Status and Plans on Low Emission Coal Energy (무공해 석탄에너지 현황 및 계획)

  • 석유 및 천연가스를 대체하는 자원으로 석탄이 유망하다고 전망하고 있다. 미국에서는 6대 파괴력이 있는 기술로 청정석탄기술이 선정되었고, 한국에서도 15대 그린에너지 중 하나인 청정연료에 석탄전환기술이 포함되어 전략로드맵이 작성되고 있다. 국내에서 추진되고 있는 석탄기술은 석탄가스화를 기반으로 하고 있다. 석탄가스화는 고체연료인 석탄을 $1000^{\circ}C$ 이상의 고온에서 산소와 반응시켜 일산화탄소와 수소가 주성분인 합성가스로 전환하는 기술이다. 석탄을 가스화하면 석탄에 포함된 불순물을 쉽고 완벽하게 제거할 수 있으며 특히 CO2 제거를 값싸게 할 수 있어 청정화가 가능하다. 최근 고유가를 겪으면서 열량이 높은 고급탄의 확보가 어려워지면서 가격이 낮고 수급이 용이한 저급탄을 활용하는 기술의 수요가 발생되어 국내에서 기업을 중심으로 저급탄을 고효율로 가스화하는 기술 개발이 시도되고 있다. 정제된 석탄가스는 성분을 조절하여 촉매에 의해 메탄으로 전환시킬 수 있고, 이렇게 제조된 가스를 합성천연가스(SNG)라 한다. 값싼 저급탄을 사용하면 SNG를 천연가스보다 저렴하게 생산할 수 있다. 국내 기업이 SNG 제조 실증시설을 도입하고, 동시에 핵심기술인 SNG 합성반응공정을 개발하는 사업을 추진하고 있다. 석탄가스를 촉매반응에 의해 디젤 및 �F싸로 전환하는 석탄간접액화기술은 현재 남아공 Sasol사에서 상업적으로 운전되고 있는 기술이나 국내로의 기술이전이 거의 불가능하다. 철을 기반으로 하는 고유 촉매와 scale-up이 가능한 반응기가 핵심인 기술로 국내에서 세미-파일럿급 액화공정 기술개발이 진행중이다. 전세계적으로 석탄액화공장의 수요가 현재의 15만배럴/일에서 2030년 240만배럴/일로 증가한다고 예측된다. 따라서 200조원 이상의 플랜트 시장이 기대되며 국산 가스화, SNG 및 액화기술로 상당부분의 시장을 장악하고자 한다.

  • A project is being implemented to develop the long distance energy transport technology using the chemical reactions. This project can be classified into three main research categories covering heat recovery reaction, long distance energy transport, and heat generation reaction. In this study, the methanol is selected as a system material since it shows several unique superior characteristics as follows: gaseous state of reactant and product, large heat of reaction, high yields of reaction at relatively low temperature, and also steady and economical supply. Furthermore, it is anticipated that the outcomes of this study can be widely applied to the related industries. A feasibility study was carried out to evaluate the economics of this technology which study was based on the following case: 10,000 households, 15km distance energy transportation, utilization of waste heat from power plant.

Firms' Optimal Adjustments to Demand Shocks:Wages, Workers, and Hours (수요 변동에 대한 기업의 임금 및 고용조정 패턴)

  • This paper investigates how firms adjust wages, employment and hours in response to demand shifts. It focuses on rigidities and asymmetries in such adjustments. Major findings are as follows. First, wage adjustments are fairly small compared with worker adjustments. Second, wage adjustments are asymmetric with respect to sales growth: there is no responsiveness of wage growth when sales are declining, while adjustments are significantly positive when sales are rising. On the contrary, worker adjustments are symmetric with respect to demand shifts. Third, while workers are linearly adjusted to the sales growth, some nonlinearity is observed in the wage adjustment. Fourth, hours are generally nonresponsive to demand shocks. Finally, union firms cut wages rather than workers in the face of negative demand shocks.

  • Demand Response is a well-known means usually operated by the system operator(SO) or the electricity retailers in order to reduce the peak loads or cut the price in electricity market. KPX(Korea Power eXchange), the SO in Korea has been operating the demand bidding program(or the demand resource market) since it was firstly introduced as the pilot project in 2008. The results has proved to be effective to enhance demand response. This paper describes the basic concepts and the operation results of the program.

