Despite the development of computational resources, the need to analyze models is increasing. The size of model has been increased to analyze the entire structure more accurately and precisely. As the analysis model becomes larger and more complex, the computation time increases exponentially. Various industries use many structures that have repeated patterns. We focus on these structures with repeated patterns and propose a dynamic analysis method to efficiently calculate these repeated structures. To devise an efficient method for repeated structures, the substructuring scheme and the degree of freedom-based reduction method are used in this study. We modify the existing reduction method in consideration of the characteristics of the repeating structure. In the proposed method, the entire structure was expressed as a combination of substructures, where each substructure was represented as an unit cell of repeated structures. The substructures were condensed and assembled using the substructuring scheme and the modified condensation method. Finally, numerical examples were demonstrated to verify the efficiency and accuracy of proposed method.

The effect of end restraints for adjoining members is the different variables influencing the column ultimate strength and the behavior. The propose of this study is to analyze eccentrically loaded reinforced concrete columns with the end restraind effect having rectangular cross-section and general boundary conditions. Accordingly, this investigation are to construct a typical analytical model of the reinforced concrete columns with general end boundary conditions. The mechanical components of the analytical model are to be rationally defined the actual behavior as possible, and the different variables influencing the behavior and the ultimate strength of the reinforced concrete columns are investigated by using a parametric study.

Methods of nonlinear structural design sensitivity analysis are developed in parallel with the nonlinear finite element structural analysis methods and numerically evaluated. Direct decomposition and iterative solution methods for the secant stiffness approach and direct use of tangent stiffness in the design sensitivity analysis phase are derived and presented as the methods of nonlinear structural analysis and design sensitivity analysis are closely related. From the considerations of theoretical and numerical behavior, the tangent stiffness approach is shown to be efficient as the intermediate results of structural analysis can be effectively used in the design sensitivity analysis stage.

A new earthquake design method performing iterative calculations using secant stiffness was developed. The proposed design method has the advantages of convenience and stability in numerical analysis because it uses elastic analysis. At the same time, the proposed design method can accurately estimate the strength and ductility demands on the members because it performs the analysis on the inelastic behavior of structure using iterative calculation. In the present study, the procedure of the proposed design method was established, and a computer program incorporating the proposed method was developed. Design examples using the proposed method were presented, and its advantages were presented by the comparisons with existing design methods using elastic or inelastic analysis. The proposed design method, as an integrated method of analysis and design, can address the earthquake design strategy devised by the engineer. such as ductility limit on each member, the design concept of strong column - weak beam, and etc. In addition, through iterative calculations on the structure preliminarily designed only with member sizing, the strength and ductility demands of each member can be directly calculated so as to satisfy the given design strategy. As the result. economical and safe design can be achieved.

Numerical model became one of most important tools for identifying the state of an existing structure in accordance with development of numerical analysis techniques. A numerical model should be updated based on the measured responses from the existing structure to accurately use the model for identifying the state of the bridge and executing numerical experiments. In this study, a new model updating method based on repetition method without a differential function is introduced and applicability for high speed railway bridge is verified with dynamic stability analysis. A fine measurement based on measurement points roaming method was executed with an wireless measurement system for precise dynamic characteristic analysis. The natural frequencies and mode shapes were estimated by correlation analysis and a mode decomposition technique. An initial numerical model was constructed based on design drawings and the model have been updated in accordance with the introduced model updating method. The results from numerical experiment and field test have been compared for verifying the applicability of the model updating method. And the dynamic stability analysis has been executed to verify the usability of the updated numerical model and the model updating method. It seems that the model updating method can be used for various bridges after evaluation of applicability for other type bridges in further studies.

A numerical method for simulations of inviscid incompressible flow fields around a ship advancing on the free surface is developed. A body fitted coordinate system, generated by numerically solving elliptic type partial differential equations is used to conform the ship and free surface configurations. Three dimensional Euler equations transformed to the non-staggered body fitted coordinate system are discretised by finite difference method. Time and spatial derivatives are discretised by forward and centered differencings, respectively, and artificial dissipations are added to discretised convection terms for improvements of numerical stability. At each time steps, free surface elevations are recomputed to satisfy nonlinear free surface conditions. Poisson equations for pressure field are solved iteratively and the velocity field for next time step is extrapolated. To verify the developed numerical method, flow fields around a Wigley model are simulated(Fn=0.250-0.408) and compared with experimental data to show good agreements.

This paper describes a potential-based panel method for the prediction of steday performance of a marine propeller operating in a uniform oncoming flow. An integral equation with unknown dipole strengths is formulated by distributing the normal dipoles and/or sources on the blade and hub surfaces and the wake sheet, and is solved numerically upon discretization. A hyperboloidal panel has been adopted to compute the potential induced by a normal dipole on a non-planar quadrilateral panel. The Kutta condition is satisfied by iteratively annulling the pressure jumps at the trailing edge. Extensive convergence tests are carried out, and the influence of the wake model upon performance is studied. Predicted performance is shown to correlate well with the experiments.
Despite its flexibility to complex geometry, three-dimensional (3D) electromagnetic(EM) modeling schemes using finite element method (FEM) have been faced to practical limitation due to the resulting large system of equations to be solved. An efficient 3D FEM modeling scheme has been developed, which can adopt either direct or iterative solver depending on the problems. The direct solver PARDISO can reduce the computing time remarkably by incorporating parallel computing on multi-core processor systems, which is appropriate for single frequency multi-source configurations. When limited memory, the iterative solver BiCGSTAB(1) can provide fast and stable convergence. Efficient 3D simulations can be performed by choosing an optimum solver depending on the computing environment and the problems to be solved. This modeling includes various types of controlled-sources and can be exploited as an efficient engine for 3D inversion.
The discrete element code in 2-D, PFC2D, has been used as a tool to simulate various phenomena in rock mechanics and rock engineering. However, the code has an disadvantage that procedure to determine micro-parameters, namely properties of particles and contacts is repetitive and time-consuming. In this study, we analyzed the effect of micro-parameters(for generation of a contact-bonded model) on macro-properties(that were measured numerically by uniaxial compressive test). Based on the analysis, also, the time-saving and reliable method was suggested to determine a complete set of micro-parameters. In order to verify the suggested method, numerical specimens were generated in PFC2D for 10 different rock types at home and abroad. By the two trials for each specimen, in the result, the Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and uniaxial compressive strength could be reproduced with being in relative error by about 5% to the values obtained by laboratory tests.

The capability for reconstructing impact forces of an aircraft wing using impact response functions and regularization methods were examined. The impact response function which expresses the relation between the structure response and the impact force was derived using the information on mass and stiffness data of a finite element model for the wing. Iterative Tikhonov regularization method and generalized singular value decomposition method were used to inverse the impact response function that was generally ill-posed. For the numerical verification, a fighter aircraft wing was used. Strain and deflection histories obtained from finite element analysis were compared with the results calculated using impact response functions. And the impact forces were reconstructed with the strain histories obtained from finite element analysis. The numerical verification results showed that this method can be used to monitor impact forces on aircraft structures.
