  • We introduce innovations state space exponential smoothing models (ISS-ESM) that can analyze time series with multiple seasonal patterns. Especially, in order to control complex structure existing in the multiple patterns, the model equations use a matrix consisting of seasonal updating parameters. It enables us to group the seasonal parameters according to their similarity. Because of the grouped parameters, we can accomplish the principle of parsimony. Further, the ISS-ESM can potentially accommodate any number of multiple seasonal patterns. The models are applied to predict electricity demand in Korea that is observed on hourly basis, and we compare their performance with that of the traditional exponential smoothing methods. It is observed that the ISS-ESM are superior to the traditional methods in terms of the prediction and the interpretability of seasonal patterns.

  • Software courses required for all students regardless of their major in many universities. SW educational effectiveness model needs to be developed to enable effective communication among students, professors, and SW educators, and to identify the responsibilities of SW educators. SW educational effectiveness model based on literature review is composed of computational thinking, SW literacy, SW awareness, and SW attitude. Computational thinking, focused on analysis and design of problem solving processes, consists of decomposition, pattern recognition, abstraction, and algorithms. SW literacy involves viewing social development based on SW beyond information literacy in the digital age. The SW awareness and attitude were organized by considering the collegiate contexts. The SW educational effectiveness model will be used as the basis for diagnosis tools as further studies.

  • Line capacity of railways is a core criterion to decide maximum trips in accordance with traffic demand and a priority in railway investment to improve transportation capability. Particularly, because two operators will start revenue services in the HSR from mid-2016, the line capacity should be carefully calculated and controlled to avoid conflicts between the maximum number of KTXs, and the number needed to guarantee the effective competition of the operators. Meanwhile, there have been many arguments about calculating the line capacity, because this number is affected by the number of trips by train types, stopping pattern and dwell time in each station, journey time, crossing or passing, safety headway between trains, etc. To deal successfully with these kinds of problems, this study proposes a simulation method to calculate the line capacity that considers train operation according to the operator's service policies.

  • Climate change results in unusual weather pattern and affects annual rain fall severely. At the same time, growing industrialization leads to higher energy demand and leakage from petrochemical industry and tanker leads to water pollution. In this scenario, finding out solution to generate clean water is highly essential. For oil/water separation, there are several methods available such as chemical precipitation and adsorption but membrane separation technique is considered to be a more cost and energy efficient process. Amphiphilicity nature of membrane are enhanced by making composite membrane with 2D material such as MXene, resulting in good electrical conductivity and hydrophilicity. This review is mainly classified into two sections: pure MXene and modified MXene. A variety of polymer is used to prepare composite membranes and MXene is modified to further enhance the properties suitable for particular applications.

  • It is recognized universally that international cultural exchanges have the potential to weaken ethnic rivalries and conflicts and promote cultural diversity rather than commercial interests. However, there are often cases in which these exchanges are transformed into private businesses with a great success in markets due to changes in cultural consumption patterns. This research aims to analyze the performance of international cultural exchanges and to develop a policy model that can guide the overseas market performance for Korean traditional performing arts. This study analyzes domestic and foreign cases for comparison. The domestic case is drawn from the research report published by Korea Arts Management Service and the foreign case is Ireland's Riverdance. The results of this study indicate that the policy political model in which a traditional culture may be translated globally with innovative performing activities has the potential to raise market performance overseas.

  • The amount of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions has been increasing steadily over the last 3 years (2009~2011), averaging 5.7 percent a year, due to the growth of low cost carriers and the increased demand for air transportations. The present study attempts to investigate the aviation fuel consumption and GHG emissions of Tier 3a type by the flight phase from three aircraft type such as B737-600(routes between Gimpo-Jeju airport), B737-700(routes between Gimpo-Jeju airport and Inchon-Narita), B737-800(routes between Inchon-Narita) using the Flight Operation Quality Assurance(FOQA) data of the year 2011.

  • As the urbanization progresses, the demand for parking in large cities surges compared with that for parking lots. However, the space for securing a parking lot in a large city is physically limited and a budget problem also arises. Therefore, a shared parking system that can utilize existing parking lots is becoming important. This study was carried out to analyze the parking area efficiently for the residents parking area. As a result of the questionnaire survey, it was the most frequent passage to work / commuting and business purposes. The most important factors in parking were 'Parking charge', 'Walking distance to the destination after parking', 'Parking lot searching time' Approximately 46 % of the respondents were female. As a result of the quantitative analysis of the factors influencing the potential use of the intention to use as a dependent variable, it was analyzed that the policy was effective to reduce the parking fee to less than 500 won per 10 minutes and take about 3-6 minutes to search.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide the necessary data to explore the development plans of consumer organizations by looking at the spatial distribution of consumer organizations. This is because community-based consumer organizations can propose concrete measures to solve consumer problems more effectively. In this study, data of 11 consumer organizations and 815 branches were collected and analyzed using local indicators of spatial distribution and spatial lag model. First, it was difficult to find patterns according to the geographical characteristics of the spatial distribution of consumer organizations. Second, consumer organizations were more distributed in areas with large populations and businesses and large areas. Third, there is a discrepancy between the demand and supply of consumer organizations when compared with the number of consumer counseling. Based on this, it is necessary to constantly seek concrete development plans by supplementing the qualitative data on the activities of consumer organizations.

  • With the technology of the 4th industrial revolution, network traffic is increasing due to an increase in supply, an increase in demand, and an increase in the complexity of traffic patterns. SDN, a concept in which H/W and S/W are separated in order to efficiently manage such massive traffic, is attracting attention as a next-generation network. A lot of research is being conducted on the merits of applying flexible policies by avoiding the problem of rigid vendor dependency by using the SDN controller implemented with S/W Opensource. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an efficient load balancing technique by grouping through the packet structure of the network layer using the control layer and infrastructure layer of SDN and analyzing the packet delay and reception rate.

  • This study intends to the estimate the determinants and state dependence of long-term care services in Korea. For this purpose, we analyzed the transition patterns among three states of long-term care service utilization over time by using the Korea Welfare Panel Study data with the random effect multinomial logit model. It is found that the result showed a strong state dependence in long-term care service utilization. Especially, long-term care insurance for the elderly showed a strong state dependence among others. Among the individual demographic characteristics, the higher the age, the higher the probability of using long-term care insurance for the elderly, while the lower the probability when married. The characteristics of the residential region showed that the residents of the urban-rural integrated region had a significantly higher probability of using long-term care insurance than the reference region. The results of this study suggest that the long-term care service users have a strong state dependence, which means that it is important to take into account the increase in the utilization period of existing users in future demand forecasting.