Demand Pattern of the Global Passengers: Sea and Air Transport (글로벌 여객의 해상과 항공운송에 대한 수요패턴)

  • The main purpose of this paper is to estimate the impact of exchange rate and economic business activity on the passengers' demand for international transportation. The demand pattern depends upon the transport vehicles that the global passengers take. The global passengers' demand for transportation is modelled as exchange rate, industrial production and seasonal dummy variables. The seasonality is found in both water and air, but the former is far greater than the latter. All series span the period January 1990 to December 2008. The empirical results of this paper reveal that the income elasticity of sea transport is greater than that of air one, all of which are positive. The study also shows that the exchange rate has an significant impact on the demand for air transport, whereas it is insignificant in water transport. The impulse response function indicates that passengers increase steadily before peaking seven to eight months after the shocks to economic business activity and decline very slowly to its pre-shock level. The air passengers also respond negatively to the shocks in exchange rate and the impacts of exchange rate shock seem to decrease relatively slowly, while the water passengers respond positively after six months. The industrial production shocks remain above equilibrium for more than twenty four months, while the exchange rate shocks remain below equilibrium for more than twenty four months. Boosted by improved economic conditions worldwide, international tourism has recovered faster than expected from the impacts of the global financial crisis and economic recession of late 2008 and 2009. These facts suggest that the demand of global water transport has the high possibility of growing steadily and continuously.

  • The electricity demand in Korea has rapidly increased along with a steady economic growth since 1970s. Therefore Korea has positively propelled not only SSM(Supply-Side Management) but also DSM(Demand-Side Management) activities to reduce investment cost of generating units and to save supply costs of electricity through the enhancement of whole national energy utilization efficiency. However study for rebate, which have influence on success or failure on DSM program, is not sufficient. This paper executed to modeling mathematically an amount of potential participants considering rebates, which have influence on penetration amounts for DSM program using by 'A Survey of End-User for Energy Efficiency Demand Side Management Programs'.

An Estimation of Call Demand for the Internet Telephony (국내 인터넷전화의 통화수요 추정)

  • In this study, an estimation of call demand for the internet telephony was carried out using the monthly time-series data from June 2001 to December 2004. In the estimation, the call traffic was assumed to be explained by tariff of the internet telephony service, tariff of fixed and wireless services, income, quality of service, and lagged traffic variable. The traffic is assumed to follow the partial adjustment mechanism. The estimation result shows that the call traffic demand is elastic to the tariff of the service while it is inelastic to the change of income. The qualisty of service is regarded as an important factor of demand. Also there appeared the call demand is adjusting to the change of explanatory variables with some lags.

  • 전기차는 운송 부문의 온실가스 배출 감축 수단으로 상당한 주목을 받고 있다. 전기차의 사용을 장려하기 위해, 다수의 국가에서는 전기차 충전기 보급사업과 함께 전기차 구매자에게 상당액의 보조금을 지급하고 있다. 전력 시스템의 관점에서 볼 때, 계통에 연계된 전기차는 그 충전전력을 신속하게 감소시킬 수 있어, 충분한 통신 인프라가 구축된다면 고품질의 수요반응자원으로 활용이 가능하다. 이러한 가능성은 전기차 충전서비스사업자에게 전력시장에서 잠재적 수익을 기대하게 한다. 본 논문은 보조 서비스 및 시장 수요 반응 시장에서 전기차의 시장참여가 가능할 때, 전기차의 경제성을 극대화 할수 있는 스마트 충전 스케줄링 방법을 제안하고자 한다.

  • 스마트그리드(Smart Grid)는 기존의 단방향 전력망인 자동화 검침 장치(Automated Meter Reading, AMR)에서 발전하여 양방향으로 실시간 정보를 교환하는 '지능형 전력망'이다. 스마트그리드 환경에서는 수요 반응(Demand Response) 서비스를 이용하여 전력 사용을 효과적으로 분산 할 수 있다. 하지만 보안에 대한 대비가 충분하지 않을 시에는 데이터의 삽입, 변조에 의해 시스템이 오용될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 스마트 미터의 검침 값이 네트워크를 통해 전력정보처리시스템(Meter Data Management System, MDMS)까지 전달되는 과정에서 데이터 변조의 발생여부를 탐지할 수 있는 방법을 제안한다. 본 논문의 탐지 방법을 통해 신뢰성 있는 수요 반응 서비스를 제공할 수 있으며, 이는 효율적인 전력 사용을 유도할 것으로 기대된다.

  • During an emergency due to a shortage of power, a load aggregator (LA) can use the demand response operation system to deploy demand response resources (DRRs) through various demand response (DR) programs. This paper introduces the demand response operation system for a load aggregator to manage various demand response resources in a smart grid environment.
