The Bending Fatigue Behavior Analysis of Rail by Bending Fatigue Test (실물 휨 피로시험을 통한 철도레일의 휨 피로거동 분석)

  • The replacement criterion of rail by accumulated passing tonnage was estimated by the bending fatigue life of rail. In order to estimate the bending fatigue life, it is basically needed to analyze bending fatigue behavior on the rail. In this study, the bending fatigue test were performed for 50kg/m and 60kg/m rails, and test specimens were distinguished by new and used rails and by the types of welded rail such as base material, thermite weld, and gas pressure weld. Also, this study analyzed the fractured surface, the position of initial crack and the bending fatigue behavior (S-N curve). Therefore, it evaluated S-N curve for welded rails according to the fracture probability. The result from this study might be used essential data in order to estimate the bending fatigue life of rail by the accumulated passing tonnage.

  • Stainless steel sheets are widely used as the structural material for railroad cars and commercial vehicles. Structures made of stainless steel sheets are commonly fabricated by gas welding, For the fatigue design of gas welded joints such as fillet joints, it is necessary to obtain design information of the stress distribution at the weldment as well as the fatigue strength of the gas-welded joints. Further, the influence of the geometrical parameters of gas-welded joints on stress distribution and fatigue strength must be evaluated. in this study, ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curves were obtained by fatigue tests. and, the ${\Delta}P-N_f$ curves were rearranged on the basis of the ${\Delta}{\sigma}-N_f$ relation for the hot-spot stresses at the gas-welded joints. These results, were used for conducting an accelerated life test(ALT) From the experiment results, an acceleration model was derived and factors were estimated. The objective is to obtain the information required for the analysis of the fatigue lifetime of fillet welded joints and for data analysis by the statistic reliability method to save time and cost and to develop optimum accelerated life prediction plans.

고성능 콘크리트의 정의 및 교량 바닥판의 실용화

  • HPC를 사용한 장기수명 바닥판 콘크리트의 시공에 관한 4가지 접근방법을 제시하였다. Nebraska, New Hampshire, Texas 그리고 Virginia 등 4개주의 프로젝트에서 보면 아래와 같이 여러 가지 유사성을 알 수 있었다. $\cdot$ HPC의 사용은 장기 수명의 교량 바닥판을 건설하기 때문에 life cycle cost와 유지관리비의 감소가 예상된다. $\cdot$ 교량 바닥판에 대한 HPC의 중요성은 더 큰 강도보다는 내구성과 시공성을 일관성있게 양호하게 개선한다는 것이다. $\cdot$ 그 지역의 재료와 기존의 방법을 가능한 최대한 범위로 사용한다. $\cdot$ 많은 실험실 및 현장 시험 배합표가 개발되었고 배합되었다. 성능 특성은 혼합 재료의 형태, 상품 및 배합에 따라 다르게 나타났다. $\cdot$ 향상된 성질을 갖는 균일하고 일관성 있는 제품의 사용에 덧붙여 적절한 시공 기술은 장기 수명의 콘크리트 구조물을 위해서는 필수적이다. $\cdot$ 알카리-골재 반응을 갖고 있는 지역이나 높은 황산염을 갖고 있는 지역과 같이 특별한 문제점이 예상되는 지역에서는 화학적 내구성을 검토하기 위해 별도의 실험이 필요하다. $\cdot$ 현장에서 소요의 성능특성을 얻기 위해서는 시작부터 모든 분야 사이의 원활한 의견 교환과 협력이 요구된다.

Estimation of Storage Life for Propellant Bag by Using Gamma Process Model (감마과정 모델에 의한 장약포의 저장수명 예측)

  • The purpose of this paper is to present a method to estimate the storage life of propellant bag for degradation of breaking load with storage time by using gamma process model. The nitrogen compound generated by natural decomposition of propellants degrades the breaking load of propellant bag with time. The statistical distributions of condition and lifetime with time were shown from the results of accelerated life test of propellant bag cloth at $80^{\circ}C$. It was found that the use of median for life was highly appropriate and the $B_1$ or $B_5$ life should be selectively applied to the quality assurance policy.

  • Helicopter rotor systems are dynamically loaded structures with many composite components such as the main and the tail rotor blades. The fatigue properties of composite materials are extremely important to design durable and reliable helicopter rotor blades. The safe-life methodology has generally been used in the helicopter industry to substantiate dynamically loaded composite components. However, it cannot be used to evaluate the strength reducing effects of flaws and defects that may occur during manufacturing and operational usage. The damage tolerance methodology provides a proper means to overcome this shortcoming; however, it is difficult to economically apply it to every composite component. The flaw tolerant methodology is an equivalent option to the damage tolerance methodology for civil and military rotorcraft. In this study, the flaw tolerant safe-life evaluation is described and illustrated by means of successful application to substantiate the retirement time of composite rotor blades.

