Organic Manure Compost and Inorganic Fertilizer Levels Affect Maize Growth in Barren Soils (척박지에서 퇴비와 무기질 비료가 옥수수 생장에 미치는 영향)

  • This study aimed to investigate the effect of manure compost content on early growth of maize in barren soils, to establish cultivation techniques that can increase maize yields on barren soils and to provide information on cultivation techniques. The results showed that in the manure compost treatments (1,500 and 1,000 kg/10a), yields increased with increasing amounts of manure compost compared to those of standard fertilization and decreased with decreasing amounts of manure compost. In addition, in fields with the no manure compost treatment (0 kg/10a), yields decreased overall compared to yields of fields treated with manure compost (1,500 and 1,000 kg/10a) regardless of the amount of fertilization. Maize growth was good irrespective of variety when compost was applied in high amounts to the barren soil, but poor initial growth was observed in all varieties in the untreated plots where no compost was applied to the barren soil. These results confirm that maize is affected by organic (manure compost) fertilizer in all aspects of its growth, and that a minimum of 1,000 kg/10a of manure compost and two-thirds (0.6) of chemical fertilizer should be applied to ensure stable maize yields, particularly when maize is grown on barren soils.

Stand Yield Table and Commercial Timber Volume of Eucalyptus Pellita and Acacia Mangium Plantations in Indonesia (인도네시아 유칼립투스 및 아카시아 조림지의 임분수확표 및 이용가능 목재생산량 추정)

  • This study was conducted to develop a stand growth model and a stand yield table for Eucalyptus pellita and Acacia mangium plantations in Kalimantan, Indonesia. To develop a stand growth model, Weibull robability density function, a diameter class model, was applied in this study. In the development of stand growth model by site index and stand age, a hierarchy is generally required - estimation, recovery and prediction of the diameter class model. A number of grow equations were also involved in each process to estimate diameter, height, basal area, minimum or maximum diameter. To examine whether the grow equations are adequate for Eucalyptus pellita or Acacia mangium plantations, a fitness index was analyzed for each equation. The results showed that fitness indices were ranged from 65 to 89% for Eucalyptus pellita plantations and from 72 to 95% for Acacia mangium plantations. As being highly adequate for the plantations, a stand yield table was developed based on the resulted growth model, and applied to estimate the stand growth with midium site index for 10-year period. The highest annual stand growth of Eucalyptus pellita plantations was estimated to be 21.25 $m^3$/ha, while that of Acacia mangium plantations was 27.5 $m^3$/ha. In terms of annual stand growth, Acacia mangium plantations appeared to be more beneficial than Eucalyptus pellita plantations. Also, to estimate commercial timber volume available from the plantations, an assumption that a log would be cut by 2.7 m in length and the rest of the log would be cut by 1.5m was involved. The commercial timber volume available from Eucalyptus pellita plantations was 68.0 $m^3$/ha, 33% from the total stand volume, 203.2 $m^3$/ha. Also 96.7 $m^3$/ha of commercial timbers were available from Acacia mangium plantations, which was 42% from the 232.9 $m^3$/ha in total. Presenting a good information about the stand growth in Eucalyptus pellita and Acacia mangium plantations, this study might be useful for whom proceeds or considers an abroad plantation for merchantable timber production or carbon credit in tropical regions.

Appropriate Each Irrigation Quantity in Irrigation System Controlled by Drainage Level Sensor for Perlite Bag Culture of Tomato (배액전극제어법을 이용한 토마토 펄라이트 자루재배시 일회급액량 구명)

  • This research was conducted to investigate the effects of irrigation quantity in irrigation management system controlled by drainage level sensors for perlite bag culture on the growth and yields of tomatoes during different growth stages. Tomato plants were irrigated with four selected methods; supplying small quantity (~70 mL) during entire growth (S-S), large quantity (~145 mL) during entire growth (L-L), small quantity before harvesting the first cluster fruits and large quantity after harvesting (S-L), and large quantity until harvesting the first cluster fruits and small quantity after harvesting (L-S). The irrigation quantity supplied in each time was gradually adjusted along with the ratios as the tomato crop grew during different growth stages. The growth of the tomato plants was unstable and slow during the entire cropping period when the plant was irrigated by small or large quantities (S-S or L-L). In L-S treatment, the growth phase of the tomato was changed from vegetative to generative growth on the basis of the plant development index when each irrigation quantity was changed. The L-S treatment exhibited the largest root volume and yields with stable drainage ratios. Therefore, the optimum irrigation quantity was determined as 145 mL before harvesting the first cluster fruits and 70 mL after harvesting.

