  • This study deals with the proposals and the verification of the causal relationship between improvements of corporate manager's learning attitude for enterprises productivity and managerial effectiveness, the learner's familiarity and personal character strengths that are classified as positive psychology-based theory. For this study, researchers designed the structural equation model using the AMOS analysis. And researchers conducted the interviews using a questionnaire survey of quantitative research methods. Results of the analysis are as below. First, both online and offline classes were identified as the learner's character strengths affect the positive effect to the learner's familiarity strengths. Second, the learner's familiarity affects the positive effect to improvements of learning attitude. And the last, the learner's character strengths and improvements of learning attitude are not significant effect each other, therefore researcher could be found that the role of mediating variables of the learner's familiarity strengths. In this study, researchers analyzed the relationship between familiarity strengths and improving the learning attitudes needed for a desirable curriculum development considering the learners' personality factors. These findings contribute to an ideal course of study when educator design a curriculum and contribute to a successful communication strategy.

  • Purposes of this study were to explore the process of experience that science teachers go through when participating in peer coaching meetings to improve teaching ability and to find out factors that affect each process of experience. The data were collected through recording of peer coaching meetings, videotapes of science class, and interviews. All the data were analyzed after transcription. The results of the study showed that even though Teacher K broke the ice and formed consensus among the peers by developing Content Representation (CoRe) at the beginning of the meetings, he became self-defensive rather than receptive of peers' opinions on the recorded class at the discussion session. But as the peer coaching went on, he realized that peer coaching was not about evaluation but rather on improving his teaching ability. In turn, he was able to look at his teaching in a more objective point of view and accepted suggestions from peer coaching discussion. The self-reflection of Teacher K acted as the key factor in the efforts to improve his teaching ability. He sought the concrete alternatives through the class analysis with fellow teachers and showed major changes in his teaching practice from the language habits, pronunciation, and speed of his speech to the interaction with students and class design. However, there was little change in knowledge of curriculum and assessment due to his strong orientation to improve students' grades as an academic high school teacher. Likewise, it was found that while peer coaching exert a strong influence on instructional methods and strategies of Teacher K, his strong orientation to improve students' grades hinders a balanced development of subcomponents of PCK.

  • This study investigated the common features of the best practices in the science classroom, which is the core of school education. The underlying assumption of this research is that the fulfillment of school education is possible with substantial instruction of school curricular areas. The substantial learning of any curricular area depends on each classroom lesson. Data from classroom observations in-depth interviews with teachers and a group of students, a collection of instructional materials were used to extract common characteristics of best practices implemented by 10 exemplary secondary-school science teachers. Common features of best science practices were analyzed in terms of (1)reorganization of science content, (2)pedagogical skills, (3)evaluation, and (4)teachers' efforts for professional development. Results indicated that exemplary science teachers adapted curriculum and textbook content according to students' level and learning context, were able to use a variety of instructional methods and strategies, provided cooperative and intellectually challenging learning environment, and improved their instruction based on assessment results. Also, these exemplary teachers not only improved their own classroom practices, but also participated actively in various professional community of science teachers to share their practical knowledge with their colleagues. They took an active role in teachers' in-service education.

  • We investigated the conceptual and methodological characteristics of self-study as an innovational way with reflective research methods and explored the possibility of application of self-study in the field of science education by reviewing previous researches done in foreign countries. The results show that Self-study in education means the study of self, self-practice, self-thought, and so on in the teaching and learning context. It is a kind of new research method to pursue the improvement of teaching and learning practice with integrated perspectives on the context of instruction, identities of members, their beliefs and values, innovation agenda for better education, etc. This can be attained by collective and critical reflection in doing research. Most previous articles on the methodology of self-study suggested that the self-study should be more than just daily journals written only by her/him self. To do self-study in the academic way, they requested interaction with critical and cooperative colleagues, multiple but strict qualitative research methods, and participants' efforts for making better practice in instruction. Similar features to the above are found in the previous 14 self-study papers related to science education done in foreign countries. Based on the results, we concluded that self-study could be applied usefully into the field of science education in Korea. This paper could contribute to stimulation in the innovation of science instruction in a more practical way by increasing the attention to self-study and provoking its practice in Korea.

  • A syllabus can be considered to be a masterplan for good educational results. This study tries to diagnose the current status of landscape architectural design education and suggest improvement strategies for better landscape design courses through the analysis of the syllabi of mid-level landscape design studio classes collected from the four-year undergraduate programs. The findings and suggestions are as follows. First, it is necessary to take advantage of a syllabus as a contract as well as a plan and a learning tool. Second, it is crucial to make more detailed statement from the perspectives of learners. Third, more customized components for design courses should be developed; the syllabus should give the structure of a design class as an integration and synthesis of other courses. Fourth, it is necessary to increase the interrelationship and relevance among the components, especially between course objectives and evaluation criteria, and course activities and references. Fifth, a syllabus needs to function as a communication tool in a flexible manner. Sixth, a syllabus needs to give a comprehensive information about the site and the design project. Finally, instructors need to introduce a set of detailed evaluation rubrics or criteria acceptable to students in order to increase the fairness and transparency of the evaluation.

  • This study investigated perception of first-year college students who recently experienced technology education in their secondary education for describing contemporary technology classrooms. To accomplish this goal, survey and in-depth interview on their technology classrooms were employed. Participants in this study were 427 first-year college students who began their college life in 2013 and consisted of 224 students enrolled in 10 departments of educational major and 203 students who enrolled in 9 departments of other colleges. The instrument of this study consisted of preference toward technology classrooms and teachers, experience in the secondary technology classrooms, perception toward technology teachers, and suggestions for technology classrooms with five point Likert scales and open-ended questionnaires. And individual in-depth interviews with 22 volunteers who answered the instrument and consented the interview process were conducted. Based on the collected data, statistical and theme analyses were performed and the key findings were as follows. First-year students' experiences for technology classrooms were described with the theme of 'learning contents or activities'(54.4%). And the negative perception toward technology classrooms(29.1%) was larger than he positive perception(16.5%). The perception toward technology classrooms was also presented with two themes of teaching methods and subject interest. The perception toward technology teachers presented a medium level preference with several themes of teachers' teaching methods, teachers' personality, and subject interest. Lecture style method(60.48%) was largely used in the participants' technology classrooms and problem solving or collaborative methods was not frequent(19.31%). The participants indicated a need for improving teaching methods in technology education and suggested sufficient administration and curriculum supports and transitions of the learning contents. Further studies investigating the diverse public's perception toward technology and technology classrooms could be recommended.

  • In the past, Korean English language learners focused on knowledge of grammatical structures. Thus Korean trained instructors, who focused on explaining the grammar structures, were seen as being preferable for teaching in EFL (English as a foreign language) classrooms. However, with the focus changed to speaking capability Koreans now desire 'fluent' English more than 'accuracy' seeing if possible (Mottos, 1997). Current study has been concerned about the issue of how non-native learners of English perceive the difference between native teachers (NTs) and non-native teachers (non-NTs) of English in the context of ELT classroom. The study explores the issues and problems the followed and how non-NTs can enhance teaching practice of speaking and listening lessons through multimedia application.
