  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of environmental classes using EBS program on the environmental sensitivity and environmentally responsible behavior of 6th grade elementary school students. To this end, the 2015 revised elementary school curriculum was reconstructed for 6th grade students, and subject-centered environmental classes were planned, and EBS educational broadcasting environmental contents suitable for each class were applied and utilized. The conclusion of this study is as follows. First, this study analyzed the 2015 revised curriculum and reorganized the 6th grade curriculum and creative experience activities to plan the 22nd environmental class, specifying environmental sensitivity and environmentally responsible behavior that can have a positive impact on learners in each class. EBS educational broadcasting environmental contents that can be utilized were selected and environmental classes were conducted using them. Second, it was found that environmental classes using EBS educational broadcasting had a significant effect on improving the environmental sensitivity of elementary school students. The fact that environmental classes using EBS educational broadcasting goes beyond the spatial limitations of schools and informs that global citizens are interested in environmental problems and are working to solve environmental problems. Third, it was found that environmental classes using EBS educational broadcasting had a significant effect on elementary school students' environmentally responsible behavior. This is because environmental classes using EBS educational broadcasting do not stop at imparting knowledge, but suggest learning that leads to civic behavior, educational behavior, economic behavior, physical behavior, and persuasive behavior related to the environment.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide research results on how teacher background variables and teacher efficacy affect the teacher's instructional behavior of elementary school teachers in student participatory classes. A survey was conducted on 122 elementary school teachers in the G area and a regression analysis was conducted to analyze the relationship of influence between variables. As a result of the regression analysis, self-regulation efficiency and task difficulty preference had a significant impact on elementary teachers' instructional behavior. As for teaching knowledge, class motivation, which are sub-variable factors in class behavior, self-regulating efficacy had a higher influence than task difficulty preference and for class communication, task difficulty preference had a higher influence than self-regulating efficacy. Based on the results of the study, we considered ways to show desirable teaching behavior of elementary school teachers in student participatory classes.

  • Students are engaged in classroom learning, and classroom learning occurs not only through conversation but also through nonverbal behavior. In science classrooms especially, there are meaningful nonverbal behaviors such as practical activities like observation and measurement. But these behaviors have not been properly investigated by existing instruments that try to measure students' engagement. This study aims to develop a new instrument for analyzing students' behavioral engagement especially in science classrooms. The method of developing the instrument was structured along three steps. First, student behaviors have been classified into fourteen categories through literature review and a series of observation of elementary science classroom. Second, based on these, a framework for analyzing student behavioral engagement has been developed. With the framework, every student moment could be labeled as Participatory Speech or Participatory Silence or Non-Participatory Speech or Non-Participatory Silence. Third, an instrument to which the framework is applied has been developed by using Microsoft Excel. As a trial, two fourth-grade students in elementary science class were analyzed with this instrument. The results of the trial analysis shows that the longest period of a science lesson was occupied by Participatory Silence (63% and 72%). Among the participatory silence, 'listening' was the most common (51% and 42% of the trial lesson) and 'observing' which is a specific behavior to science was the fourth position (17% and 17% of the trial lesson). It is expected that the developed instrument could be used in improving our understanding of the patterns of student engagement in science classrooms.

  • This study was conducted to prove the structural relation of how effective teaching methods in remote design courses affects learning participation and academic achievement. The data was acquired and analyzed with case study of design classes. The scale of remote practical classes, learning participation and academic achievement were measured and the data acquired were verified using SPSS and AMOS to prove the influence. The results are as follows. First, using the lecture method in remote classes appeared to have a negative effect on cognitive, emotional, and behavioral participation. Second, flipped learning had a positive effect on cognitive and emotional participation but no effect was found on behavioral participation. Third, PBL had a positive effect on all emotional, cognitive, and behavioral participation. Fourth, videos did not have any meaningful effect on cognitive and emotional participation but had a positive effect on behavioral participation. Fifth, only cognitive participation had a positive effect on academic achievement, but no relations were found between emotional and behavioral participation and academic achievement. These results suggest that it is needed combining actual classes with the PBL method and flipped learning and creating different programs.
