Thickening of Activated Sludge Using Low Pressure Flotation Pilot System (파일롯 규모의 저압형 부상장치를 이용한 하수슬러지 농축에 관한 연구)

  • Low pressure air flotation (LAF) pilot plant for sludge thickening was installed in Chung Nam N.S. municipal waste water treatment plant to verify its application possibility. Effects of operating conditions such as coagulant dosages and microbubble water ratio on thickening of the mixed sludge were examined. Microbubbles which were generated in the chamber of $1.5kgf/cm^2$ by high speed collision method with foaming agent were used to float sludge. Solid loading of $30kg/m^2/hr$, solid contents in thickened sludge of 60,300 mg/L and SS removal efficiency of 99% were obtained through long period operating LAF in conditions of mixed sludge concentration of 14,400 mg/L, coagulant dosage of 27.6 mg/L, foaming agent addition of 4.0 mg/L and microbubble water injection ratio of 9.7%.

Effect of Chemical Conditioning on Flotation and Thickening Efficiencies of Sewage Sludge (화학적인 개량이 하수슬러지의 부상농축효율에 미치는 영향)

  • Chemical sludge conditioning is widely used to improve the dewatering efficiency. It is treated with commonly used conditioners, and then thickened and dewatered with a mechanical device. This paper aims to examine the flotation and thickening efficiencies of sewage sludge for conditioning conditions, such as unaerobic storage time, kinds of coagulant and dosages, and flotation conditions, such as sludge concentration and A/S ratio, using an dissolved air flotation apparatus. Experimental results showed that the specific surface area and specific resistance to filtration (SRF) were significantly increased and the flotation and thickening efficiencies were decreased with anaerobic storage time. However, the flotation and thickening efficiencies faintly decreased in sewage sludges conditioned as $Al_2(SO_4)_3$, $Fe_2(SO_4)_3$, and PSO-M. Flotation and thickening efficiencies in conditioned sewage sludge could be sustained up to 96% at A/S ratio of 0.01 mL/mg or over.

  • The study presents sewage sludge flotation and thickening efficiencies which changes chemical conditioning and mixing conditions using a flotation thickening system with a microbubble generating pump. Flotation and thickening of sewage sludge are shown to significantly influence kinds of coagulants more than Gt values. It is found that the flotation and thickening efficiencies for kinds of coagulants follows the order: $Al_2(SO_4)_3$ < PSO-M < $Fe_2(SO_4)_3$. We shows that the flotation thickening system(1.6 $m^3$/d) could be continuously operated during two hours on operation conditions in the lab-scale experiments. Sludge thickening efficiency in the A/S ratio of 0.029 - 0.019 mL/mg was found to be very efficient, reaching to 300.0~335.7%.

기계적 교반이 팽화슬러지 부상에 미치는 영향

  • 20500 rpm에서 10분 교반까지 계면높이는 감소하였으나 10분 이상의 시간에서는 계면 높이가 증가하는 경향을 나타내었으며, 슬러지 농도도 10분까지 경향을 농축농도가 증가하지만 그 이상의 교반시간에서는 농도가 서서히 감소되는 경향을 나타내었다. Homogenizer의 교반에 의한 최적조건에서의 부상효율은 약 10%의 효과가 있는 것으로 나타났다. Image analyser로 교반하지 않은 경우와 교반한 경우 슬러지의 sauter mean diameter를 측정한 결과 각각 631 $\mu$m와 427 $\mu$m로 나타나 슬러지 플록의 입경이 줄어든 것으로 나타났다. 슬러지의 함수율은 10분의 교반시간까지 조금 감소하였으나 10분 이상의 교반시간에서는 슬러지 함수율이 증가하여 60분에는 99.1%까지 증가하였다.

  • We have investigated biosorption kinetics and equilibrium of $Pb^2+$ and $Cr^2+$ using waste sludge, and separation efficiency of waste sludge by dissolved air flotation was evaluated in the various A/S ratio. The biosorption capacity and contact time were shown as a simulation of biosorption equilibrium and kinetics models. Biosorption equilibrium of the $Pb^2+$ and $Cr^2+$ onto the waste sludge could be fitted by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Redlich-Peterson, and Koble-Corrigan equation. The kinetics could be fitted by a pseudo-second-order rate equation more than a pseudo-first-order rate equation. The separation efficiency of waste sludge using DAF was kept above 90%.

