  • Despite the global promotion of Smart City, there is currently no standard for smart water grid development, and it is not possible to judge the success of Smart City. There is a clear need to establish the requirements and goals of the Smart Water Grid and accurately diagnose and improve the limitations and problems of the existing Smart Water Grid. For this purpose, it is very important to use the index suitable for Smart Water Grid goals. In this study, we developed Smart Water Grid Index which can be used to evaluate the target measurement and attainment of Smart Water Grid and can be utilized based on the implementation plan for Smart Water Grid in the future. Through the development of the Smart Water Grid Key Performance Index (SWG KPI), we will lay the groundwork for continuous capacity evaluation of the Smart Water Grid and improve the reliability of the Index. It is expected that it will be possible to prepare and evaluate a Challenge Evaluation Card for the planned Smart Water Grid by providing an evaluation table for grid competency evaluation.

  • The Stage-Gate is a market-oriented model that aims to launch new products on the market. Therefore, it can be appropriately introduced and applied to the operation and management of NSSCP, which is undergoing demonstration projects for Daegu and Siheung. In addition, smart cities have the characteristics of convergence and complex among various innovative technologies. When the Stage-Gate is introduced, the performance can be managed centering on the outcomes for each research institution. Therefore, the NSSCP is applying the Stage-Gate for the first time among national R&D projects to improve the quality of the research results and to demonstrate and commercialize them successfully. This paper reviews the operation results of the 1st and 2nd years when the State-Gate was introduced and analyzes the opinions of an R&D management agency, research institutes, and gate reviewers to present the supplementary and improvements for applying to the evaluation process for the next year. When operating the Stage-Gate by optimizing the situation for each project and being wary of inefficiencies caused by the rigid operation, it is expected that flexible evaluation for each outcome will be possible according to the convergence characteristics of smart cities.

  • The revolution of industry 4.0 is enabling us to build an intelligent connection society called smart cities. The use of renewable energy in particular solar energy is extremely important for modern society due to the growing power demand in smart cities, but its difficult to monitor and manage in each buildings since need to be deploy low energy sensors and information need to be transfer via wireless sensor network (WSN). The Internet of Things (IoT) / low-power wide-area (LPWA) is an emerging WSN technology, to collect and monitor data about environmental and physical electrical / electronics devices conditions in real time. However, providing power to IoT sensor end devices and other public electrical loads such as street lights, etc is an important challenging role because the sensor are usually battery powered and have a limited life time. In this paper, we proposes an efficient solar energy-based power management scheme for smart city based on IoT technology using LoRa wide-area network (LoRaWAN). This approach facilitates to maintain and prevent errors of solar panel based energy systems. The proposed solution maximizing output the power generated from solar panels system to distribute the power to the load and the grid. In this paper, we proved the efficiency of the proposed system with Simulink based system modeling and real-time emulation.

  • In Suwon, the overall hygiene of the city is threatened by the emergence of the rook(Corvus fugilegus) in the city. Rooks began to appear in November of 2016 and has continued to appear from November to March every year. In order to eradicate or to prepare an alternative habitat for rooks, this study aimed to identify the preferred habitat and specific environmental variables. Therefore, in this work, we aim to understand the predicted distribution of rooks in Suwon City with citizen science and through MaxENT, the most widely utilized habitat modeling using citizen science to analyze the preferred habitat of harmful tides appearing in urban areas. In this study, seven environmental variables were chosen: biotope group complex, building floor, vegetation, euclidean distance from farmland, euclidean distance from streetlamp, and euclidean distance from pole and DEM. Among the estimated models, after the time period of sunrise (08:00~18:00) the contribution percentage were as following: euclidean distance from arable land(39.2%), DEM(25.5%), euclidean distance from streetlamp(22.3%), euclidean distance from pole(7.1%), biotope group complex(4.9%), building floor(1%), vegetation(0%). In the time period after sunset(18:00~08:00) the contribution percentage were as following: biotope group complex(437.4%), euclidean distance from pole(26.8%), DEM(13.4%), euclidean distance from streetlamp(11.8%), euclidean distance from farmland(7.9%), building floor(1.4%), vegetation(1.3%).

  • In Korea, wetland policies are currently being pursued through long-term plans such as nationwide wetland surveys and wetland conservation basic plans. However, most policies focus on understanding the status of wetlands, such as their area, distribution, and biodiversity, and there is a lack of awareness regarding the need to conserve and manage wetland ecosystems as a single organism. Therefore, this study aims to identify potential riverine wetland sites that can be ecologically connected by considering functional aspects such as floodplain, biodiversity, habitat provision, and tourism resources. This study attempted to select a candidate site that could potentially provide ecological connectivity with three wetlands in the Nakdonggang River water system : Upo Wetland, Hwapocheon Wetland, and Junam Reservoir. 63 wetlands and 7 candidate sites located in 15 subwatersheds of the Nakdonggang River were analyzed, and the most suitable candidate site for ecological connectivity was selected based on the calculated scores. A suitability analysis was conducted using 9 evaluation factors to evaluate candidate sites, and the scoring method, using quantile, was applied to these factors. As a result, Upo2(Hopo) was selected as the most suitable site for ecological connectivity, receiving the highest score 36. Therefore, it is believed that Upo2(Hopo) can serve as a floodplain, habitat, biodiversity enhancer, and tourism resource while being the most suitable for ecological connectivity.
