This paper presents a differential interferometry technique for soil moisture change detection by measuring surface-height variation. COSMO-SkyMed SAR images were used to verify the DInSAR(differential interferometric SAR) technique. The soil penetration depth changes according to soil moisture, that causes phase change of the received signal. The height of soil surface and its displacement can be detected by a radar interferometry technique using phase difference of two received signals. To retrieve displacement variation, one of three SAR images is used as a reference image. Reference image and other two images are processed by the differential interferometry technique in the same area. The soil moisture was measured for the test sites to verify the DInSAR technique. The penetration depth is calculated by using the in-situ measured soil moisture data and it is compared with the displacement values acquired by the DInSAR technique.
This research investigated the 2001 spring drought on croplands in South Korea using satellite imagery. South Korea has suffered from spring droughts almost every year. Meteorological indices have been used for monitoring droughts, however they don't tell the local severity of drought. Therefore, this research aimed at detecting the local, spatial pattern of drought severity at a cropland level. This research analyzed the agricultural drought using the wetness of remotely sensed pixels that affects the growth of early crops significantly in the spring. This research, specifically, analyzed the spatial distribution and severity of drought using the tasseled cap transformation and topographical factors. The wetness index from the tasseled cap transformation of Landsat 7 ETM/sub +/ imagery was very useful for detecting the 2001 spring drought susceptibility in agricultural croplands. Especially, the wetness values smaller than -0.2 were identified as the croplands that were suffering from serious water deficit. Using the water deficit pixels, drought severity was modeled finally.

Monitoring crop growth changes and water content is crucial in the agricultural sector. This study utilized drones equipped with Short Wavelength Infrared (SWIR) sensors, sensitive to moisture changes, to observe soybeans' growth and water content variations. We confirmed that as soybeans grow more vigorously, their water content increases and differences in irrigation levels lead to decreases in vegetation and moisture indices. This suggests that waterlogging slows down soybean growth and reduces water content, highlighting the importance of detailed monitoring of vegetation and moisture indices at different growth stages to enhance crop productivity and minimize damage from waterlogging. Such monitoring could also preemptively detect and prevent the adverse effects of moisture changes, such as droughts, on crop growth. By demonstrating the potential for early diagnosis of moisture stress using drone-based SWIR sensors, this research suggests improvements in the efficiency of large-scale crop management and increases in yield, contributing to agricultural production.
Precipitation is one of a major causes of landslides by rising of pore water pressure, which leads to fluctuations of soil strength and stress. For this reason, precipitation is the most frequently used to determine the landslide thresholds. However, using only precipitation has limitations in predicting and estimating slope stability quantitatively for reducing false alarm events. On the other hand, Soil Moisture (SM) has been used for calculating slope stability in many studies since it is directly related to pore water pressure than precipitation. Therefore, this study attempted to evaluate the appropriateness of applying soil moisture in determining the landslide threshold. First, the reactivity of soil saturation level to precipitation was identified through time-series analysis. The precipitation threshold was calculated using daily precipitation (Pdaily) and the Antecedent Precipitation Index (API), and the hydrological threshold was calculated using daily precipitation and soil saturation level. Using a contingency table, these two thresholds were assessed qualitatively. In results, compared to Pdaily only threshold, Goesan showed an improvement of 75% (Pdaily + API) and 42% (Pdaily + SM) and Changsu showed an improvement of 33% (Pdaily + API) and 44% (Pdaily + SM), respectively. Both API and SM effectively enhanced the Critical Success Index (CSI) and reduced the False Alarm Rate (FAR). In the future, studies such as calculating rainfall intensity required to cause/trigger landslides through soil saturation level or estimating rainfall resistance according to the soil saturation level are expected to contribute to improving landslide prediction accuracy.

In 2011, floods were at the worst stage of devastation in Chao Phraya river basin of Thailand. The purpose of this study is to trace the flood inundation area around Chao Phraya river basin by using Terra MODIS image because it has the ability of spatiotemporal dynamics. The MODIS indices, which included the enhanced vegetation index(EVI), land surface water index(LSWI), and the difference in the values of EVI and LSWI(DVEL), were extracted from MODIS product MOD09 8-day composite datasets with a spatial resolution of 500m from Jul. 29, 2011 to Jan. 09, 2012. We found that combined application of EVI, LSWI, and DVEL was suitable for monitoring flood inundation. For the extracted flood inundation area and water-related area. The result can be used to acquire the flood inundation data scattered and demonstrate the potential for the use of MODIS data for temporal and spatial detection of flood effects.

본 연구 결과는 향후 국외 토양수분산출 전용 위성들인 SMOS(Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity)와 SMAP(Soil Moisture Active/Passive) 자료들을 생산하는데 활용된다면, 전 지구적 토양수분 정보제공에 기여할 수 있을 것으로 예산된다.

In previous research, the coastal wetlands were detected by using the vegetation indices or land cover classification maps derived from the multispectral bands of the satellite or aerial imagery, and this approach caused the various limitations for detecting the coastal wetlands with high accuracy due to the difficulty of acquiring both land cover and topographic information by using the single remote sensing data. This research suggested the efficient methodology for detecting the coastal wetlands using the sentinel-2 satellite image and SRTM(Shuttle Radar Topography Mission) DEM (Digital Elevation Model) acquired in Gomsoman Bay, west coasts of South Korea through the following steps. First, the NDWI(Normalized Difference Water Index) image was generated using the green and near-infrared bands of the given Sentinel-2 satellite image. Then, the binary image that separating lands and waters was generated from the NDWI image based on the pixel intensity value 0.2 as the threshold and the other binary image that separating the upper sea level areas and the under sea level areas was generated from the SRTM DEM based on the pixel intensity value 0 as the threshold. Finally, the coastal wetland map was generated by overlaying analysis of these binary images. The generated coastal wetland map had the 94% overall accuracy. In addition, the other types of wetlands such as inland wetlands or mountain wetlands were not detected in the generated coastal wetland map, which means that the generated coastal wetland map can be used for the coastal wetland management tasks.
Potholes are caused by the presence of water in the underlying soil structure, which weakens the road pavement by expansion and contraction of water at freezing and thawing temperatures. Recently, automatic pothole detection systems have been studied, such as vibration-based methods and laser scanning methods. However, the vibration-based methods have low detection accuracy and limited detection area. Moreover, the costs for laser scanning-based methods are significantly high. Thus, in this paper, we propose a new pothole detection system using a commercial black-box camera. Normally, the computing power of a commercial black-box camera is limited. Thus, the pothole detection algorithm should be designed to work with the embedded computing environment of a black-box camera. The designed pothole detection algorithm has been tested by implementing in a black-box camera. The experimental results are analyzed with specific evaluation metrics, such as sensitivity and precision. Our studies confirm that the proposed pothole detection system can be utilized to gather pothole information in real-time.

The appearance of variant malicious codes using obfuscation techniques is accelerating the spread of malicious codes around the detection by a vaccine. n a system does not patch detection patterns for vulnerabilities and worms to the vaccine, it can be infected by the worms and malicious codes can be spreaded rapidly to other systems and networks in a few minute. Moreover, It is limited to the conventional pattern based detection and treatment for variants or new malicious codes. In this paper, we propose a method of behavior based detection by the static analysis, the dynamic analysis and the dynamic monitoring to detect a malicious code using obfuscation techniques with the PE compression. Also we show that dynamic monitoring can detect worms with the PE compression which accesses to important resources such as a registry, a cpu, a memory and files with the proposed method for similarity.
