In this study the overstrength factors of medium to low-rise bucking restrained braced frames (BRBF) were evaluated. Various design variables, such as number of stories, span length, yield strength of the brace, level of earthquake load, and the response modification factors. The overstrength factors were obtained using the nonlinear static analysis following the procedure proposed by ATC-19. According to the analysis results, the overstrength factors obtained from this study were generally larger than those proposed in 'AISC/SEAOC Recommended Provisions for BRBF'.
The dynamic moduli of asphalt concrete are very important for the analysis and the design of asphalt pavement systems. The dynamic modulus master curve is usually represented by a sigmoidal function. The Ramberg-Osgood model was widely used for fitting of normalized modulus reduction curves with strain of soils in soil dynamic fields. The master curves were obtained by both sigmoidal functions and modified Ramberg-Osgood model for the same dynamic modulus data set, the fitting abilities of both methods were excellent. The coefficients in sigmoidal function are coupled. Therefore, it is not possible to separate the characteristics of the master curve with absolute value and shape. However, the each fitting coefficient in the Ramberg-Osgood model has a unique effect on the master curve, and the coefficients are not coupled with each other.
In this study, the effects of the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint and the vertical distribution of lateral load are evaluated considering higher modes on the response of RC OMRF using the pushover analysis. A structure used for the analysis was a 5-story structure located at site class SB and seismic design category C, which was designed in accordance with KBC2009. Bending moment-curvature relationship for beam and column was identified using fiber model. Also, bending moment-rotation relationship for beam-column joint was calculated using simple and unified joint shear behavior model and moment equilibrium relationship for the joint. The results of pushover analysis showed that, although the rigid beam-column joint overestimated the stiffness and strength of the structure, the inelastic shear behavior of beam-column joint could be neglected in the process of structural design since the average response modification factor satisfied the criteria of KBC2009 for RC OMRF independent to inelastic behavior of joint.
The rollers and/or races in cylindrical and tapered roller bearings should be profiled to relieve high edge stress concentrations caused by their finite lengths and misalignment. In this study, a numerical analysis was performed to investigate the elastohydrodynamic lubrication (EHL) of a Lundberg profile-type cylindrical roller. A finite difference method with fully nonuniform grids and the Newton-Raphson method were used to present detailed EHL pressure distributions and film shapes, as well as the variations in the minimum and central film thicknesses with the profile modification coefficient. In the Lundberg profile, the maximum pressure and minimum film thickness always occurred near the edges. Proper modification of the Lundberg profile considerably increased the minimum film thickness.
In this study, a five-story steel frame was designed in accordance with KBC2005 to evaluate the effect of the beam-column connection on the structural behavior. The connections were designed as a fully rigid connection and as a semirigid connection. A fiber model was utilized to describe the moment-curvature relationship of the steel beam and column, and a three-parameter power model was adopted for the moment-rotation angle of the semirigid connection. To evaluate the effects of higher modes on structural behavior, the structure was subjected to a KBC2005-equivalent lateral load and lateral loads considering higher modes. The structure was idealized as a separate 2D frame and as a connected 2D frame. The pushover analysis of 2D frames for the lateral load yielded the top displacement-base shear force, design coefficients such as overstrength factor, ductility ratio, and response modification coefficient, demanded ductility ratio for the semirigid connection, and distribution of plastic hinges. The sample structure showed a greater response modification coefficient than KBC2005, the higher modes were found to have few effects on the coefficient, and the lateral load of KBC2005 was found to be conservative. The TSD connection was estimated to secure economy and safety in the sample structure.

Low-velocity impact on composite sandwich panel has been investigated. Contact force is computed from a proposed modified Hertzian contact law. The Hertzian contact law is constructed by adjusting numerical value of the exponent and reducing the through-the- thickness elastic constant of honeycomb core. The equivalent transverse elastic constant is calculated from the rule of mixture. Nonlinear equation to calculate the contact force is solved by the Newton-Raphson method and time integration is done by the Newmark-beta method. A finite element program for the low-velocity impact analysis is coded by implementing these techniques and an 18-node assumed strain solid element. Behaviors of composite sandwich panels subjected to low-velocity impact are analyzed for various cases with different geometry and lay-ups. It has been found that the present code with the proposed contact law can predict measured contact forces and contact times for most cases within reasonable error bounds.

In the vibration analysis or submerged of floating bodies such as ship and offshore structures, the coupled system between structure and fluid satisfying the compatibility conditions on the wetted surface should be considered. It is well known that the hydroelastic analysis of structural vibration in contact with fluid can be solved by applying the finite element method to structure and the boundary element method to fluid domain. However such an approach is impractical, because fluid added mass matrix is fully coupled on whole wetted surface. To overcome this shortcoming, an efficient approach based on reanalysis scheme is proposed in this paper. The proposed method can be applied for cases with higher modes lacking 3-D reduction factor J as well as beam-like modes of marine structures. It is well known the traditional method using 2-D added mass and J-factor is good only for beam-like modes with reliable J values. The validity and the calculation efficiency of the proposed method are proved with numerical examples.

The construction of super tall building which structure is RC and must be certainly considered on column shortening estimation and construction reflected concrete creep has been increased. Regarding the Fck 60~80MPa grade high strength concrete applied in the domestic super tall building project, the mechanical properties and creep deflection according to curing conditions(Drying creep/Basic creep) were reviewed in this research. Results of compressive strength and elastic modulus under sealed curing condition were 5% higher than unsealed condition and difference of results according to the curing condition was increased over time. Autogenous and drying shrinkage tendency showed adversely in the case of high strength concrete. Additionally, creep modulus under unseal curing condition was evaluated 2~3 times higher than sealed condition. Modified model of ACI-209 based on test result was applied to estimate long period shortening of vertical members(such as Core Wall/Mega Column) exactly, it is designed to modify and suggest the optimal creep model based on various data accumulated during construction, in the future.

The effects of earthquakes can be devastating especially to existing structures that are not based on earthquake resistant design. This study proposes a steel grid shear wall that can provide a sufficient lateral resistance and can be used as a seismic retrofit method. The pushover analysis was performed on RC structure with and without the proposed steel grid shear wall. Obtain the performance point that the target structure for seismic loads applied to evaluate the response and performance levels. The capacity spectrum at performance point is nearly elastic range, so satisfied the performance objectives(LS level). And response modification factor(R factor) were calculated from the pushover analysis. The R factor approach is currently implemented to reflect inelastic ductile behavior of the structures and to reduce elastic spectral demands from earthquakes to the design level. The R factor increases from 2.17 to 3.25 was higher than the design criteria. As a result, according to reinforcement by steel grid shear wall, strength, stiffness, and ductility of the low-rise RC structure has been appropriately improved.

Corrugated steel plates have several advantages such as high resistance for shear without stiffeners, minimization of welding process, and high fatigue resistance. To take advantage of these benefits, several researchers have attempted to use corrugated steel plate as a web of I-girders. The lateral-torsional buckling is the major design aspect of such I-girders. However, lateral-torsional buckling of the I-girder with corrugated steel webs still needs to be investigated especially for a real loading condition such as non-uniform bending. This paper investigated the lateral-torsional buckling strength of the I-girder with corrugated steel webs under linear moment gradient by using finite element analysis. From the results, it was found that the buckling behavior of the I-girder with corrugated steel webs differed depending on the number of periods of the corrugation. Also, a simple equation for the moment gradient correction factor of the I-girder with corrugated steel webs was suggested. The inelastic lateral-torsional buckling strength of the I-girder with corrugated steel webs was then discussed based on current design equations for ordinary I-girders and the results of finite element analysis.
