  • In a composite beam, a shear connector is installed to resist the horizontal shear on an interface between steel beams and reinforced concrete slabs. The steel-wire-integrated deck plate slab is commonly used at the wide section beam. Then vertical bars are installed at the upper wire of the ends of the steel truss girder to ensure safety during the construction. The new type of shear connector is made of deformed bar and steel plates, and must function as vertical bars but must have higher shear capacity. This paper examines the ways to develop and utilize this new shear connector. From the push-out experiments, a shear connector made of a continuous deformed bar and steel plate showed a higher shear capacity and ductility than a ${\phi}16$ stud connector, and functioned as a vertical bar.

  • This paper describes the results of an experimental study on the new type of encased composite beams that use deep deck plates, which could reduce the story height of buildings by controlling the bottom flange of steel beams. The profiled steel beam was thus developed. It was advantageous to the long span of the buildings. Seven full-scale specimens were constructed, and simply supported bending tests were conducted on the encased composite beams with different steel plate thicknesses, with and without shear studs, reinforcing bars, and web openings. The test results showed that the encased composite beams that were developed in this study had sufficient composite action without additional shear connectors due to their inherent shear-bond effects between the steel beams and concrete.

  • Steel frames are increasingly used in commercial buildings. and most steel frames are designed to achieve composite action with the concrete floor slab. The advantages of 'composite construction' are now well understood in terms of structural economy. good performance in service. and ease of construction. But. these conventional composite construction system are difficult to apply steel framed apartment due to their large depth. So. in this study we developed Semi Slim Floor system which could reduce the overall depth of composite beam. Semi Slim Floor system is a method of steel frame multi-story building construction in which the structural depth of each floor is minimised by incorporating the steel floor beams within the depth of the concrete floor slab. Twelve composite slab specimens with different deck-type. slab width. with or without stud bault and concrete topping thickness were tested to evaluate the flexural capacity.

  • This paper provides the results of a study on the structural behavior of the composite slabs using the metal form deck plate. Cold-formed steel deck sections are used in many composite floor slab applications wherein the steel deck serves not only as the form for the concrete during construction but also as the principal tensile reinforcement for the bottom fiber of the composite slab. A total of 16 specimens are tested to clarify the composite action between the concrete and metal deck plate and to find the method to increase the composite effect, whether or not non-slip bars are used. The test results are summarized for the shear-bond capacities, deformation capacities, and failure modes for the specimens.

  • The advantages of composite construction are now well understood in terms of structural economy, good performance in service, and ease of construction. However, these conventional composite construction systems have some problems in application to steel framed buildings due to their large depth. So, in this study we executed an experimental test with the "Slim Floor"system which could reduce the overall depth of composite beam. Slim Floor system is a method of steel frame multi-story building construction in which the structural depth of each floor is minimized by incorporating the steel floor beams within the depth of the concrete floor slab. Presented herein is an experimental study that focuses on the flexural behaviour of the partially connected slim floor system with asymmetric steel beams encased in composite concrete slabs. Eight full-scale specimens were constructed and tested in this study with different steel beam height, slab width, with or without shear connection and concrete topping thickness. Observations from experiments indicated that the degree of shear connection without additional shear connection was $0.53{\sim}0.95$ times that of the full shear connection due to inherent mechnical and chemical bond stress.

  • This study is to explore floor impact sound and sound insulation of reinforced concrete structure with void-deck slab system which combines polystyrene void foam and T-shaped steel deck plate. A void-deck slab system can effectively reduce the amount of concrete used and hence the mass of a reinforced concrete slab. Also void slab system has dynamically favorable for bending. Three-bay 2-story building was constructed as a mock up test specimen using void-deck slab system and floor impact sound was measured to valuate sound insulation performance. Light weight floor impact and heavy weight floor impact were investigated. Light weight floor impact pressure levels were 32dB, 28dB, and 29db at representative locations which are $1^{st}$ level in the floor impact sound insulation performance grading system. The heavy-weight floor impact pressure levels were 44dB, 45dB, and 43dB at representative locations which are $2^{nd}$ level in the floor impact sound insulation performance grading system. Therefore void-deck slab system can be used in public housing apartment building in terms of not only effectively reduced construction materials but also floor impact sound insulation.

  • This paper reported the temperature history of concrete placed at deck plate slab under cold climate condition by varying with surface insulating type. No curing sheet and simple insulation curing including non-woven fabric, double layer bubble sheet, the combination of double layer bubble sheet and non-woven fabric dropped temperature below zero within 24 hours, which caused frost damage at early age. On the other hand, the combination of double layer bubble sheet and non-woven fabric and double layer bubble sheet and styrofoam maintained minimum temperature above $4^{\circ}C\;and\;8^{\circ}C$, respectively. Based on core test results compressive strength of concrete with the combination of double layer bubble sheet and non-woven fabric and double layer bubble sheet and styrofoam was higher than those with other curing method due to good insulation effect.

  • As the requirement of high-rise buildings in big cities increases, steel structural system becomes more popular in spite of the relatively higher material cost compared to that of the concrete structural system. Most of the steel structure adopts metal deck floor system because of the easiness in construction. However, the metal deck floor system has a weakness on vibration which became very important factor in office buildings, hotels and residential buildings as the more sensitive machines being used. Therefore, most, of the building codes in many countries restrict the natural frequency of the each floor should be higher than or equal to 15 Hz. Floor vibration of the KEM deck composite floor system which has been , developed recently from the engineers and scientists in Korea was measured. Also, the simplified analytical derivation of natural frequency for each floor was studied according to the measured natural frequency for each different boundary condition of the floor. As the length of the slab gets bigger, the natural frequency of the slab becomes lower even though the structural designer still considers it as a one-way slab.

  • With steel and concrete composite beams, the incomplete interaction between the steel and the concrete slab leads to an appreciable increase in beam deflections. Moreover, encased composite beams using a deep deck plate or hollow-core PC slabs are critical to deflection due to their inherent geometry. In this paper, by using the calculation tools that were developed for a previous study on the deflection of encased composite beams considering the slip effects and load-slip curve, the shear bond stress and additional deflection induced due to interface slip of the encased composite beam are presented. It was found that the slip effects significantly contribute to the encased composite beam deflections and result in stiffness reduction of up to 30% compared to that of full shear interaction beams. The predicted results were compared with the measurement of 18 specimens tested in this study, and comparisons show a high degree of accuracy, within 6%.

  • Slimfloor composite-beam systems could considerably reduce the story height of a building if the steel beam would be installed deep into the concrete floor slab. However, as the depth of the steel beam's installation is limited, it cannot cope with the various demands of building systems. To address this problem, a profiled steel beam section that can control the depth of the steel beam's and slabs' installation was developed in this study. Presented herein are the results of an experiment that was conducted focusing on the flexural behavior of the partially connected composite beams with profiled steel beams encased in composite concrete slabs. Five full-scale specimens with different slab types, with or without shear connection and reinforcement bars, were constructed and tested in this study. As a result, the shear bond stress without an additional shear connection was found to be $0.20{\sim}0.76N/mm^2$due to the inherent mechanical and chemical bond stress.