Effects of natural calcium-coated package papers on the fruit quality and storage life of 'Hongro' apple. (수확 한 사과 '홍로'에서 천연칼슘이 코팅된 포장지 적용이 과실품질 및 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was designed to examine whether 'Hongro' apples packaged with natural calcium-coated package papers was fresher maintained than fruit held in not-packaged tray, and whether postharvest physiology of the fruits was affected by calcium-coated papers, or not. The summarized results were as follows; Soluble solids contents and firmness of fruit were higher room temperature(20~25℃) after 4 week and 14 week in cold storage(0~1℃) by calcium-coated package papers. but total acid contents in juice and Hunter a value of peel were trended to decrease in room temperature and cold storage. Weight loss of fruit, decay fruit and CO2 evolution were decreased by calcium and wax-coated package papers in room temperature storage condition. Also, excellent fruits increased. Ethylene evolution in fruit were not different by package paper and storage condition.

  • New born rat heart cells were dissociated using trypsin and/or collegenase to elucidate the dissociation efficiency of these two enzymes. And the effect of dimethyl sulfoxide during and immediately after cell dissociation was also investigated to clarify the so-called protective activity of dimethyl sulfoxide on cell performance. The results can be summarized as follows. 1. Cold trypsin 18 hours pretreatment followed by warm collagenase treatment resulted best cell viability and cell yield. 2. Single, warm trypsin treatment gave the poorest result. 3. Dimethyl sulfoxide did not seem to play any protective role during or immediately after rat heart cell dissociation. It had very damaging effect on rat heart cells.

Comparison of Characteristics of a Paddy Soil and Growth and Production of Rice as Affected by Organic Nutrient Sources (유기 자재에 따른 논토양의 특성 및 벼 생산성 비교)

  • The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of organic materials commonly used for rice culture on the soil chemical properties and yield and quality of rice. Treatments were applied on the surface layer after rice planting and included: A) Kumsugangsangold, commonly used as a nutrient source for organic rice culture in Chonnam province (compost I), B) Rice bran, containing large quantities of vegetable ingredient (compost II), C) Chamdalkom, manufacturing by-product fish (compost III), and D) Hangawi, mixing anmimal and vegetable ingredients (compost IV). Seasonal N-mineralization rate was faster on the compost I and III with lower C:N ratio than those of the compost II and IV. Soil chemiceal properties were not significantly affected by treatments. Seasonal organic matter was higher on the compost II and IV with high input of the organic materials than those of compost I and III, which would affect the level of biomass C. Higher rice yield treated by compost I was observed in year 1, but no significant difference was observed in years 2 and 3.

  • Garlic is an important crop, accounting for 1.1 trillion won out of 3.7 trillion won for the total production of seasoned vegetables in Korea. On the other hand, the cultivation area and production volume are decreasing continuously due to the shortage of an agricultural labor force, aging, and insufficient mechanization. In particular, the mechanization of garlic sowing is barely performed, resulting in large amounts of labor. Therefore, it is necessary to study the mechanization of planting garlic. Therefore, in this study, to determine the optimal working conditions for mechanical sowing of garlic, an experiment was conducted to compare the yield according to the sowing angle and depth of garlic during sowing. After sowing using a seeding machine set under optimal conditions, the conventional work and yield were compared. The results showed that it is most appropriate to sow garlic with a sowing angle of 45° or 90° and a depth of 2 cm to 4 cm, and there is no difference in the yield between sowing with a sowing machine and conventional work.

