneal eccentricity of 41 eyes (aged 20s) having -1.0 D with-the-rule corneal astigmatism (WRCA) was measured, and then toric soft lenses were fitted with the amount of total astigmatism. In lying and straight postures, the rotation of toric soft lenses was recorded by a camera attached to slitlamp and analyzed. Results: Most toric soft lens designed with accelerated stabilization rotated to the temporal direction, which was the lying position direction, regardless of corneal eccentricity, and some lenses rotated to the nasal direction for high corneal eccentricity and corneal type of asymmetric bowtie. There was no correlation between the amount of rotation and corneal eccentricity right after of contact lens wearing in straight and lying posture, however, the amount of rotation was the greater for the cornea with the higher eccentricity after the subjects laying down for some period. The speed of lens rotation started to decrease after the subjects laying down, but the speed was not different according to corneal eccentricity difference. The amount of lens rotation for symmetric and asymmetric bowtie-typed corneas increased more than it for oval-typed cornea, and it was same even with time elapsing. The speed of lens rotation in lying posture was the slowest in asymmetric bowtie-typed cornea compared with other corneal types. Conclusions: From the present study, it was revealed that the rotational pattern of toric soft lens was affected by corneal eccentricity and corneal shape when the wearer's posture changed. Thus, it should be considered for the development of the fitting guideline and the design of toric soft lens.
