Vehicle Voltage Stabilizing Module Using Supercapacitors (슈퍼캐패시터를 이용한 자동차 전압 안정화 모듈)

  • The performance of a passenger vehicle has been greatly improved recently owing to the intensive use of electronic controllers. Many components of a vehicle, including the engine, are controlled by electronic systems installed in the vehicle. Therefore, the electrical power required for such electronics has increased significantly. However, the electrical power generated by the vehicle's alternator, operated by the engine, is limited, and when the vehicle is started, a large instantaneous current is required. The voltage of the vehicle electrical system fluctuates to a very low level, then, it is gradually recovered. This case is very severe and can even cause damage to electronic systems. In this study, a voltage-stabilizing module comprising electric double layer supercapacitors, which could alleviate the voltage variation, was developed and tested.

Fabrication of Aluminum Powder Disk by a Template Method and Its Etching Condition for an Electrode of Hybrid Supercapacitor (Template 방법을 이용한 Hybrid Supercapacitor 전극용 알루미늄 분말 디스크 제조와 에칭 조건 연구)

  • Capacitance of a hybrid capacitor that has characteristics of both electrolyte capacitor and supercapacitor is determined by anode surface covered with oxide layer. In this study, optimal condition processes for anode to fabricate a high voltage hybrid capacitor was investigated. We mixed aluminum powder having mean particle size of $40{\mu}m$ with NaCl powders at weight ratio of 4 : 1 and prepared a disk type electrode after annealing at various temperature. After dissolving NaCl in $50^{\circ}C$ distilled water, heat treatment, eletropolishing, chemical treatment, and the first and the second etching of Al disk were conducted. In each process, capacitances and resistances of the disk measured by ac-impedance analyzer were compared to find its optimum treatment condition. Also, the surface morphology of treated disks were observed and compared by SEM. After the second etching, the Al disk was anodized at 365V to make an anode of hybrid supercapacitor that can be operated at 300V, Capacitance and resistance of the anodized Al disk electrode was compared with those of commercialized conventional aluminum electrolytic capacitor at different frequencies.

An Isolated Power System Based on Variable Speed Engine Generator with Super-capacitor (슈퍼캐패시터와 가변속 엔진발전기를 이용한 독립형 전원 시스템)

  • The variable speed engine generator set is interested for an isolated power system due to reduced fuel consumption and less emission. However, because of sluggish dynamic behavior of the internal combustion engine the power quality would be degraded during the sudden load power surge, where the power required by the load is not available by the engine due to the reduced engine speed. An isolated power system based on variable speed engine with a super-capacitor bank improves dynamic characteristics under sudden load change, and power quality, fuel consumption, and pollutants can be reduced remarkably. Also, it is verified by the computer simulation that the inverter of 3phase-4leg is compatible to the isolated power system with unbalanced load. In this paper, the feasibility of the system has been verified based on a 26kw commercial diesel engine system.

  • 소형화, 고신뢰성 그리고 고안정성을 갖는 차세대 전자, 통신용 및 의료용 전자 소자에 대한 요구의 증대에 따라 이의 개발이 가속화되고 있다. 이러한 개발에 있어서 핵심적 문제의 하나는 소자 구동을 위한 초소형 고출력 동력원의 개발이다. 이러한 요구 조건에 가장 잘 부합되는 초소형 동력원은 재료공학, 박-후막 공정 및 전기화학기술을 도입하여 제작되는 박막 전지이다. 박막 전지 기술은 재료공학기술, 나노 고정 기술, 박-후막제조기술, 전기화학기술, 마이크로공정기술, 반도체기술 및 집적화를 위한 시스템화 기술을 종합해야하는 기술로 전기, 전자 분야의 급속한 발전과 함께 진행되고 있는 통신, 전자기기 및 의료기기의 초소형화를 가능하게 하는 특징을 가지고 있다. 이 기술은 이차전지(또는 경우에 따라서는 박막형 슈퍼캐패시터와 하이브리드화) 등을 효과적으로 소형, 고출력 및 고안정화하는 기술이 핵심이며 박-후막형 전지의 최적 구동을 위한 시스템 및 나노 재료 기술에 의해서 구현되는 신 개념의 마이크로 파워 소스이다. 이번 발표에서는 박막 전지의 개발 배경과 몇 가지의 기술적 접근의 예를 제시하고자 한다. 특히 최근에는 박막 전지의 개발은 재료, 공정(후-박막 기술) 및 평가 기술 분야에 서의 기여가 매우 중요하다는 것을 인식하게 되었으며 이러한 과정에서 박막 전지의 개발은 기술적인 면에서 단순히 특정 단일 분야의 주도가 아닌 기술간 융합적 접근(예를 들어 재료와 반도체 공정 또는 이온 재료와 전자 재료 간의 융합)의 필요성이 매우 높아지고 있음을 제시하고자 한다.

Method of Minimizing ESS Capacity for Mitigating the Fluctuation of Wind Power Generation System (풍력발전의 출력 변동 저감을 위한 ESS 최소용량 산정기법)

  • In this paper, we have studied about minimizing the Energy Storage System (ESS) capacity for mitigating the fluctuation of Wind Turbine Generation System (WTGS) by using Electric Double Layer Capacitor (EDLC) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS). In this case, they have some different characteristics: The EDLC has the ability of generating the output power at high frequency. Thus, it is able to reduce the fluctuation of WTGS in spite of high cost. The BESS, by using Li-Ion battery, takes the advantage of high energy density, however it is limited to use at low frequency response. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations are carried out with the actual data of 2MW WTGS in case of worst fluctuation of WTGS is happened. By comparing simulation results, this method shows the excellent performance. Therefore, it is very useful for understanding and minimizing the ESS capacity for mitigating the fluctuation of WTGS.