  • An effective technique of sludge separation is required for concentrated activated sludge process. The dissolved-air flotation (DAF) has been shown to be efficient process for sludge separation. The factors affecting DAF process for activated sludge separation are type and concentration of sludge, air/solid ratio, ratio of pressurized water flow, pressure, sludge detention time, temperature, sludge and hydraulic loading rate, recycle flow rate of sludge and type and quantity of chemical aid. In order to study the optimal operation condition for sludge separation, the influence factors such as type and concentration of sludge, ratio of pressurized water flow and pressure are investigated by the batch and continuous reactor experiments of DAF and sedimentation test. By the experimental investigation, the results are as follows; 1. For the bulking and concentrated sludge, DAF is more effective than sedimentation for the sludge separation. 2. In DAF, the critical ratio of pressurized water flow exist. The critical value varies with the pressure in the tank. That is, according to the pressure changes from 3 to $5kg/cm^2$, the critical value varies from 0.25 to 0.67 accordingly. 3. Pressure affects the ratio of pressurized water flow, but it does not show any influence upon the DAF efficiency directly. 4. Continuous experimental results was not better than those of batch.

Effect of Oyster Shell Addition on the Dissolved Air Flotation and Sedimentation of Bulking Sludge (팽화슬러지의 용존공기부상과 침전에 미치는 굴패각 첨가의 영향)

  • The objective of this study is to examine the effect of the waste oyster shell powder as the addition agent in bulking sludge thickening of paper manufacturing plant using DAF(Dissolved Air Flotation) and gravitational sedimentation. The effect of parameters such as dosage and size distribution of oyster shell were examined. The results showed that the optimum dosage of mixed oyster shell(size range : $\sim250{\mu}m$) was 0.8 g/L. The oyster shell addition of 5.0 g/L in sedimentation process was increased thickening concentration of 3.25 times. When 5.0 g/L of oyster shell was added in DAF process, water content of sludge was decreased from 95.5% to 82.7% in dewatering process using Buchner funnel test device. When size of oyster shell was divided four ranges($\sim53{\mu}m$, $53\sim106{\mu}m$, $106\sim150{\mu}m$, $150\sim250{\mu}m$), optimum size range for the flotation and dewatering was $53\sim106{\mu}m$.

  • A technique which could collect the traditional and the industrial hanji fibrous sludge efficiently from wastewater using a cationic surfactant cetyltrimethylammonium chloride (CTAC) was developed. When the concentration of CTAC was $1{\mu}g/mL$ in wastewater that the amount of the traditional hanji fibrous sludge was about 0.08 g/L, the collecting yield was more than 95% and the collecting time was less than 30 sec. When only CTAC was used to collect the industrial hanji fibrous sludge, about 90% of collecting yield was obtained at more than $15{\mu}g/mL$ CTAC. But the sludge layer at the surface of solution was not stabilized and the flotation time was relatively longer. And, when $5{\mu}g/mL$ CTAC and various amount of PAMID$^{(R)}$ was added to the industrial hanji sludge, the collecting yield was increased and sludge layer also was more stabilized. But the collecting yield was higher in the traditional hanji sludge than in the industrial hanji sludge.

  • Full scale livestock wastewater treatment plant (100 t/d) was constructed and operated to develop compact and cost effective treatment process for public plant as well as individual farm. Liquid form of livestock wastewater after belt press filter was treated through MBR/NF/RO. NF/RO brine water was mixed with livestock wastewater sludge and treated using denitrification, coagulation and air flotation process. Mixed effluent of NF/RO and air flotation meet public livestock wastewater treatment standard, BOD, T-N and T-P, 30 mg/L, 60 mg/L, 8 mg/L below, respectively. Condensed sludge of air flotation returned belt press filter. Dewatered cake contained 90% water and could be used fertilizer after mixing sawdust.
