  • Tropical fire ant, Solenopsis geminata (Fabricius) is distributed over the tropical and temperate areas. It is a polyphagous pest attacking to various plant and causes the pain to the people doing outdoor work. So it is known for a hygienic pest to human being, especially the people doing outdoor activities. It can cause severe pain to human, even with just a bite. Of particular concern is the possibility of its settlement in this country, if it invade to the farmlands and/or forests of Jeju Island and southern part in Korea. It is listed as a regulated pest in Plant Quarantine Act of Korea. This ant is usually imported through a ship and early settled in the port area where it is already distributed. Recently its distribution is rapidly spreading into Southeast Asia and southern part of China. In Korea, it was detected the one time in 1990s, but was detected the ten times from 2000 to 2006 by an imported plant quarantine process. Therefore, we would like to provide some information on the species, including morphology, distribution, host plant, damaged symptom and its general bionomics, which will be useful data for plant quarantine process and control.

Organizational Culture, Organizational Structure and Emotional Labor of Dental Workers Impact of Convergence on Job Satisfaction (치과종사자들의 조직문화, 조직구조 및 감정노동의 융합적 관계가 직무만족에 미치는 영향)

  • This study surveyed the convergence of organizational culture, organizational structure, emotional labor on job satisfaction of dental workers and analyzed it with SPSS WIN18.0 program to obtain statistically significant results(p<.05). Organizational culture was high men, dental hygienist, university graduates, hospitals, many workers, High income. Organization structure was high hospitals, many workers. Emotional labor was high low age and career, single, drinking. Job satisfaction was high more than 10 workers, high income. There was a positive correlation between job satisfaction, organizational culture, organizational structure. The regression analysis showed that Y (job satisfaction) = .907 + .106 (organizational structure). Therefore, in order to enhance job satisfaction of dental workers, it is necessary to make an effort to form a positive organizational culture by considering variables related to organizational structure.

Safety Assessment of Oriental Medicines and Their Preparations (한약 및 한약제제의 안전성 평가)

  • This study was carried out to evaluate the safety of circulated oriental medicines and their related preparations in Gyeonggi-do. Total 366 samples (165 species) were analyzed about heavy metals, residual contents of sulfur dioxide ($SO_2$), and 68 samples were analyzed about preservatives. 17 samples (13 species, 4.6%) were exceeded the legal limit of heavy metal. The concentrations over the legal limit for Pb, Cd, As and Hg were 6.1~19.2 mg/kg, 0.4~0.7 mg/kg, 6.9 mg/kg and 0.7 mg/kg, respectively. In particular, the exceeding ratio (5.9%) of the legal limit of heavy metals in foreign products was 3.3 times more than domestic products (1.8%). 13 samples (10 species, 3.6%) exceeded the limit of residual sulfur dioxide and the concentration ranges were 105 to 428 mg/kg in domestic products, on the other hand foreign products were from 114 to 2,468 mg/kg. The mean concentration over the limit of residual sulfur dioxide of foreign products (804 mg/kg) was 2.4 times more than domestic products (338 mg/kg). In studying of the preservatives in oriental preparation, the contents of dehydroacetic acid (48.9~64.1%) in 3 samples of labeled solutions were under the labeled preservative contents and the contents of benzoic acid (139.9%) in 1 sample of labeled pill product was exceeded the labeled preservative contents. The numbers of the detected preservatives in unlabeled solutions, pills and granules were 4, 11 and 7, respectively.

