  • This study presents a dynamic simulation of a purse seine net behavior Mathematical model suitable for purse seining, which is based on data from a series of previous simulations, various field experiments, is modelized as a set of mass-spring system. In this model, a number of meshes are approximated as one mass point, each of which connected to its neighbors by massless springs, the equations of motion are derived from considering internal force from the springs and external forces such as resistance and gravitation. This simulation shows the quantitative state on every mass point of the net and purse line during the shooting and pursing phases. So it is possible that performance of a purse seine net be analyzed using various and evolving parameters such as the shooting speed, the hauling speed, the size or type of the sinker, float and twine, also the hanging ratio etc.

  • In this paper, numerical simulations are performed on the lock-in phenomena of vortex induced vibration(VIV) of a two dimensional cylinder. A deforming grid as well as a rigidly moving grid are used to simulate the movement of the cylinder. The grid deformation is accomplished by the linear spring analogy. Converged solutions, which are obtained by controling the grid size and the non-dimensional time step, are used for comparison and validation of the analysis results. Moreover, the efficiency and the accuracy of the coupling methods for fluid-structure interaction are examined.

  • LG Electronics developed linear compressors for a household refrigerator which can reduce energy consumption up to $24\%$ by only Drop-ln instead of a conventional reciprocating compressor. The linear compressor is composed of a linear oscillating motor, a piston directly coupled with the linear motor, a cylinder and the specific discharge system of LG. Because of this free-piston structure, the position of the piston can be changeable according to the voltage variation, load variation and so on. By this reason, LG linear compressor has been in need of an additional unit to control the position of the free-piston stably. In this paper we will introduce the innovative technology which is able to operate the linear compressor without controlling the piston position like a conventional reciprocating compressor.

  • The shock absorber with magnetic effect is suggested for a lunar lander. The shock absorber consists of a metal tube, a piston rod, and several permanent magnets moved by a piston rod in the tube, and the shock energy can be dispersed and dissipated by magnetic effects such as the magnetic force existed between a metal and magnets and the eddy current effect generated by a relative motion with a conductor and magnets. Besides, the shock-absorbing effect similar to that of a coil spring can be obtained by arranging the magnets in line, which are facing the same polar each other. The device has a very simple structure and is usable in space due to the unnecessariness of any oil or gas. The shock absorber was designed and manufactured for experiments and its spring and damping characteristics were studied by the theoretical, analytical and experimental methods.

  • Purpose: The Air Spring Damper System (ASDS) is proposed when existing concrete structures that have not been seismic resistant for economic and technical reasons or low-rise concrete structures that are difficult to earthquake. Method: To conduct a study on the damping force antigen in the kinetic equation of free vibration, we analyze whether this device has damping ability as a damper experimentally and theoretically, and examine the possibility of field application. Result: The air damper system is considered to be more economical than steel hysteresis dampers even if the number of dampers increases due to its easy manufacture and construction and low restrictions on shape, size, material, etc. Conclusion: In an air spring damper system, it is essential to reduce the diameter of the air inlet/outlet hole to improve the damping ratio, and in this case, if the diameter exceeds a certain lower limit, consideration of the compressibility of air is required, so further research is needed.

  • The motion of two-dimensional floating breakwaters with rectangular clots-section which are moored tautly in shallow water has been analyzed using a velocity potential matching method in which the fluid region is devided into sub-regions and then unknown coefficients of velocity potentials are determined from the continuity condition of mass and momentum flux of fluid at imaginary boundaries between sub-regions. The method originally suggested by Ijima et al.(1972) for the motion of submerged body has been modified to analyze the motion of floating body. The total fluid region has been divided into three sub-regions : the incident wave region, the transmitted wave region and the region below the floating breakwater. The restoring forces induced by mooring lines which were ignored by Ijima et al.(1972) have been modeled as linear springs with the initial tension effects. This method has been verified through the comparions with results from hydraulic expriments. Applications to various conditions of floating breakwater have been performed.

  • Dynamic response analysis in time dimain is conducted for floating bridges with discrete pontoons subject to spatial variation of ground motions. The Spatial variation of ground motions is considered with the coherency function model which represents wave passage, incoherence and local site effects. The superstructure of the bridge is represented by space frame and elastic catenary cable elements, the abutment us modelde with the spring element of FHWA guideline for considering soil structure interaction and the concept of retardation function is utilized to consider the frequency dependency of the hydrodynamic coefficients which are obtainde by boundary element method. multiple support excitations considering the spatial variation. The noticeable amplification of the response can be shown when the spatial variation of ground motions is incorporated in the anallysis of floating bridges.

  • Vehicle Holding Device(VHD) has a role that holding the launch vehicle on its launch pad until the engine therust reaches a steady condition. The analytical study of shape parameters and dynamic characteristics of hydraulic cylinders is carried out. The contraction of cylinder is considered as the major factor of releasing mechanism. Through the analysis, the decreasing of cylinder slit size and increasing initial charging pressure increase the contraction force. Through the transient analysis, cylinder load, displacement and inner pressure distribution are confirmed. The cylinder contraction force is converged to the cylinder external force when the cylinder starts to move. Also, the pressure distribution in the hydraulic cylinder is constant.

  • In many circumstances, it is desired to move a mass from one position to another without inducing and vibration in the mass being moved. Two such problems are considered here : the motion of a mass initiated by another mass, nd the motion of a pendulum initiated by the specified motion of its support. In each case, it is dosired that the system start at rest and come to rest in the second position. A simple strategy for the specified motion is given here. The method is motivated by engine cam-follower design. The force required to move the system in question is determined as well as the maximum value of the force required(and the times at which these forces take place).
