Regional and Temporal Characteristics of Aquatic Organism Communities in Rice Paddy Fields, using Submerged Funnel Trap (수중트랩으로 채집된 논 수서생물 군집의 지역 및 시기별 특성)

  • Extensive monitoring of aquatic organisms in rice paddy fields has been difficult due to laborious sampling methods such as quadrat sampling using a hand net. This study aimed to analyze temporal and regional community compositions of aquatic organisms collected with a less time-consuming sampling method. This method involved using submerged funnel traps in rice paddy fields. Submerged funnel traps were useful for capturing taxa containing species that are indicative of environmental changes and highly mobile species that feed on waterbirds. Fifteen taxa including Ampullariidae, Cobitidae, Chironomidae, Hydrophilidae and Dytiscidae determined the community compositions. Among the major taxa, only Chironomidae resistant to environmental disturbances represented temporal variations of aquatic organism communities in rice paddy fields. Ampullariidae, Dytiscidae, and Hydrophilidae, which are prone to be affected by anthropogenic activities, differed among regions.

  • 쌀 생산관리 방법에 따른 논 생태계의 생물다양성을 조사하기 위하여 관행, 우렁이, 투구새우, 심수관개, 오리농법 등으로 구분하여 벼 재배기간 동안 수서생물종과 식물종을 조사하였다. 논물과 토양에 서식하는 생물종을 쿼드라트법을 활용하여 조사한 결과, 토양생물의 풍부도는 이앙기는 관행농법, 분얼기에는 투구새우 농법이 높았으며, 출수기에는 무논, 쌀겨 농법에서 가장 많은 토양생물이 서식하고 있었다. 또한, 줄 채집에 의한 수서생물 종은 분얼기와 출수기, 육상생물은 수확기때 풍부하였으며 관행농법은 분얼기에 가장 출현종이 많았던 반면 오리농법은 전 조사기간 동안 가장 개체수가 적었으며 무논+쌀겨농법이 생물다양성 기여도가 가장 높았다. 생물조사 결과 관행보다는 유기재배논에서 종 풍부도가 2배이상 높게 나타났으며, 쌀겨농법은 이앙기~분얼기까지는 쌀겨 분해에 따른 유기산에 의해 수서곤충이 급감되나 분얼기이후 개체수가 회복되어 무논+쌀겨구에서 가장 높았다. 전 조사지점 논둑의 식물 분포는 농법별 유의성이 없었으며 논둑의 우점식물은 쑥, 개망초,질경이, 클로버, 미나리, 미국가막사리, 쇠뜨기, 둑새풀, 미나리 등이었다. 출수기를 전후하여 관행논과 유기논, 그리고 둠벙의 유무로 구분하여 생물종을 조사한 결과, 먼저 관행논과 유기논에서 서식하는 생물종은 비슷하지만 수서생물의 개체수는 유기논이 관행논보다 43-54%나 많았다. 한편, 둠벙의 유무에 의한 생물조사에서는 둠벙이 있는 논이 없는 논보다 서식종이 35-47%정도 높은 경향을 나타내어 생물다양성을 증진하기위해서는 낙수기때 수서생물들의 피난처를 확보하여 주는 소규모 둠벙이 효과적인 것으로 판단되었다.

The Development of a Sampling Instrument for Aquatic Organisms in Rice Paddy Fields: Submerged Funnel Traps with Attractants (논 생태계 서식 수서생물 채집 도구 개발: 유인제를 사용한 수중트랩)

  • The need for an efficient sampling technique to collect aquatic organisms has risen with the increase of interest in rice paddy fields, which have been recognized as important ecosystems supporting biodiversity. In the present study, a submerged funnel trap used with the assistance of attracting agents (fish meal and chemical light) was designed as an easy, objective and quantitative tool for collecting aquatic organisms in the rice paddy fields. The preference for collecting aquatic organisms as a means for attracting agents was analyzed using a generalized linear mixed model. Also, based on the data of previous research, we compared the community composition of the aquatic macroinvertebrates, which were collected using the quadrat method, and newly designed submerged funnel traps, by analyzing non-metric multidimensional scaling. The results showed that the catching efficiency of 18 of the total 65 taxa was affected by the attracting agents. 12 taxa including Pomacea canaliculata, Hippeutis cantori, Austropeplea ollula, Erpobdella lineata, Ostracoda spp. Branchinella kugenumaensis, Hydaticus grammicus, Rhantus pulverosus, Chironomidae spp., Rana nigromaculata, Cobitidae spp. etc., favored fish meal and 6 taxa including Ischnura asiatica, Coenagrionidae spp. Sternolophus rufipes etc., were attracted by chemical light. The submerged funnel trap used as a measurement tool for biodiversity was less applicable than the quadrat method; however, it was more effective for the selective collection of specific taxa. We expect that this newly designed trap can be a simple and quantitative method for collecting aquatic organisms, and could be used for long term and extensive surveys in rice paddy fields in the future.