A Survey on Housewives' Consumption Pattern and Nutrition Knowledge about Vegetables (주부의 채소 소비형태 및 영양지식에 대한 연구)

  • This study was to investigate the consumption pattern and nutrition knowledge about vegetables of 184 housewives attending the school of adult and continuing education attached to DukSung Women's University. The results were summarized as follows; the average vegetable expenses were $10,000{\sim}20,000$ won per week. The frequency of purchasing vegetables was $2{\sim}3$ times a week. Respondents usually bought the vegetables at local markets and supermarkets. As for buying vegetables, all of respondents kept in mind all the time the organic vegetables were better. The price was the most important factor of their purchase in the low income households. In the family, the vegetable dishes were favored by housewives most and by sons least. Among the vegetable cooking methods, Kimchi was the most frequently used and salad was the least. Forty four percent of the respondents experienced purchasing ready made vegetable dishes in the market. The reason they bought ready made ones was the special taste of the dishes. The rest of respondents never bought cooked vegetable dishes because they thought the dishes unsanitary. Twenty seven percent of the respondents experienced purchasing. The reason for not purchasing Kimchi was the housewives' traditional prejudice of buying Kimchi in the market. Respondents have a considerable knowledge that 42 kinds of vegetables could be good for certain disease and 10 kinds of vegetables might be harmful for certain disease.

Promotive Effects of Several Synthetic Hormones Using Short-Term Carcinogen Screening Method (단기 발암성 검색법을 이용한 축산식품에 잔류할 수 있는 합성홀몬의 발암촉진효과에 대한 연구)

  • This study was performed for assessing carcinogenicity of several synthetic hormones; Diethylstilbesterol (DES), 17-ethinylestradiol ($EE_2$) and Bovine somatotrophin (BST). Six weeks old F344 rats were divided into five groups and given an intraperitoneally injection of 200 mg of diethylnitrosamine (DENA). At two week after beginnig of experiment, DES, $EE_2$, BST. Phenobarbital were administered to group 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively, group 4 is positive control and group 5 is negative control. At the same time, all groups received a single i.p. injection of D-galactosamine at a dose of 300 mg/kg and underwent 2/3 partial hepatectomy at week 5. All rats were sacrificed at the end of week 8 for assessment of liver lesion development. The liver was processed for immunohistochmical staining for GST-P and quantitatively analyzed by image analyzer. It was concluded that two synthetic estrogen hormones (DES, $EE_2$) was different significantly (p < 0.01) but BST was not different as compared with control group. Therefore, we thought that DES, $EE_2$ was promoting effects and BST was not in rat hepatocarcinogenesis.

Paralytic Shellfish Poisoning Toxicity of Shellfishes, Sold at Fish Markets in Seoul (서울시내 수산시장에서 유통되고 있는 패류의 마비성 패독 함량)

  • In order to investigate the distribution of paralytic shellfish poison, we examined the toxicity during from February to October in 2000. Of 591 shellfish samples, 17(2.88%) samples were detected. Scapgarca broughtonii was highest collected 14.29%(2/14). In the monthly detection rate of PSP, April was hitest 13.3%(8/60), in the regional collecting rate, Cheon-nam coastal area was highest 3.82%(10/262), and in cases of imported area, China was 8.3%(1/12). Imported area as well as domestic area samples should be strengthen to examine enduringly.

Prevalence and Serovar of Food Poisoning Bacteria in Retail Fresh, Frozen and Packed Meats (시판냉장, 냉동 및 포장육 중 식중독균의 분포 및 혈청형)

  • The prevalence and serotype of food-borne pathogens was investigated from 888 samples of chilled meat, 222 samples of packed frozen meat and 117 samples of imported frozen meat during the period from March 1996 to October 1998. Isolation rates of pathogens associated with food poisoning were revealed in order of Staphyloccus aureus, Campylobacter jejuni /coli, Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella spp, but Escherichia coli O157:H7 was not isolated in all of the meat samples. Amusingly, Campylobacter jejuni /coli were isolated highly in refrigerated meat, but was not isolated in packed frozen meat. L. monocytogenes was encounted higher isolation frequency in packed frozen chicken meat than in refrigerated chicken meat. In the distribution of serotypes of isolates, most isolates of Sta. aureus classified as enterotoxin type C and D. All of the Salmonella spp. isolated from pork were diagnosed group A and most of isolates from chicken meat were grouped B and D. Most of L. monocytogenes isolated from chicken meat were grouped type 1 and a few number of isolates classified as type 4.

