QUANTITATIVE COMPARISON OF PERMEABILITY IN THE ADHESIVE INTERFACE OF FOUR ADHESIVE SYSTEMS (열순환 후 상아질 접착 계면의 수분 투과성 변화에 대한 정량적 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to perform quantitative comparisons of water permeable zones in both the adhesive and the hybrid layer before and after thermo cycling in order to assess the integrity of the bonding interface. Twenty eight flat dentin surfaces were bonded with a light-cured composite resin using one of four commercial adhesives [OptiBond FL (OP), AdheSE (AD), Clearfil SE Bond (CL). and Xeno III (XE)]. These were sectioned into halves and subsequently cut to yield 2-mm thick specimens; one specimen for control and the other subjected to thermocycling for 10,000 cycles. After specimens were immersed in ammoniacal silver nitrate for 24 h and exposed to a photo developing solution for 8 h, the bonded interface was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and wavelength dispersive spectrometry (WDS) at five locations per specimen. Immediately after bonding. the adhesive layer of OP showed the lowest silver uptake, followed by CL, AD. and XE in ascending order (p < 0.0001); the hybrid layer of CL had the lowest silver content among the groups (p = 0.0039). After thermocycling, none of the adhesives manifested a significant increase of silver in either the adhesive or the hybrid layer. SEM demonstrated the characteristic silver penetrated patterns within the interface. It was observed that integrity of bonding was well maintained in OP and CL throughout the thermocycling process. Adhesive-tooth interfaces are vulnerable to hydrolytic degradation and its permeability varies in different adhesive systems, which may be clinically related to the restoration longevity.

Morphology and Oxidation Characteristics of Vacuum Evaporated Zn/PET Film (Zn/PET 증착 박막의 구조 및 산화 특성)

  • 본 연구에서는 폴리에스터(PET) 필름 위에 아연을 연속적으로 진공증착하는 실험을 수행한 후 얻어진 박막의 조직 및 조성을 SEM 및 AES로 조사하였다. 박막의 X-선 회절부석 결과, 2$ heta$=36。에서 아연의(0002)면이 주피크로 나타났으며 투과전자 현미경 관찰 결가 hcprn조로 증착시 basal plane인 (0001)면에 평행한 방향으로 우선 성장한다. 대기중 노출시 증착필름은 수분 및 산소와 반응하여 매우 다공성이며 부착성이불량한 산화피막을 형성하기 때문에 1차피막형성 후에도 산화가 지속적으로 진행되 었다. 박막내 존재하는 산소의 농도는 내부로 갈수록 지수함수적으로 감소하다가 증착금속과 기판간의 계면에서 다시 증가하는 경향을 보인다. 박막의 부식 특성을 조사현 결과 균일한 산화막 형성과 더불어 수분 존재하에 아연충에 미세한 pin hole 이 공극 부분부터 형성되어 개수가 증가하며 주위로 확장되는 형태를 나타내고 있다.

Preparation of Oligo Hyaluronic Acid by Hydrolysis and Its Application as a Cosmetic Ingredient (저분자량 히알루론산의 제조 및 화장품에의 응용)

  • In order to investigate the potential of very low molecular weight hyaluronic acid(oligo HA) as a cosmetic ingredient, we first measured its cytotoxicity in fibroblast, keratinocyte, and SIRC cell lines. For efficacy test, its moisturizing effect and penetration rate were evaluated in an artificial skin system and Caco-2 cells. Oligo HA did not show any cytotoxicity at a concentration of 300 ${\mu}g/mL$ in fibroblasts and 1,000 ${\mu}g/mL$ in keratinocytes but it showed weak proliferation. In vitro ocular test, oligo HA showed negligible cytotoxicity at the maximum concentrations used(2,000 ${\mu}g/mL$) in SIRC cells. In the test of the single and repeated cutaneous applications, oligo HA under occlusive patch did not provoke any cumulative irritation and sensitization. Oligo HA at a concentration of 0.01 % exhibited a more potent moisturizing effect than hyaluronic acid at a concentration of 0.01 %. In the permeability test using artificial skin and Caco-2 cell lines, hyaluronic acid(M.W. $1.1{\times}10^6$) was hardly observed in the down medium of the inserts. On the other hand, oligo HA(M.W. 5,000) was detected in the down medium up to 16.0 % at 6 h in Caco-2 cell culture and up to 90 % at 6 h in an artificial skin system. These results suggest that oligo HA could be useful as an active ingredient for cosmetics.

