Study on High Forage Production in Double Cropping Systems with Barley and Corn at paddy field in Middle Region (청보리-옥수수 작부체계시 조사료 최대생산을 위한 청보리 수확시기 구명)

  • This experiment was carried out to determine the harvesting day after heading of barley for highest total forage yield in double cropping with corn at paddy field in middle region. The fresh barley yield was the highest at the harvest of 20 days after heading, but the dry matter yield and TDN yield were the highest at the harvest of 25 days after heading because of higher dry matter rate. The dry matter yield of corn after the harvest of 25 days after heading was decreased about 16 percent than that of the check, sowing on april 25. But total fresh yield of corn monoculture was lower about 31 percent, and decreased 28 percent of dry matter and 23 percent of TDN yield, respectively, than that of the double cropping system with corn and barley. In double cropping system at paddy field, the total forage yield was the highest at the harvest of 25 days after heading of barley and grew corn subsequently. Although yield of corn was reduced by late sowing, the total forage yield was increased by double cropping system compared with corn monoculture.

  • 맥주보리는 수확시기와 수확 후 관리방법에 따라 품질의 차이가 매우 크다. 특히 맥주보리는 제맥(보리를 발아시켜 건조)이라는 과정을 거쳐 맥주를 만들기 때문에 발아율이 무엇보다 중요하다. 하지만 맥주보리의 수매제도가 색택 위주의 외관을 보고 품질등급을 정한다. 따라서 농가에서는 완숙 이전에 수확하여 고온에 건조시켜 출하하기 때문에 발아율이 저하되는 등 맥주보리 원맥의 품질을 크게 떨어뜨리는 원인이 되고 있다. 이에 맥주보리의 알맞은 수확시기와 수확 후 관리방법을 소개하여 양질의 원액생산에 도움을 드리고자 한다.

Effects of Small Scale Post-Harvest Facility and Hygiene Education on the Level of Microbial Safety in Korean Leeks Production (영양부추 생산농가의 소규모 수확후 처리시설 적용과 위생교육에 따른 미생물학적 안전성 향상 효과)

  • The purposes of this study were to develop a small scale post-harvest facility, and consequently to evaluate the effects of applying the facility along with hygiene education on the level of microbial safety in Korean leeks production. A total of 135 samples were collected at three Korean leeks farms in Yangju, Gyeonggi province. Food safety indicators (Aerobic plate count (APC), coliform count, and Escherichia coli) and foodborne pathogens (E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, and Bacillus cereus) on/in the samples were assessed. The microbial load measured as APC with harvesting tools such as comb, chopping board, and knife, at the farms where the small scale post-harvest facility had been operated (Farms A and B) was lower than that at another farm having no post-harvest facility (Farm C) by 1.44~2.33 log CFU / $100cm^2$. Moreover, the chopping board from Farm C was observed being contaminated with B. cereus at 6.03 log CFU / $100cm^2$. The coliform counts from the samples increased by 0.57~1.89 log CFU/g after leeks was submerged in ground water for washing. E. coli was recovered from leeks, soil, and the ground water used in the washing process, while no E. coli O157:H7, Salmonella spp., and L. monocytogenes was detected. Our results indicated that the small scale post-harvest facility developed in this study as well as the hygiene education played an important role in enhancing the level of microbial food safety in the leeks production environment. However, a disinfection technique could be needed during the washing step in order to prevent a potential contamination.

Quality Characteristics of Malts and Sikhye Made from Barley and Wheat Varieties Grown in Korea (국내 육성 보리와 밀 품종별 엿기름 및 식혜의 품질 특성)

  • Sikhye is a traditional rice beverage, produced from steamed rice, barley or wheat malt and water. Nine varieties of barley and seven varieties of wheat cultivars were investigated and compared quality characteristics, diastatic power, and activities of ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-Amylase. For barley malt, the crude lipid and protein content of malt 1.74~2.42% and 10.71~14.36%, respectively. Also, the crude lipid and protein content for wheat malt 1.57~1.71% and 10.07~13.59%, respectively. The 'Dahyang' barley showed the highest diastatic power with $117.61^{\circ}L$, while for wheat, 'Baegjoong' produced the highest diastatic power with $85.25^{\circ}L$. The enzymatic activities, ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-Amylase for barley cultivar was $110.17{\sim}214.70{\mu}nit/g$ and $869.73{\sim}1,638.43{\mu}nit/g$, respectively. Likewise, ${\alpha}$- and ${\beta}$-Amylase for wheat cultivar was $73.19{\sim}132.23{\mu}nit/g$ and $726.70{\sim}889.30{\mu}nit/g$, respectively. The highest sugar content of Sikhye from barley was $11.10^{\circ}Bx$ ('Hyeda'), while from wheat, was $10.20^{\circ}Bx$ ('Baegjoong'). Among the four free sugar components analyzed from Sikhye, maltose was the highest in all cultivars. The highest maltose content was produced in 'Dahyang' Sikhye at 6.91%. There was significant positive-correlation among the diastatic power and enzymatic activities of malt and free sugar components in Sikhye.

  • A new method to utilize spent mushroom substrates (SMS) for ethanol production was investigated. Analysis of the chemical properties of SMS revealed that they were decomposed by the mushrooms during cultivation. In particular, the free sugar content in SMS was reduced to half of that in mushrooms. Of the tested SMS, the Pleurotus eryngii SMS was determined to be suitable for saccharification. Upon pretreatment with a 1% alkaline solution, Pleurotus eryngii SMS achieved 80.7% of its maximum saccharification ratio. The optimum pretreatment conditions for enzyme saccharification were 1% NaOH solution at $120^{\circ}$ for 60 min. Further studies are required to determine ethanol production using Pleurotus eryngii SMS.

