  • The study is aimed to find out the causes of rapidly increasing chloride (Cl$^{-}$) concentration of the Samyang 3rd pumping station originated from coastal springs of Cheju since January 1996. The study results show that it was caused by following complicated natural and anthropogenic effects. Due to severe draught in 1996 with total rainfall of only 41.7% of annual mean of the last 36 years (1991 to 1995), it creates firstly), significant decrease of the spring discharges as well decline of the groundwater level at the site . Sea water level was in general 4.4 cm to 12.4 cm higher than the groundwater level of the site during 2 to 3.8 hours at each high tide. Those higher potential head of sea water motivates the sea water intrusion into the fresh water lens through the permeable clinkers and fracture zones situated beneath the existing grouted zone which was installed to a maximum 10 m below the ground water surface, The repeated expansion and contraction of the fresh water lens occurred by periodic changes of the sea water level at high and low tide accelerates secondly the enlargement of the transition zone between the fresh and sea water at the site. The decrease of recharge amount by rainfall shortage creates thirdly the reverse flow at the interface of sea water and groundwater. The repeated groundwater extraction of 2790${\pm}$450 $m^3$d$^{-1}$ at the time of low tide, when the fresh water lens of the sire is under the contraction stare, makes additional drawdown of the ground water level and induces the upconing of salt water into the fresh water lens. The duration of spring discharge whose Cl concentration is less than 150 mg/1 at the low tide measured at the nearby springs was about two hours with discharge rate of 532 $m^3$d$^{-1}$ and after that Cl$^{-}$ concentration is increased up to more than 1900 mg/ι.eased up to more than 1900 mg/L.

  • The deep geological repository for high-level radioactive waste disposal is a multi barrier system comprised of engineered barriers and a natural barrier. The long-term integrity of the deep geological repository is affected by the coupled interactions between the individual barrier components. Erosion and piping phenomena in the compacted bentonite buffer due to buffer-rock interactions results in the removal of bentonite particles via groundwater flow and can negatively impact the integrity and performance of the buffer. Rapid groundwater inflow at the early stages of disposal can lead to piping in the bentonite buffer due to the buildup of pore water pressure. The physiochemical processes between the bentonite buffer and groundwater lead to bentonite swelling and gelation, resulting in bentonite erosion from the buffer surface. Hence, the evaluation of erosion and piping occurrence and its effects on the integrity of the bentonite buffer is crucial in determining the long-term integrity of the deep geological repository. Previous studies on bentonite erosion and piping failed to consider the complex coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical behavior of bentonite-groundwater interactions and lacked a comprehensive model that can consider the complex phenomena observed from the experimental tests. In this technical note, previous studies on the mechanisms, lab-scale experiments and numerical modeling of bentonite buffer erosion and piping are introduced, and the future expected challenges in the investigation of bentonite buffer erosion and piping are summarized.

  • To study the grout flow in jointed rock, various nurser characteristics of grout in a single joint plane and two-dperorbed. The joint plane is described as a channel nets properties of grout are considered. To deal with various prob generator and i oint network generator are used. A loss of head due to friction in laminal flow is adopted to between the grout and joint wall. The grout flow is stopped, setting time. To consider this phenomenon, the idea of maxim From the results of numerical simulation on the single jai etration of grout is confirmed. The basic principles for the ation and the selection of the grout are presented. Correlation ant and grouting pressure is defined by analyzing the effects grout flow. Finally, the grout flow around a tunnel is simulate ins grouting operation for jointed rock mass.

  • NHPP software reliability models for failure analysis can have, in the literature, exhibit either constant, monotonic increasing or monotonic decreasing failure occurrence rates per fault. In this paper, infinite failures NHPP models that repairing software failure point in time reflects the situation, was presented for comparing property. Commonly used in the field of software reliability based on Flexible Weibull extension distribution software reliability of infinite failures was presented for comparison problem. The result is that a relatively small shaping parameter was effectively. The parameters estimation using maximum likelihood estimation was conducted and model selection was performed using the mean square error and the coefficient of determination.. In this research, software developers to identify software failure property follows shape parameter, some extent be able to help is considered.

  • In Korea, quantitative growth rate of artificial reef construction is supposed to reach the peak point therefore, new approach is needed to the point of artificial reefs business. Functional reefs like shellfish reefs, recreational reefs, seaweed reefs as well as fish reefs are beneficial alternatives. This study conducted hydraulic testing to assess the stability of new types of artificial reefs (ARs) constructed to promote the growth of shellfish and seaweed. The results of this study revealed that some dimensionless design parameters affected the stability of new types of artificial reef under various wave and water depth conditions in the fixed bed condition. The findings also highlight the importance of hydraulic experiments in solving problems that have emerged in the design and construction of artificial reefs.

  • Circulation phenamena in open channel with abrupt variation in flow section are studied by solving numerically two dimensional Navier-Stokes equations integrated over depth. Galerkin type finite element method is used as numerical scheme. Numerical results by both implicit and explicit schemes tested in one-demensional rectangular channel agree closely with the known solution. The numerical experiments carded out in the open channel with a pool indicate the expected flow pattern and the center of the circulation coincides with the geometrical center, but the vectors of velocity appear father small, and it remains to be further investigated. Numerically simulated flow profiles along the channel with constrictions such as bridge piers and abutments are shown to be close to hydraulic experimental results. Thus further refined numerical technique is expected to be able to serve as a tool to evaluate the effect of bridge backwater.

  • In three dimensional wave field, a direct numerical simulation model, which is able to handle free-fall and slope-fall of a waterdrop due to overtopping, is proposed to evaluate the overtopping rate on the coastal structures like an absorbing revetment. A comparison between the numerical model and existing experimental results for overtopping rate was made to validate the proposed numerical model's accuracy, and showed fairly good agreement between them. It is confirmed in numerical and hydraulic(existing) model test that the overtopping quantity on a absorbing revetment becomes larger with an increase in Ursell number. Also, the overtopping rate estimated by 3-D numerical model is compared with it obtained by 2-D numerical model.

  • Purpose: The area such as historic sites where distributed in the hills surrounded by the mountains in the past, if heavy rains occur, soil that distributed in the substructure of a sedimentary layer's permeability decreases therefore, water do not smoothly drainage and increases surface structures' moisture content. Therefore, many phenomena occur such as the muddy ground. This experiment tried to figure out the cause of poor drainage, predicting poor drainage system when rainfall occur. So not only the base of cultural properties distributed in the historic site, but also have big influences on the upper structure. Method: We are going to propose an improvement plan through the various sites exploration and the field permeability test. In addition, analyze interrelationship to figure out the cause of the poor drainage through monitoring under ground water. Conclusion: As the result of the experiment, the cause of the poor drainage system formed on shallow depth of ground level inside of a land. We can see that soil of surface and fill deposit permeability was in poor condition. Therefore, it was in very inappropriate hydrogeological condition when surface water permeate into the underground when rainfall occurs.