Development of surface functional coating thin film utilizing combined processes of plasma activation surface treatment and nanoclay dispersion: In applications for transparent water vapor and oxygen barrier packaging films (플라즈마 활성화 표면처리 공정과 나노클레이 분산 적층 코팅을 이용한 표면 기능성 코팅 박막 개발: 수분 및 산소 차단성이 우수한 투명 포장재)

  • Barrier films for transparent packaging materials with excellent moisture barrier properties are prepared, utilizing a nanoclay dispersion coating layer formed after a pretreatment process of plasma activation surface treatment process under vacuum at room temperature. Attention is paid on optimizing the coupling additive through the appropriate crosslinking process and optimal dispersion process of the coating process to enhance adhesion. Analysis of the functional coating thin film shows that the water vapor transmission rate is less than 10 g/m2/24 hrs (ASTM F-1249) and the oxygen transmission rate is less than 30 cc/m2/24 hrs (ASTM D3985). It is shown that water barrier properties of coating thin film prepared in this study are greater than conventional untreated films by 10 times or more. The thickness of the transparent gas barrier film is within 0.1 mm, and the transparent gas barrier complex is implemented in two layers. In the study of PET thin film interface characteristics, FT-IR experimental analysis shows the reaction activity was optimized at RDS 1.125 %.

Fabrication of edible gelatin-based films by heat pressing (열 압착을 이용한 가식성 젤라틴 필름 제조)

  • In this study, edible films made of fish and mammalian gelatins were produced using heat pressing, and their physical properties were investigated. Transparent and smooth films were formed continuously and uniformly using a mixture of fish skin gelatin (FG) or mammalian gelatin (MG), glycerol, and water under the process of heat pressing at 90℃ and 20 MPa for 5 min. Heat-pressed FG films possessed lower light transmittance and tensile strength than heat-pressed MG films; however, their appearance, surface morphology, water vapor permeability, lightness, and redness were not different from those of heat-pressed MG films. Although heat-pressed FG films had lower tensile strength, they had a flatter and more uniform surfaces and demonstrated higher transparency and moisture barrier properties compared to the casted FG films. These results demonstrate the potential utility of heat pressing for the large-scale production of edible films using both FG and MG.

Improvement of Barrier Property of LDPE Food Packaging Film by Plasma Polymerization (플라스마 중합을 이용한 LDPE 식품포장 필름의 차단성 향상)

  • Ultrathin films were coated on low density Polyethylene (LDPE) food packaging films by plasma polymerization of methane, acetylene, hexamethyldisiloxane (HMDSO), and HMDSO+oxygen to improve the barrier property of the LDPE films. The film coated in HMDSO +oxygen (flow rate: 0.6+ 9.0 SCCM) plasma at 40 W for 10 min showed the highest improvement in the barrier property against oxygen, reducing the permeability of oxygen as much as 18.6 times. The film coated in acetylene (flow rate 0.75 SCCM) plasma at 10 W for 10 min showed the highest improvement in the barrier property against carbon dioxide and moisture, reducing the permeability of carbon dioxide and moisture as much as 12.0 and 3.0 times, respectively. In addition, cherry tomato, cucumber, and mushroom (Flammulina velutipes) wrapped with the coated films were kept fresh $1.5{\sim}3.0$ times longer than those wrapped with an LDPE film.

성막직전 기판 열처리가 롤투롤 스퍼터를 이용하여 성장시킨 터치 패널용 ITO 투명 전극의 특성 미치는 효과 연구

  • 본 연구에서는 저가격, 대면적화를 위한 롤투롤 스퍼터를 설계&개발하고, 성막직전 PET 기판의 열처리 유무를 통한 ITO 박막을 성막 시킨 저항막 방식의 터치 패널용 투명 전극에 대하여 전기적, 광학적, 구조적, 표면적 특성을 분석하였다. 롤투롤 스퍼터는 degassing챔버와 스퍼터 챔버가 한 시스템에 구성되었고, Degassing 챔버는 좌우측의 Rewinder/Unwinder 롤러에 의해 감고 풀어지는 PET기판의 수분 및 가스를 중앙부에 위치한 히터를 통해 제거하며, 수분 제거 후 스퍼터 챔버로 옮겨진 1250 mm폭의 PET기판을 Unwinder/Rewinder 롤러에 장착하며, Unwinder 롤러로부터 풀려진 PET 기판은 guide 롤러를 거쳐 cooling drum과의 물리적 접촉에 의해 PET 기판의 냉각이 일어나게 된다. ITO 캐소드 전에 장착된 할로겐 히터 상부로 기판이 지나가면서 열처리가 진행되고 열처리 후 두 개의 ITO 캐소드 상부를 지나면서 연속적으로 ITO 박막이 PET 기판에 성막 되게 된다. ITO 박막의 주요 성막 변수인 DC Power, Ar/$O_2$ 가스 유량비, 기판의 속도는 최적으로 고정하고, 성막 직전 기판의 열처리에 유무에 따른 ITO박막의 필름을 각각 고온 챔버에서 $140^{\circ}C{\times}90min$ 동안 열처리를 통한 내열성 테스트를 진행하여 ITO 필름의 특성 향상을 비교 분석하였다. 분석을 위해 전기적 특성은 four-point probe로 측정했고, 투과도는 Nippon Denshoku사(社)의 COH-300A를 이용해 가시광(550nm)에서 분석했고, FE-SEM으로 ITO박막 의 표면 상태를 분석하였다. 또한 Bending Tester(Z-100)를 이용하여 기계적 안정성을 분석하였다. 성막직전 PET 기판의 열처리를 하지 않은 ITO박막은 고온의 챔버 에서 $140^{\circ}C{\times}90min$ 동안 내열성 테스트 후 면저항이 511($\omega/\Box$)에서 630($\omega/\Box$)으로 높아졌으나, 성막직전 열처리를 통한 ITO 박막인 경우에는 465($\omega/\Box$)에서 448($\omega/\Box$)로 안정화 되었고, 투과율은 성막직전 열처리를 통해 1%향상되어 89%를 보였고, 유연성 또한 보다 우수한 특성을 보였다. 표면 조도는 평균 0.416 nm의 낮은 값을 보였다. 이는 PET 기판의 degassing 공정 중 충분히 제거되지 않은 가스나 불순물을 성막직전 열처리 공정으로 충분히 제거하여 깨끗한 PET 기판 상에 ITO 박막을 성막시키고, 열처리시 기판에 주어진 열에너지에 의해 보다 밀도가 높은 ITO 박막이 성장했기 때문으로 사료 된다.