  • The change in physicochemical characteristics of sorghum among different varieties and at different harvest stages after heading were evaluated. The proximate compositions and chromaticity of sorghum were significantly different, depending on their varieties and harvesting times. Water solubility was high in sorghum harvested on the $50^{th}$ day after heading; however, the swelling power was reversed. Total polyphenol content of Hwanggeumchal, Nampungchal, and Sodamchal was 17.60-24.62, 17.88-24.67, and 17.37-22.37 mg GAE/g, respectively, and the flavonoid content was 10.43-13.50, 9.68-13.85, and 9.52-12.46 mg CE/g, respectively. The DPPH radical-scavenging activities were 9.94-16.21, 11.42-16.54, and 10.12-15.16 mg TE/g, respectively, and the ABTS radical-scavenging activities were 8.85-19.99, 10.51-20.24, and 9.71-17.93 mg TE/g, respectively. Total polyphenol and flavonoid contents, and radical scavenging activities were high in sorghum harvested on the $40-50^{th}$ day after heading. As a result, it is considered that sorghum varieties such as Hwanggeumchal, Nampungchal, and Sodamchal should be harvested on the $40^{th}$ day after heading.

An Optimum Harvest Time for Chinese Milk Vetch (Astragalus sinicus L.) Seed Production (자운영 종자생산을 위한 적정 수확시기 구명)

  • To determine an optimum harvest time for chinese milk vetch (CMV) seed production, the seeds were harvested at 4 times, according to 25, 30, 35, and 40 day after flowering (DAF), in Miryang, southern part of Korea. CMV plants were manually harvested at each time and seed threshing was done by rice threshing machine. Seed yield, 1,000-seed weight, germinability, and hard coat ratio were investigated. Seed yield was the highest, 53.9 kg/300 kg by dry weight (DW) of CMV plant, at 35 DAF. 1,000-seed weight increased according to seed harvest time from 25 DAF to 40 DAF when it was 3.10 g. The germination ratios of seeds harvested at 4 times were not significantly different when the seeds stored until August 1. In case of long period of CMV seeds stored, the seeds harvested later showed higher germination rate. On the other hand, because the hard coat ratio causing germination inhibition was declined with an increase of storage period, it was higher in the seeds harvested later. There was no difference among the seeds harvested at 4 times at October 1. In conclusion, it was presumed that an optimum harvest time for CMV seed production should be at 35 DAF considering seed yield, weight and germinability.

  • 참외는 다른 과채류에 비하여 열량과 비타민이 많아 식품적인 가치가 높고 아삭아삭한 치감이 있어 봄철을 대표하는 과실로 자리 잡고 있다. 참외는 저장성이 짧고 작형이 따른 수확시기가 길지만 출하최성기에 출하물량을 조절하거나 해외 수출 등 판로개척을 위해서는 장기 저장 등 수확 후 신선도 관리가 필요하다.

Changes in Quality Characteristics of Peony Major Varieties on Harvest Stage (수확 단계에 따른 작약 주요 품종의 수확후 품질 특성 변화)

  • 본 연구는 수확 단계에 따른 작약 주요 품종의 수확후 품질 특성을 조사하여 품종별 적정 수확 시기를 구명하고자 수행하였다. 절화 작약은 '두체스', '레드참', '보울오브크림' 품종을 사용하였으며, 세 품종 모두 1, 2, 3, 4단계로 구분 지어 수확하여 실험에 사용하였다. 수확한 작약은 40cm로 재절단하여 chrysal professional III 용액이 담긴 화병에 꽃아 생체중, 증산량, 수분흡수량, 개화 단계 변화 등을 매일 조사하였고, 이를 통해 수분균형 및 절화 수명 등의 결과를 도출하였다. '두체스' 품종의 품질 특성 변화를 조사한 결과, 1단계에 수확한 절화의 만개소요일수는 5.5일, 만개유지일수는 2.9일, 총 절화수명은 8.4일로 다른 수확단계보다 1~3일 더 긴 것으로 조사되었으며, 생체중증가율 및 화경 변화 결과를 통해 1단계 수확 시에도 개화는 정상적으로 진행되는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. '레드참' 품종의 품질 특성 변화 조사 결과, 1단계에 수확한 절화의 만개소요일수는 7.9일, 만개유지일수는 3.3일, 총 절화수명은 11.2일로 다른 수확단계보다 1~4일 더 긴 것으로 조사되었다. '보울오브크림' 품종의 품질 특성 변화 조사 결과, 1단계 수확한 절화는 30% 수준만 만개하여 조기 수확에 따른 문제점이 확인되었지만, 2단계 수확한 절화는 개화와 만개 모두 100% 진행되었으며, 만개소요일수는 6.4일, 만개유지일수는 4.5일, 총 절화수명은 10.9일로 다른 수확단계보다 1~2일 긴 것으로 조사되었다. 본 연구 결과, '두체스' 와 '레드참' 품종의 적정 수확단계는 1단계, '보울오브크림' 품종의 적정 수확단계는 2단계가 적절할 것으로 판단된다.

  • In order to determine the optimun condition for the long term storage of potatoes by irradiation combined with natural low temperature, the dose range and irradiation time after harvesting of two varieties were investigated. Although optimum dose of potatoes and was different according to the variety 12.5krad seemed optimum untill 15-30 day after harvesting and 15krad was for later than 45 day after harvesting. The sooner the irradiation was efficient after harvesting. Optimum dose irradiated group were better in change of sprouting, rotting, weightloss and shrivelling and was extended the storage period more than four months compared with control at natural low temperature storage room.
