A solid-state NMR study on the activity of an antimicrobial peptide, magainin 2 (항균성 펩타이드인 magainin 2의 활성에 대한 고체 핵자기 공명 분광 연구)

  • The activity of an antimicrobial peptide, magainin 2, on lipid membranes was investigated using solid-state NMR and a new sampling method that employed mechanically aligned bilayers between thin glass plates. The experiments were performed at two hydration levels. At 95% hydration about 15% of the lipid bilayers were disrupted and at full hydration 20% were disrupted. From the comparison of two equilibrium states established by two sampling methods the importance of peptide binding to the lipid bilayer for whole membrane disruption was demonstrated.

  • The present study investigated hydration of alkali activated slag incorporating sulfate as a form of anhydrite by employing thermodynamic modeling using the Gibbs free energy minimization approach. Various parameters were evaluated in the thermodynamic calculations, such as presence of sulfide, precipitation/dissolution of AFt/AFm phase, and the effect of oxic condition on the predicted reaction. The calculations suggested no significant difference in the void volume and chemical shrinkage, which might influence the performance of the mixtures, in spite of various changes of the parameters. Although the types of hydration products and their amount varied according to the input conditions, their variations were smaller range than that induced by water-to-binder ratio. Moreover, it did not affect the amount of C-(N-)A-S-H which was the most important hydration product.

Hydration Heat and Shrinkage of Concrete Using Hwangtoh Binder (황토결합재를 이용한 콘크리트의 수화열과 수축특성)

  • In this paper, the applicability of Hwangtoh, as an alternative of cement paste, is investigated for the solution of internal heat and shrinkage caused by the hydration of cement paste. Several small-sized specimens of Hwangtoh and ordinary portland concrete (OPC) were compared as to compressive strength, heat of hydration, and shrinkage strain. Moreover, the applicability to the construction structures was reviewed through the test of large-size specimens. The 28-day compressive strength of Hwangtoh concrete (HBC), ranged 18 to 33 MPa, can reach that of OPC. Not only the maximun internal temperature of HBC was read about 1/4 of OPC as it is cured, but also its shrinkage decreased more than the OPC did. Therefore, Hwangtoh binder is more favorable than cement binder in terms of its hydration heat and shrinkage under the construction of concrete.

  • In order to select the proper formulation of newly developed herbicide Cyhalofop-butyl{n-butyl-(R)-2-[4-(2-fluro-4-cyanophenoxy)phenoxy]propionte} to Echino-chloacrus-galli(L)P. Beaw. several formulations were made and tested by biological assay. Weed control of wettable powder formulated with two adjuvants on E. crus-galli showed higher effect as compared with the formulation made without adjuvants. Higher concentration of adjuvants resulted in higher absorption and higher weed control on E. crus-galli. However, adhesional force of wettable powder applied to leaf surface was not positively correlated to the amount of herbicide absorption. The weeding effect and amount of herbicide absorbed on E. crus-galli were higher by emulsifiable concentrateformulations with different HLB and non ionic surfactants as compared with wettable powder formulations. The higher adhesional force and higher absorption of herbicide on E. crus-galli were obtained from microemulsion than the others. Granulization of the herbicide with appropriate adjuvants in a form of resurfacing on the submerged water gave rise to a good weeding effect and believed to be a possible promising formulation.

Freeze-Thaw Resistance of Alkali Activated Ternary Blended Cement Incorporated with Ferronickel Slag (알칼리 활성화제를 첨가한 페로니켈슬래그 혼입 삼성분계 콘크리트의 동결융해 저항성)

  • The present study assessed the micro structure and durability characteristics of ternary blended cement with different types of alkali activators. Ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBS) and ferronickel slag(FNS) was replaced until 50 % of the weight of cement. In addition, potassuim hydroxide and sodium hydroxide were used for comparing the properties of different type of alkali activator. Ternary blended cement with alkali activators showed higher peak portlandite peak than that of OPC(Ordinary Portlande Cement) and non activated ternary blended cement. Also, there was no new hydration products in ternary blended cement or/and alkali activators. Based on the mercury intrustion porosimetry(MIP) test result, ternary blended cement increased macro pore while alkali activated ternary blended cement modified pore structure and increased microp pore as compared to OPC as control. Combination with alkali activators is desirable to enhance the compressive strength and freeze thaw resistance.

알칼리-골재팽창을 최소화시키는 포틀랜드 제올라이트 시멘트

  • 이 논문에서는 통상의 포졸란 대신에 제올라이트 물질 즉, 화산 응회암을 적절히 분쇄한 후 혼합해서 만든 시멘트의 특성 변화에 대해 논하였다. 이러한 치환이 알칼리-골재 팽창 반응을 최소화시키고 장기강도를 향상시키는 장점이 있다는 사실도 밝혀냈다. 특히 제올라이트를 미리 열처리해서 첨가했을 때 이러한 팽창감소 효과가 현저하다는 것도 발견하였다. 강도증진 효과는 포졸란 유리상의 활성도에 비해 제올라이트 광물의 활성도가 높기 때문으로 해석되며 팽창의 감소는 비정질 수화 규산염이 먼저 알칼리와 반응을 하는 성질이 있기 때문으로 판단된다.

  • Hydration characteristics of cement containing zeolite mined at Daepo in Gyeongbuk province were studied for use as a mineral admixture. The cement paste containing zeolite was characterized by the measurement of heat evolution, XRD, EDS, nitrogen adsorption and mercury intrusion porosimetry. The cement paste containing zeolite exhibited tendencies toward acceleration of paste setting and promotion of cement hydration with the increase of zeolite content. The flow of mortar containing zeolite strongly reduced with increase of zeolite content. Compressive strength of the mortar containing zeolite increased very rapidly at an early age in comparison with plain mortar. These results would be related to aluminum species escaped from zeolite particles during the alkali dealumination of zeolite by the hydration process of cement.
