  • Indoor fire hydrant facilities and sprinkler system applied to the initial fire suppression for buildings' interior fire are pivotal roles in extinguishing the fire in the early stage. The roof shapes of recent buildings combined with distinctive local culture and design are being constructed. Distinctive roof forms, i.e. gable roof buildings are planned and built, View point planning with the roof gardens also restricts measurement of the discharge pressure on the indoor fire hydrant, It is too narrow to gauge the water discharge pressure with deploying up to 5 water hoses. To resolve these problems improvement for the efficient management of indoor fire hydrant system and the effective early stage flame extinguishment is suggested.

  • This study suggested the problems and their improvement measures for the operation of fire detectors and sprinkler heads installed at apartment houses. According to a census on population and housing in 2010, apartment houses account for 71.6% of the total housing facilities. And by fire statistics data of the National Emergency Management Agency, approximately 25.0% of fire accidents and 46.4% of casualties occur at apartment houses every year. Therefore, this study conducted for identifying the causes and characteristics of fire to establish the fire safety improvement measures for apartment houses. And this study was carried out virtual fire simulation at domestic apartment houses. The scenario of the simulation contains a comparative analysis on the operation time of standard sprinkler heads and residential sprinkler heads, heat detectors and smoke detectors. As a result of simulation, it was found that standard sprinkler heads and heat detectors installed at the existing apartment houses should be replaced with residential sprinkler heads and smoke detectors for rapid fire suppression. In addition, sprinkler systems should be considered to be installed for excluded floor at apartment houses. Especially, it is necessary to construct remote inspect systems like advanced countries for efficiency of apartment houses safety management.

  • Our country automatic wet pipe sprinkler system of hydraulically designed system has not deviated from the pipe regulation process, therefore we face limitations when using an independent method to hydraulically designed system. Therefore. after reviewing a developed country's methods using the drainage-density concept, we found it necessary for our country to introduce the drainage-density concept. Currently, under the National Fire Safety Codes(NFSC), this does not solve the problem and the limitation of hydraulically designed system because different problems arise depending on where the head was installed. To make improvements, first, such as the developed country, overcome the difference by introducing the drainage-density concept to determine the amount of drainage. Second, by using diverse head caliber and decreasing the limits on the amounts of distribution, we can expect a leveling off of the drainage density. Third, using the increase of hydraulically designed system through the application of the rule to hydraulically designed system, finally, development to performance based fire protection design.

  • The domestic wooden cultural properties applied to the sprinkler extinguishing system was confirmed extinguishing performance through fire experiments. Consists of wooden cultural properties of a fire, a flammable material is vulnerable in terms of. The scale of fire will occur to vary appearance of the initial fire in case of arson. Sprinkler nozzles of the characteristics, the discharging pressure is 1 bar and the flow rate is 80 lpm, applied in this experiment. Fire performance experiments were tested in two separated in each of the scale of the fire and cultural properties. Fire extinguishing performance test results was low in high ceilings and two or more units of the fire scale. Fire growth environment of the actual wooden cultural properties to experimental models when you consider that it is more vulnerable, sprinkler extinguishing system is required sufficient verification in order to apply fire protection of the wooden cultural properties.
