  • This study is a similar experimental study before and after non-equivalence control to examine the effect of fundamental nursing practice education applying reciprocal peer tutoring on confidence in performance, core nursing skills, and practice satisfaction of nursing students. Data collected by 83 people sophomore P university nursing students, the study period is from May 17 to 11 March 2019. As a results, the fundamental nursing practice education applied with the reciprocal peer tutoring method had an effect on the confidence in performance and core nursing skills of 'medium' degree of difficulty, and had a positive effect on the satisfaction of practice. In the future, this study suggests that the method of reciprocal peer teaching is extended to various practical majors and the effects of core nursing skills are tested.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between a preoperative video program as nursing intervention and the perception of postoperative pain. The subjects consisted of an experimental group of 17 children and a control group of 13 children, for a total of 30 patients who were admitted the ENT Department for tonsilectomies. Data were collected from August 1, 1993 to September 31. The video program was made by the pediatric operating theater nursing staff. Postoperative painwas measured using the Face Pain Rating Scales devised by Beyer in 1984. The data were analyzed by a SPSS using frequencies, means, percentages, t-test and ANOVA to analyze the variables and demographic characteristics. The results of this study are as follows : The hypothesis, “Score of the experimental group which was shown the preoperative video program as a nursing intervention will be lower than the control group which did not see the video in postoperative pain perception.” was rejected by t=-.42, p>.05. No significant difference was found between the experimental group and the control group according demographic characteristics. From the above findings, this study suggests the following : 1. Further studies as randomized control-group pretest-posttest design are needed to control the extraneous variables. 2. A review will be suggested to be done by the preoperative video program as nursing intervention and an exploration to improve preoperative nursing care for pediatric patients with the inclusion such activities as preoperative visiting, operation theater tour etc.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of postoperative oral care using cold therapy on nausea, vomiting and oral discomfort after laparoscopic myomectomy. Method: The study was conducted with an experimental group (n=29) and a control group (n=35) sampled from patients admitted to a women's hospital in a metropolitan city in Korea. Data were collected between October 10, 2011 and January 31, 2012 and analyzed using Chi-square, Fisher's exact test, t-test, and repeated measure ANCOVA with SPSS/WIN 19.0. Results: After the intervention, postoperative nausea (p<.001) and oral discomfort for patients in the experimental group were significantly lower than in the control group. There were significant differences in the presence of vomiting between both groups at 12 hours (p<.001) and 24 hours (p=.003) after leaving the recovery room. Conclusion: Oral care using cold therapy was found to be an effective nursing intervention for reducing postoperative nausea, vomiting and oral discomfort up to 24 hours after recovery in patients with laparoscopic myomectomy.

  • This study is a nonequivalent control group pre- and post-test design research whose purpose was to determine what effects the pre-operation provision of information has on the anxiety and uncertainty of mothers with a pre-school child of tonsillectomy and nursing satisfaction after the operation. Data were collected from mothers whose child underwent tonsillectomy at S general hospital. For the collection, those mothers were divided into the experimental and control groups, respectively consisting of 19 and 20 members. The experimental group was provided general education about the operation. In addition, they individually received information about the procedure that the researcher and an assistant provided on one-to-one basis for about 20 minutes, in which brochures containing the information were used. While, the control group was provided only general education as mentioned above. For data analysis, this study conducted ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test and Mann-Whitney U-test. The pre-operation provision of information was found having brought significant differences between the control and experimental groups in their anxiety(U=104.5, p=.015) and uncertainty(U=83.5, p=.002) as well as their satisfaction after the operation(U=109.5, p=.022). The findings of this study strongly suggest that information provision before the operation is positively effective in reducing the anxiety and uncertainty of mothers with a tonsillectomy child and increasing their nursing satisfaction after the operation. These effects need to be more verified through repetitive and subsequent researches and by using many other methods of information provision.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to assess combined effects of early oral feeding after Cesarean section (C/S) under regional anesthesia on bowel function, gastrointestinal complications and surgical recovery. Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted using KISS, RISS, PubMed, CINAHL, EMBASE, CENTRAL and Google Scholar to identify randomized clinical trials comparing early oral feeding (EOF) with delayed oral feeding (DOF) after C/S. Outcome variables were bowel function and gastrointestinal complications and surgical recovery. Effect size was calculated using weighted mean differences (WMDs) and relative risks (RRs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: Seven studies involving 1,911 patients from 568 studies, 7 studies were included in meta-analysis. EOF was significantly associated with shorter time to recover bowel movement compared with DOF (WMD, - 2.50; CI, - 3.50~- 1.50). EOF was not associated with nausea (RR, 1.15; CI, 0.87~1.53) and vomiting (RR, 0.96; CI, 0.65~1.42), but lower incidence of abdominal distension (RR, 0.70; CI, 0.50~0.98). EOF was significantly associated with shorter time to discontinuation of intravenous fluids (WMD, - 8.88; 95% CI, - 16.65~- 1.11) and removal of urinary catheter (WMD, - 15.23; CI, - 25.62~- 4.85). Conclusion: This meta-analysis provides evidence that EOF after C/S under regional anesthesia not only accelerates return of bowel function and surgical recovery but also reduces gastrointestinal complications. These results suggest that EOF should be offered to women who have undergone C/S to improve the recovery experience and reduce overall medical costs.

  • This research is to figure out the influence of hand holding and Nea-Guan acupressure to anxiety and pain that local anesthesia patients feel in out patient operation room. Non equivalent control group pretest-posttest time series design was adopted and the data had been collected from Jul. to Oct. 2013. Total 78 local anesthesia patients of out patient operation room in the H Hospital were allotted by control group, experimental group 1( hand holding) and experimental group 2(Nea-Guan acupressure) which consisted of 26 patients each. Hand holding and Nea-Guan acupressure in this research was validated to relieve the anxiety and the pain of the local anesthesia patients in operation and can be adopted as an efficacious nursing interventions.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify factors associated with performance of nursing care for postoperative delirium of elderly patients among recovery room nurses. Methods: The research was a cross-sectional, descriptive design using questionnaires. The participants were 99 nurses from five urban recovery rooms. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and multiple regression with SPSS WIN 21.0. Results: The performance level of delirium nursing care was low because its mean score was 3.80 out of 5. Performance of nursing care was significantly positively correlated with the importance of nursing care and self-efficacy. Stepwise multiple regression analysis for performance of nursing care revealed that the most powerful predictor was the importance of nursing care. The importance of nursing care and self-efficacy explained 32.3% of the variance. Conclusion: The results indicate a need to enhance the performance of nursing care for postoperative delirium of elderly patients among recovery room nurses. The findings also suggest that consideration be given to strategies for improving the importance of nursing care and self-efficacy in developing programs to enhance the performance level of nursing care for elderly patients with postoperative delirium.
