  • This work involves quantitatively investigating the correlation between reductions in strength and variations in pore structure under high temperature that can be utilized as estimation for predicting the inner temperature of member damaged by fire. The experimental results were remarkedly affected by micro-filling effect of silica fume and the different water-binder ratios. The increase of the exposure temperature caused the increase of porosity, which resulted from the reason that evaporable water in gel pore or capillary pores as well as chemically bound water was eliminated from hardened cement paste due to the dehydration of C-S-H and $Ca(OH)_2$. Thermal shrinkage of hardened cement paste gives rise to micro-crack, which cause the increase of porosity. Based on the experimental result that the increase of porosity is in charge of exposure temperature, how porosity is distributed can predict temperature-time history and assess the performance of concrete damaged by fire.

  • Some recent researches reported that high temperature rising decreases the carbonation depth of concrete, which is contrary to the previous research results. Carbonation has been known as a reaction between calcium hydroxide and carbon dioxide. But a few researches showed that the other cement hydrates as well as calcium hydroxide react with carbon dioxide. This paper investigates the influence of temperature on carbonation and the variation of $Ca(OH)_2$ and $CaCO_3$ by carbonation. In order to estimate the carbonation depth and the quantities of reactant and product of carbonation reaction, phenolphthalein testing and thermagravimetric analyzer test were conducted. The measurement of carbonation depth with temperature showed that the temperature increase from $20^{\circ}C$ to $30^{\circ}C$C in carbonation environment makes the carbonation depth larger, but the increase from $30^{\circ}C$ to $40^{\circ}C$ has a small influence on the carbonation depth. Comparing calcium hydroxide and calcium carbonate with temperature, the quantity of $CaCO_3$ of specimen carbonated at $30^{\circ}C$ is greater than that of specimen carbonated at $40^{\circ}C$ and the quantity of $Ca(OH)_2$ of specimen carbonated at $30^{\circ}C$ is similar to that of specimen carbonated at $40^{\circ}C$. This observation shows that there is the optimum temperature increasing carbonation depth and the optimum temperature is close to $30^{\circ}C$.

  • The heat generation of hydration of cement causes the internal temperature rise and volum& change at early age, particularly in massive concrete structures. As the results of the temperature rise and external restraint conditions, the thermal stress may induce cracks in concrete. Therefore, various techniques of the thermal stress control of the mass concrete have been wid'dy used. One of them is pipecooling which reduces the temperature of concrete with flowing water. The objective of this paper' is to develop a finite element program which is capable of simulating the temperature history considering pipe-cooling effect. The numerical results in this study are in good agreement with experimental data measured in the footing(l1 x22m). Therefore, this study may provide available method to predict the hydration temperature of concrete with pip:-cooling.

  • The durability of concrete and the water-tightness properties of cementitous material are closely relation. So, water-tightness materials as natural minerals, organic fatty acid, organic fatty salts inorganic materials use for improvement of concrete durability. But these materials are somehow different in water-tightness mechanism. In this study, we studied on hydration properties and water-tightness properties of cementitous materials with zinc-stearate, a kind of organic fatty acid salts.

  • In this study, the effect of a sudden decrease in internal humidity and a decrease in hydration level due to the tight internal structure of high-strength concrete and cement composites was investigated. To verify the change in the internal Si hydration, waste glass foam beads were used as a lightweight aggregate, and the internal unreacted hydrate reduction and hydrate formation tendency were identified over the mid- to long-term. Waste glass foam beads were mixed with 5, 10, and 20 %, and were used by pre-wetting. As the mixing rate of the waste glass foamed beads increased, the strength showed a tendency to decrease. In addition, when the mixing amount of pre-wetted waste glass foam beads increases inside through XRD analysis, TGA analysis, and Si NMR analysis, it is judged that the hydration degree of internal Si is different because moisture is supplied to the paste.

  • The present study assessed the micro structure and durability characteristics of ternary blended cement with different types of alkali activators. Ground granulated blast furnace slag(GGBS) and ferronickel slag(FNS) was replaced until 50 % of the weight of cement. In addition, potassuim hydroxide and sodium hydroxide were used for comparing the properties of different type of alkali activator. Ternary blended cement with alkali activators showed higher peak portlandite peak than that of OPC(Ordinary Portlande Cement) and non activated ternary blended cement. Also, there was no new hydration products in ternary blended cement or/and alkali activators. Based on the mercury intrustion porosimetry(MIP) test result, ternary blended cement increased macro pore while alkali activated ternary blended cement modified pore structure and increased microp pore as compared to OPC as control. Combination with alkali activators is desirable to enhance the compressive strength and freeze thaw resistance.

  • The temperature crack of concrete structure is caused by the phenomenon which the concrete volume is restricted in the inside or outside part due th the temperature variations induced by the hydration heat of cement. And mass concrete structures are weak in temperature crack. This study performed the hydration heat analysis of Seongdeok dam to analyze the hydration heat according to different interval of placement.

  • Fluosilicate salts based hydration heat reducer(SWP-HR), used in this study, is composed of fluosilicate salts, soluble silica, aromatic polymer condensate and nitrate salt based inorganic compound with latent heat property. Effects of SWP-HR addition on the hydration heat and anti-crack property of cement mortar were investigated. Adiabatic hydration temperature and drying shrinkage length of SWP-HR added cement mortar had a tendency to decrease compared to those of cement mortar without SWP-HR addition. Also, it was confirmed through crack pattern experiment of plate-form specimen for elucidating crack-reducing characteristic that anti-crack property of SWP-HR added cement mortar was improved.