  • 최근 밀(Triticum aestivum L.) 소비량이 꾸준히 증가하고 있어 국내 밀 자급률 증대를 위한 노력이 필요하다. 그러나 우리나라는 작물을 재배할 수 있는 농경지가 한정되어 있어 벼 수확 후 휴경 논을 이용하여 겨울철에 밀을 재배하거나, 하계 소득 작물과 연계하여 겨울철에 밀을 생산할 수 있는 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 남부지역 평야지 논을 이용하여 밭작물 중심 다모작 작부체계를 제시함과 동시에 밀을 재배하여 생육 특성과 수확량 변화를 살펴보았다. 단위면적당 수수 및 종실 수량은 작부이력에 밭작물이 포함된 다년 다모작 작형(들깨-IRG-참깨-밀, 콩-IRG-참깨-밀)이 다년 벼-밀 이모작이나 벼-IRG-참깨-밀 다모작에 비해 많았으며, 특히 들깨와 콩이 포함된 작부체계에서 많았다. 밀 품종 간 비교에서는 금강밀이 조경밀에 비해 출수기와 성숙기가 2~3일 빨랐지만 종실 수량은 100 kg/10a 이상 적어, 동일한 환경조건에서 조경밀이 금강밀에 비해 곡물 생산성 측면에서 유리할 것으로 보인다. 더군다나 조경밀은 조숙 다수성 경질밀로 전국에 재배가 가능하고, 단백질 함량이 높고 강력분의 특성을 보여 제빵용으로 많이 활용되고 있다. 본 연구에서 조경밀은 단백질이 10% 이하로 낮고 아밀로스는 28.4%로 높은데 반해, 금강밀은 단백질이 11.0%로 높고 아밀로스는 26.6%로 낮아 제과·제빵에 있어서, 금강밀이 좀 더 유용할 것으로 보인다. 밀가루의 Falling number는 조경밀과 금강밀 모두 350초 이상으로 높아 수발아로 인해 전분의 분해가 일어나지 않은 건전한 상태의 곡립임을 알 수 있다. 그리고 gluten 함량도 조경밀과 금강밀 모두 유사하게 높았으며, gluten 지수는 금강밀이 좀 더 높았다. 이상의 결과를 토대로 밀 수확량을 증가시키기 위해서는 기존의 벼-밀 이모작 보다 들깨-IRG-참깨-밀이나 콩-IRG-참깨-밀 등의 다년 다모작 작형이 좀 더 유리할 것으로 보인다.

  • 본 논문에서는 밀 수확량을 증가시키기 위한 일반화된 검출 모델을 제안한다. 일반화 성능을 높이기 위해 CutMix 알고리즘으로 데이터를 증식시켰고, 라벨링 되지 않은 데이터를 최대한 활용하기 위해 Fast R-CNN 기반 Pseudo labeling을 사용하였다. 학습의 정확성과 효율성을 높이기 위해 사전에 훈련된 EfficientDet 모델로 학습하였으며, OOF를 이용하여 검증하였다. 최신 객체 검출 모델과 IoU(Intersection over Union)를 이용한 성능 평가 결과, 제안된 모델이 가장 높은 성능을 보이는 것을 확인하였다.

Evaluation of Physiological Changes in Watermelon Stalk during Storage under Various Conditions of Treatments after Harvesting (수확 후 저장환경에 따른 수박줄기의 생리변화)

  • In order to increase the storage stability of watermelon stalk, storage environments such as temperature and other treatments such as vaseline, mixture of soybean oil and wheat flour, and coated paper label were tested separately after harvesting. At different storage temperatures (7, 18 and $30^{\circ}C$) shelf-life of stalk was inversely proportional to temperature. The results showed that during storage at $30^{\circ}C$ they were completely wilted in 7 days, at $18^{\circ}C$ in 15 days and at $7^{\circ}C$ in 19 days. Our data also showed that stability of watermelon stalk depending on temperature was very closely correlated with water content of watermelon stalk; during storage at $30^{\circ}C$ the water content of watermelon stalk was decreased to 21.1 % in 7 days, whereas at $7^{\circ}C$ the water content was decreased gradually to 71.2 % for 19 days of storage. In order to reduce the physiological changes in watermelon stalk at $30^{\circ}C$, following treatments such as vaseline, mixture of soybean oil and wheat flour, and coated paper label were tested. As a result, watermelon stalk without any treatment was completely wilted in 9 days, while stalks treated with vaseline and mixture of soybean oil with wheat flour were wilted in 15 and 12 days, respectively. The wilt delay was noted in the watermelon stalk for $3{\sim}6$ days during both treatments but the outward quality was found detracted, whereas when treated with coated paper label, the wilt of stalk was delayed for 3 days along with the improvement in the outward quality. Therefore this data indicate that the treatment of coated paper label during storage at $30^{\circ}C$ can be considered as a potent method for maintaining the physiology of watermelon stalk.