  • 감조하천 구간에서의 수면경사 및 유속분포 등 흐름특성은 조석의 영향으로 자연하천과 달리 매우 복잡하고 다양한 형태를 보이고 있다. 또한 하류에서 상류로 조류 유입시 해침으로 인한 염분도 상승으로 수서생물은 담수종에서 기수종 및 해수종으로 천이되고 있다. 섬진강 하구의 대표적인 수서생물인 재첩은 염분도 상승에 따라 폐각을 닫고 모래층으로 이동하는 특성을 보이고 있다. 이러한 관점에서 본 연구는 감조하천 구간에서의 취수장의 취수 규모에 따른 염분도 변화특성을 살펴보고, 하구 수서생물생활환경에 적합한 염분도를 유지할 수 있는 합리적인 취수장 운영방안을 마련하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 과거 취수장 상류의 유출량에 따른 취수규모별 하구 염분도 변화 특성을 분석하였다.

Risk Assessment for Aquatic Organisms of Pesticides Detected In Water Phase of Six Major Rivers in Korea (주요 하천수역에서 검출된 농약의 수서생물에 대한 위해성 평가)

  • Risk assessments of pesticides detected in six major rivers during peak season were estimated for algae, Daphnia, and fish using hazard quotient (HQ) indexes. The eight pesticides (isoprothiolane, hexaconazole, diazinon, chlorpyrifos, prothiofos, alachlor, butachlor, molinate) were detected within the range of 0.027~12.871 ${\mu}g/L$. Detection frequency of isoprothiolate was estimated to be high at 67.5%, and those of the others varied from 15.0 to 37.5%, Hazard Quotients (HQ) indexes varied by freshwater organisms (algae, Daphnia, and fish). Overall, the ecological risk probability due to exposure of pesticides detected in major rivers did not reveal based on HQ indexes below 1.0. Particularly, butachlor and molinate for algae, chlorpyrifos, diazinon, prothiofos for Daphnia, and chlorpyrifos for fish acted as dominant contributors in increasing the ecological risk in six major rivers. This implied that integrated ecological risk assessment is required using various biological species, reflecting toxicity sensitivity. This study may provide the essential data in establishing the priority for pesticides management in major rivers, Korea.

Fates of Cyfluthrin and Trichlorfon in Water and Their Impacts on Aquatic Organisms Following Aerial Application Over the Forest (삼림환경에 항공살포된 Cyfluthrin과 Trichlorfon의 물에서의 동태와 수서생물에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the behavior in the water and the impact on aquatic organisms following aerial application of two insecticides in the forest, cyfluthrin and trichlorfon, to control the alder leaf beetle. As active ingredients, 25g of cyfluthrin and 536g of trichlorfon per ha were diluted seperately into 30L of tap water, and applied with a helicopter to the study areas. A model stream study was also conducted in a stream located adjacent to the study area in order to confirm the impact of insecticides on aquatic invertebrates. Cyfluthrin residues in water were $0.62{\mu}g/L$ (1st. application) and $78{\mu}g/L$ (2nd application) immediately after spraying. and decreased, to a non-detectable level after one day, while trichlorfon residue increased to $30.7{\mu}g/L$ one day after spraying and fluctuated for 22th day depending on precipitation after spraying. Cyfluthrin application rapidly increased the number of some drifting aquatic invertebrates during 24-hour period immediately after spraying, but had no effects on the other aquatic organisms such as fish and zooplankton. The largest increase in the number of drifting organisms following application of cyfluthrin was shown by Ephemeroptera, and followed by Trichoptera, Coleoptera, and Diptera. However, trichlorfon little affected the number of drifting aquatic invertebrates and zooplankton population.

Health Assessment of Aquatic Ecosystem for Wonju Stream Using the Composition of Aquatic Insects (수서곤충을 이용한 원주천 수서생태계 건강도 평가)

  • This study conducted a survey on the ecosystem of Wonju stream from May until November in 2004 and made an health assessment of Wonju stream using family biotic indices(FBI) and physical habitat assessment(PHA) of the aquatic insects. Through this survey, aquatic insects covering 8 orders, 37 families, 62 genuses, and 92 species were observed at 9 stations along Wonju stream. In terms of family biotic indices, it was confirmed that station 1,2 and 3 were maintaining the healthiest stream ecosystem with the value ranging from 4.55 to 4.82. In addition, station 2 was found to have the best habitat environment in the correlation between physical habitat assessment and family biotic indices with its value of 100 and 4.82, respectively. However, station 7 and 9 showed the lowest habitat environment with the value of 45, 6.17 and 45, 6.97, respectively. posing the need for improvement in PHA; further, station 7 and 9 showed inverted correlationship between PHA and FBI.