Development of Fatigue Model for Airfield Concrete Pavement (공항 콘크리트 포장의 피로모형 개발 연구)

  • There are two methods in estimating the remaining life of in-service airfield concrete pavement. They are a method simply using the past accumulated traffic and a method using the theoretical mechanistic analysis. Since the former method is somewhat far from the actual condition, the latter method is widely used by most engineers and researchers. The most essential component of the latter method is the fatigue model of the concrete slab. A fatigue model for airfield concrete pavement is developed in this study by a series of fatigue tests using 30 concrete cylinder specimens obtained from a 10 year old in-service airfield concrete slab. Strengths for the stress ratio calculation were obtained from the split tensile test of the cores sliced. Fatigue test mode was repeated split tensile test. The R2 of developed fatigue model was 0.5. Specimens taken from another airport had been tested for validation of the model. The results showed a good fit to the model. It was also found that the fatigue life predicted from the model was a tittle greater when the stress ratio is greater than 80 percent than other fatigue models developed earlier in America.

  • In order to estimate the fatigue life of mufflers at the early stage of researches and designs, the new prediction process was developed by the artificial neural network, which has the algorism of weldment properties. Bending fatigue test was carried out for defining the characteristics of muffler weldment fatigue life and damage. For considering and predicting mechanical and fatigue properties of the muffler, the maximum stress of weldment was adapted as the variable of artificial neural network training. Also, it was compared with the fatigue life predicting results using fatigue notch factors, for proving the newly developed process of the artificial neural network.

  • Low-cycle thermal fatigue problem resulting from multiple use of a liquid rocket engine has to be considered for the development of a reusable launch vehicle. In this study, life prediction equations suggested by previous researchers were compared as applied to various copper alloy cases to predict fatigue lives from tensile test data. The present study has revealed that among the presently considered life prediction methods, universal slopes method provides the best life prediction result for the copper alloys, and the modified Mitchell's method provides the best life prediction result for oxygen free high conductivity (OFHC) copper.

  • KF-16 항공기용 F100-229 엔진 부품 중 국내에서 생산되는 부품에 대한 초도품 품질보증방법의 일환으로 내구성시험을 국내에서 수행하였다. 그동안 국내에서의 항공기 엔진산업은 사용중인 엔진의 정비 혹은 민항기 엔진 일부 부품을 기계 가공하여 납품하는 수준이었으므로 특별한 품질보증 시험이 요구되지 않았으나, KFP 사업을 시작하면서 일부 주요부품은 국내에서 직접 생산하여 KF-16 항공기용 엔진에 장착하게 되므로 완제 엔진을 조립 생산할 수 있는 능력의 확보뿐만 아니라 적절한 품질보증 대책이 요구되었다. 이에 따라 국내 생산된 완제 엔진의 조립성과 일부 단품에 대한 품질보증 확보방안으로 엔진의 개발 및 부품개량시 설계수명 및 설계규격의 만족여부를 검증하는 시험인 엔진 내구성시험(Engine Accelerated Mission Test)기법을 적용하여 1차와 2차에 걸쳐 품질보증시험을 수행하였다. 시험결과 완제 엔진의 조립성, 추진성능, 부품의 내구도 확인에 의한 품질보증 적합성 여부를 확인할 수 있었으며, 본 시험평가 기법을 통하여 시험 후 부품의 검사 및 평가방법과 기준을 제시하였고, 군용 엔진 내구성시험의 요구조건, 시험절차, 시험항목 등을 확립하였다.

Application of Stepped Isothermal Methods to Lifetime Prediction of Geogrids (SIM을 적용한 성토보강용 지오그리드의 수명예측)

  • The failure of geogrids can be defined as an excessive creep strain which causes the collapse of slopes and embankments. In this study, the lifetime of knitted polyester geogrids was predicted by using SIM(Stepped Isothermal Methods using TTS principal) and statistical data analysis techniques. The results indicate that the creep strain was 8.74, 8.79, 8.80% with 2.16~2.20% of CV% at 75, 100, 114 years, respectively and the creep strain reaches 9.3% after 100 years of usage at $27^{\circ}C$ which meets the required lifetime(creep strain less than 10% after 100 years of usage) in the fields. The SIM method is shown to be effective in reduction of uncertainty associated with inherent variability of multi-specimen tests and shorter test times than conventional TTS(Time-Temperature Superposition).