Willingness to Pay for Professional Tooth Cleaning in Implant Patients (전문가치면세정술 비용 지불의사가격)

  • This study aimed to arrive at reasonable and realistic prices for professional tooth cleaning (PTC) in order to expand its clinical utilization. The study involved 214 dental implant patients who received PTC. Cross-tabulation, one-way ANOVA, t-test, and stepwise multiple regression were performed for analysis. The mean satisfaction score was 4.60 points, and 92.5% of all subjects were willing to receive PTC consistently. The most common reason to receive PTC was a feeling of refreshment in 84.7%, and 84.1% were willing to pay for PTC. The mean willingness-to-pay price was 28,100 won, and the mode was 10,000 won. Willingness-to-pay price increased as average monthly income and satisfaction level for PTC were higher. The price also increased with age and was higher in women than men. Suggesting and settling reasonable and realistic prices for PTC are expected to be useful in maintaining the long-term health of the dental implant and reducing socio-economic costs.

Study on the Hazard Compounds from Wooden Kitchenwares and Sanitary Produce (목제 주방용품 및 위생용품에 잔류하는 유해물질에 관한 연구)

  • The analysis of hazard compounds, including naphthalene, biphenyls (BP) and diethyl phthalate (DEP), was conducted from the wooden kitchenwares and sanitory produce. Fifty samples of that wooden products in the local market were purchased for the study. All the samples were extracted by benzene and n-heptane, followed by the analysis through GC-MSD. As a result, neither naphthalene nor diethyl phthalate were found, however, trace amount of biphenyls were detected on all the samples ranged from 0.1 to 3.1 ppm. Biphenyls also contained both in the imported and the domestic of White Birch wood, as 0.25 ppm and 0.34 ppm, respectively. The concentration of biphenyls reduced with the process of the original woods, and especially the detection range was relatively low compared with the permission one of apples (110 ppm). The results suggested that biphenyls were contaminated into the product not by the addition doting the process of manufacture, but as the component itself in raw wood materials. Also, the content of the residual biphenyls were not suspected to give the harmful effects.

  • 보다 위생적인 한우육 생산을 위해서는 단계별의 위해요소중점관리(HACCP)의 적용은 물론, 생산 및 유통단계에서 가축 및 축산물의 이동경로를 추적, 관리함으로써 생산, 가공 및 유통 정보가 투명하고 정확하게 소비자에게 제공되도록 각 단계의 정보들이 통합되어져야 한다. 또한 필수적으로 개체이력 관리체계 구축 및 추적을 위한 도축장 전산화, 판매장 전산화가 이루어져야 한다. 따라서, 생산${\cdot}$도축${\cdot}$가공${\cdot}$판매 단계의 정보를 통일화 할 수 있는 ID 체계 및 ID 식별 체계를 구축하고 각 단계에서 발생하는 정보를 공유하여 효율적이며 위생적인 생산이 될 수 있는 전산시스템을 구축하고 개체추적이 가능한 생산단계, 도축단계, 가공${\cdot}$판매단계 자동화 시스템이 개발 되어야 한다. 소비자 선호도 및 도축${\cdot}$가공 정보를 생산자, 관련기관 및 단체에 효과적으로 전달하여 차별화된 브랜드 개발을 유도하고 생축 및 한우육 유통단계를 투명화 하여 소비자 및 생산자의 이익을 극대화 시켜야 한다. 고품질 축산물을 소비자에게 안전하게 제공할 수 있도록 생산이력관리시스템을 구축하는 것은 궁극적으로 수입육과의 차별화 및 고품질 한우육 공급으로 국내산 한우육의 신뢰성을 회복하여 지속적이며 안정적인 한우 경영을 유지${\cdot}$발전의 기반을 마련하는 계기를 제공하는데 있다.