Au-Ag Core Shell Nanowire Network for Highly Stretchable and Transparent Supercapacitor Applications (금-은 코어쉘 나노 와이어 제조 및 투명, 유연 슈퍼캐패시터 전극으로의 활용에 관한 연구)

  • Due to the latest research trend toward wearable energy devices, transparent and stretchable supercapacitors which can sustain their performance even under physical deformation have steadily attracted huge attention. Despite the Ag NW is the most promising candidate for fabrication of transparent and stretchable electronics, the electrochemical instability interrupts its application to development of the energy device. Here, we introduce a transparent and highly stretchable supercapacitor made by Au-Ag core shell NW network percolation electrode. The Au-Ag core shell NW synthesized by a simple solution process not only shows excellent electrical conductivity but also greatly enhanced chemical and electrochemical stability compare to pristine Ag NW. These outstanding properties of the Au-Ag core shell NW are attributed both to the core Ag NW and the Au protecting sheath layer. The proposed Au-Ag core shell NW based supercapacitor exhibits optical transmittance with outstanding mechanical stability withstanding 60% strain without any decrease of the performance. The supercapacitors connected in series are charged and discharged stable in 30% strain turning on a red LED. These notable results demonstrate the potential of the Au-Ag core shell NW as a strong candidate for development of wearable energy devices.

Fabrication and Characterization of Thin Film Supercapacitor using $WO_3$ ($WO_3$를 이용한 박막형 슈퍼캐패시터의 제작 및 특성 평가)

  • In this work, all solid-state thin film supercapacitor(TFSC) was fabricated using tungsten trioxide (WO$_3$) with a structure WO$_3$/LiPON/WO$_3$/Pt/TiO$_2$/Si (substrate). After TiO$_2$ was deposited on Si(100) wafer by d.c. reactive sputtering, the Pt current collector films were grown on TiO$_2$glue layer without breaking vacuum by d.c. sputtering. Fabrication conditions of WO$_3$ thin film were such that substrate temperature, working pressure, gas ratio of $O_2$/Ar and r.f. power were room temperature, 5 mTorr, 20% (O$_2$(8sccm)/Ar(32sccm)) and 200W, respectively. LiPON electrolyte film were grown on the WO$_3$ film using r.f. magnetron sputtering at room temperature. The XRD pattern of the as-deposited WO$_3$ thin film were shown no crystalline peak (amorphous). The SEM image of as-deposited WO$_3$ thin film showed that the surface is smooth and uniform. The capacitiy of as-fabricated TFSC was 0$\times$10$^{-2}$ F/$\textrm{cm}^2$-${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$.

A Facile synthesis of CoS by Successive Ionic Layer Adsorption and Reaction (SILAR) Process for Supercapacitors (스테인리스강 기판에 연속 이온 층 흡착 및 반응 (SILAR) 공정을 통한 CoS 코팅 및 슈퍼캐패시터 전극 특성)

  • In this study, the cobalt sulfide (CoS) nanosheet on stainless steel as a supercapacitor electrode is synthesized by using a facile successive ionic layer adsorption reaction (SILAR) method. The number of cycles for dipping and rinsing can control the nanosheet thickness of CoS on stainless steel. Field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) showed a layer structure of CoS particles coupled as agglomeration. And x-ray diffraction (XRD) showed the crystallinity of the CoS nanosheet. To investigate the characteristics of the CoS nanosheet electrode as the supercapacitor, analysis of electrochemical measurement was conducted. Finally, the CoS nanosheet of 70cycles on stainless steel shows the specific capacitance ($44.25mF/cm^2$ at $0.25mA/cm^2$) with electrochemical stability of 78.5% over during 2000cycles.

  • Two dimensional transition metal carbides and/or nitrides, known as MXenes, are a promising electrode material in energy storage due to their excellent electrical conductivity, outstanding electrochemical performance, and abundant functional groups on the surface. Use of $Ti_3C_2$ as electrode material has significantly enhanced electrochemical performance by providing more chemically active interfaces, short ion-diffusion lengths, and improved charge transport kinetics. Here, we reports the efficient method to synthesize $Ti_3C_2$ from MAX phase, and opens new avenues for developing MXene based electrode materials for Lithium-Ion batteries.

Development of Power Management Strategies for a Compound Hybrid Excavator (복합형 하이브리드 굴삭기를 위한 동력전달계 제어기법 연구)

  • This paper presents the power management strategies for a compound hybrid excavator. The compound hybrid excavator has been replaced the hydraulic swing motor to the electric swing motor. This excavator requires a proper control algorithm to regulate the energy flow between the mechanical coupling and the electric devices. The controller should improve fuel economy and maintain the super capacitor voltage within a proper range. A thermostat controller and ECMS controller are designed such that these objectives can be achieved. The thermostat controller regulates the power of the engine-assist motor on the basis of the super capacitor voltage, and the ECMS controller determines it using the real-time fuel minimization strategy based on the concept of equivalent fuel. Simulation results showed that by using the hybrid excavator, the fuel economy becomes about 20% higher than that obtained using the conventional excavator and that the ECMS controller outperforms the thermostat controller.