Study of Hydrophobic and Barrier Properties of Vinyltriethoxysilane Modified Poly (Vinyl Alcohol) / Poly (Acrylic Acid) Films (비닐트리에톡시실란으로 개질된 폴리비닐알코올 / 폴리아크릴산 필름의 내수성 및 차단성 연구)

  • Aqueous poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) solution was modified by using hydrophobic vinyltriethoxysilane (VTEOS) and then adding different amounts of poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) to the resulting solution. Thermal and mechanical properties, contact angle, water vapor transmission rate (MVTR) and oxygen gas transmission rate ($O_2TR$) of the film samples fabricated by these solutions were investigated. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of the VTEOS-modified films was sightly increased and the value remained unchanged according to the amount of PAA. The tensile strength of the VTEOS-modified films was found to be 9.48~10.72 $kg/mm^2$ which showed no significant difference compared with that of PVA. The film prepared with VTEOS-modified PVA/PAA (= 90/10), of which the swelling and solubility were measured to be 198% and 0%, respectively, showed improved water-resistance. The MVTR and $O_2TR$ for the PET film (thickness 50 ${\mu}m$) coated with VTEOS-modified PVA/PAA (= 90/10) film (thickness 2.5 ${\mu}m$) were measured to be 11.04 $g/m^2/day$ and 3.1 $cc/m^2/day$, respectively.

Studies on the Physical and Thermal Properties of the Chitosan/Gelatin Blend (키토산/젤라틴 블랜드 폴리머의 물리적 및 열적 특성에 대한 연구)

  • To mass-produce useful biopolymer films, chitosan/gelatin blend films were prepared by solution casting method. Effects of mixing ratio, tensile strength (TS), elongation (E) at break, total color difference (${\Dalta}E$), opacity, water vapor permeability (WVP), oxygen permeability (OP), and thermal properties on chitosan/gelatin blend films properties were investigated. TS, E, ${\Dalta}E$, opacity, WVP, and OP values were 58.24-22.01 MPa, 13.11-24.67%, 1.86-17.45, 0.3104-1.2161 nmO.D./${\mu}m$, $1.6875-1.7225ng{\cdot}m/m^{2}{\cdot}s{\cdot}Pa$, and $2.2380{\times}10^{-7}-2.2975{\times}10^{-7}\;mL{\cdot}{\mu}m/m^{2}{\cdot}s{\cdot}Pa$, respectively. TS of blend films decreased, while E, ${\Dalta}E$, and opacity increased with increasing chitosan content. WVP of blend films did not show any significant relationship with mixing ratio and thickness of blend films. Miscibility of films was examined over entire composition range by thermogravimetric analyzer (TGA) and dynamic mechanical analyzer (DMA). TGA results showed gelatin is more thermally stable than chitosan and some interactions among functional groups of two biopolymers. Glass transition temperature $(T_{2})$ of films as determined by DMA decreased with increasing content of chitosan in the blend. Results of thermal analysis indicate high miscibility among polymer components in the blend.

Prediction of Shelf-Life of Chewing Gum Based on Moisture Gain and Loss (흡탈습량에 의한 츄잉껌의 Shelf-Life 예측)

  • The shelf-life of wrapped chewing gum(7 sticks) under the climate condition of Seoul was predicted by using moisture gain equation to reach safe moisture limits of 3.16% (dry basis). The overall water vapor permeability of multilayer packaging material was about 0.00045g water/pack day mmHg. The water activity of chewing gum at any temperature was predictable using Clausius-Clapeyron equation. The most significant loss of shelf-life was occurred between June and July, and most products reached the end of shelf-life at July and August. The product which were made in October and November had the longest shelf-life as seven months.
